Light novels, what I understand anyway, are books filled with illustrations, but a visual novel is a genre of video games that plays like you're reading a novel.

Honestly I still don't have a firm grasp on what a light novel is.

Japanese is a complex language.

Light novels tend to have less difficult Japanese in it than actual Japanese novels do.

Light novels are Japan's evolution of pulp fiction magazines: cheap, short, mass produced serialized stories that are usually lacking in literary merit.

Light novels are, well, novels that mostly target teenagers and otaku types. They can be entertaining, but are no high literature. The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, for example.

My odd confession: I forgot my hearing aids today. I'm hard of hearing, I have a mild hearing loss that causes major problems (can't understand human speech unless I'm looking at the person who's talking, being on the phone is incredibly difficult, etc.). Now I'll need to concentrate super hard whenever a noise happens, so I can tell if it's directed at me or not, and what it means.

Sometimes I bounce on the balls of my feet like a night elf.
