I'm not so sure about that, Tuef. Being charged with a crime (two, in this case: desertion and misbehavior before the enemy [Art 99]) isn't the same as being convicted of it. There's still plenty of time to softball the prosecution or give him the proverbial slap on the wrist if it's considered expedient by the political whores officers running the trial.

Pretty much. Even being accused of it is pretty damning. Getting even light punishment for it is even worse. Even if they give him a slap on the wrist once his ass gets back to the real world he is pretty fucked. He will be a pariah in nearly all veteran circles and many employers won't touch him with a 50 foot pole because of his reputation. It is pretty much a given his encounters with veterans and active service members will not go well.

I'm just reflecting on a former friend who became very vitriolic and jingoistic not long before we parted ways, who used to post memes about "free Bowe Bergdahl" on a regular basis.

I wonder if she posts memes celebrating that he's back home in the U Sof A now.

She was a very supportive mentor when we were stationed together in Korea about four years back.

Either she got real ugly after that, or she finally showed her true colors and I decided that I didn't need that kind of toxicity in my life.

Dammit I really hope they don't destroy the old sets. They go after enough historical treasures. I wouldn't say this measures up as high as the budda statues the taliban destroyed, but I still don't want to see it go.

The sets are going to be covered by dunes in time though - at least part of it is already buried in sand...

I am amused by the idea of ISIS taking the time to excavate a 70s movie set in the desert just so they could destroy it out of spite.

I find even funnier the thought of the US being driven into heavier intervention in the Middle East not from the execution of its captured citizens, but the threat of destruction upon one of its most beloved modern cultural icons.

Expect the enlistment rates of Star Wars fans to jump into light-speed.

@AFP- Good portions of it are above ground. It's not consumed by the desert just yet. And likely won't ever be. It's a hell of tourist attraction.
