[up]So the guy who most actively opposed the depot robbery ends up being the one blamed for it. And this causes the rest of the moderates to start getting tired of the radicals' shit. Thanks, AFP, that's an excellent idea.

And the rest of you, thanks for your ideas as well. You've helped me a lot there.

Edit - Now that's a bad pagetopper.

Ooh, I hadn't considered backlash from the other moderates. This could get fun. Which is terrible, of course.

Japan agrees to lease military aircraft to Philippines.

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.

Vocativ: IS hackers actually pretty shitty at their jobs.

A look at the short history of ISIS’s hacked “kill lists” show they are often arbitrarily put together. Using the guise of the Cyber Caliphate, noted hacktivist-turned-ISIS fighter Junaid Hussain shared multiple kill lists of Americans in the first half of 2015. Shortly before his death by a drone strike in August, Hussain released the names of almost 1,500 members of the military and government employees, one of the largest such dumps to date, proclaiming “O Crusaders … we are in your emails and social media accounts, we are extracting confident data.” But Flashpoint’s analysis concluded that nothing Hussain had released was classified and that no military servers had been compromised.

Despite presenting himself as a hacker stealthily infiltrating American networks, Hussain actually had acquired at least one of his lists through an unaffiliated hacker from Kosovo named Ardit Ferizi, the FBI says. The exchange was captured entirely on a public Twitter conversation, and Ferizi was later arrested in Malaysia.

Such opsec. Much wow.

After seeing that dismal field performance why should we be surprised?

So they're about as good at opsec as /pol/ users.

Well, at least there's another field in which they overlap.

Reminds me when the Daeshbags managed to get into Central Command's Twitter feed and started posting various pro-Daesh stuff. Much was made of this successfull infiltration into a US military computer network, and Central Command replied by pointing out that no such infiltration had happened. Daesh had gotten into Central Command's Twitter account, that thing used mainly to tell everyone when there are 5K runs scheduled or severe weather warnings.

One password change later and the gates were closed again.

The more I learn about Daesh, the more I tend to think that they are only good at fighting unarmed civilians and armies that might as well be unarmed civilians in terms of their fighting ability.

There's a reason you guys are using them as target practice and for testing weapons. They're not worth any serious effort.

No, the problem with the Daesh is gonna be the multi generational nation building that comes after them.

Oh really when?

[up][up] No France? Despite the stereotype that all they do is run away, France is the second largest military power in Europe next to the UK. Discounting Russia, of course.

Reminds me of the Navajo code-talkers. They didn't just speak Navajo over the radio, they had code-words for everything. The Japanese once captured a Navajo soldier who wasn't a code-talker, and while he could identify it as the Navajo language, the messages made no sense to him.

Yes, but they're French.

Despite the small size of their forces, they did get very good at creating ad-hoc forces when needed.

Funny thing about the French is, in Russia they are commonly stereotyped as refined, yet upstanding soldiers. You can blame Napoleon's good reputation and our nobility's general obsession with everything French.

I remember reading Dostoevsky novels and scholarly articles on them. I did find the Russians' love for French rather odd.

Fry - Russians tend to be respectful (though not usually sympathetic) towards the people who fight them as a general rule, but Napoleon is also viewed as being particularly noble on top of being particularly badass. And besides, who hasn't burnt down Russian cities? Hell, we do it ourselves every so often.
