I once played dozens of characters in an old group on Facebook but this looked like such a different ball game to me that I decided to only join Terminus and Renaissance for now so that I can get a feel for stuff. And coming up with an AU for Conan wasn't easy so I feel the pain.

I mean I got as far as "what if Kairi was the central protagonist instead of Sora" and then got stuck because I don't have a clue how to make that work.

I'm not gonna lie, that sounds REALLY cool.
I have a plan.
I just changed who had the superhero origin story for my AU and called it a day. I was considering changing more, but then I figured it would just involve changes that aren't relevant to the game at all.

I just took the premise of alternate-universe Nightwing's ending from Injustice Gods Among Us and then changed the circumstances to make him more sympathetic and less of the Ax-Crazy berserker he was in the game.
Just pretend I wrote something witty here, okay?

If you can't think of your own AU, you can take one that the creators themselves came up with. Marvel has hundreds, DC has a bunch too.
And if you wanna make your own, browse the A Us on fanfiction websites for inspiration. Personally, if I ever want to bring in a second character to Renaissance, I'm gonna be taking a character from my favourite Fusion Fic.
My AU is gonna be a pain to write since it has to have the Naruto universe make sense. Still, it's a challenge and I'm a masochist sometimes. XD
Half the work was done for me since I'm mostly basing it off of one of half a dozen alternate endings.
Do crossover universes count as A Us?

@Deadbeat: Oh hey, that sounds kinda like my sign up; a role reversal.
Just think about what circumstances would lead Kairi to take charge instead of Sora, and then follow the logical train of thought after, think about how this role change affects the other characters and the world as well. For example, if I recall, Kairi is one of the Princesses of Heart (aka important living macguffin) correct? What happens when she's put in a different location, and how does that change the priorities of the characters or the events that take place?

I'm a lazy fuck, so I just went with one of the canon A Us of League.
I made my AU for a Fanfic-idea, and when I never got around to writing the actual fanfic, I just recycled her for Renaissance.

I mean, I put in a snowboarder whose "powers" are just me trying to explain the more unrealistic aspects of the games she's from. Though admittedly, I am considering dropping her for something a little more conventional.

Oddly I'm not sure how good Conan will be at combat and I ended up making him mute so he talks by writing so honestly I'm scared for his survival to be real.

Personally, I'm pretty hyped about getting to bring in Cy-Kill.
The wacky schemes will never end.

I guess it wouldn't be the weirdest choice(s), alongside Hulk Hogan.
Though one was featured in a fighting game, and the other does fight things in their game, though that character would be pretty meta..I 'unno, I'll think on it.

I can't change up canon, I'm really bad at that.
I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

I got it easy, Tecmoei made an AU for me.

I just chose one important event, changed the outcome and figured out where it would most likely end up. I was lucky that there was one fairly close to the end of the series, so I didn't have to change much.

well it isn't the topic anymore but i might as well say what my options are in a slim chance somebody would glean some advice my way. Either Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet (or the one that was a fighter for Playstation All Stars Battle Royale), or - even more obscure - Atoi and the You from Tearaway Unfolded.
In unrelated news, Media Molecule is a grand company.
My AU took a long time to figure out a logical sequence of events that could lead to the setting, which is a blatant mashup of Animorphs and XCOM 2 with Marco acting as Bradford.
