The fact that you can't even name him makes me think he wouldn't be a good picture.

Blue Haired Lawyer IS his name. :P

I know all about that character, but it could be taken as just a well-dressed thug.

And an outsider to the series would know that's the defense podium because...

I mean, it could easily be the bench or something else.

Good point. There's also the Defense Attorney nadge but that's bately noticeable. But I think it's much clearer than the current Von Karma pic on both the Amorral and the Attorney qualifications. And technically Yew really is a well dressed thug just one with a law degree.

She doesn't even have that. Does Yew even count at all?

The bar association had to pass her if she was able to get into court at all let alone for the years the Yagaratsu was operating, so even if being a lawyer wasn't her main priority she probably was still a real lawyer.

But as for the picture itself is at as clear as we're going to get?

My issue with it is a combination of what I mentioned earlier, and the fact that it's a massive spoiler.

But is it a better example than Lionel Hutz? I could find a pic of him engaging in morally questionable methods (I swear there was a Simpsons scene where he was burning documents or something) if we haven't ruled out the idea of using him for a page image. o.o

If you can find such a pic. And alright Yew withdrawn on account of spoilers.

Oh god...don't do an image search for ANY Simpsons character with safe search off.

Well...

Here is Lionel drinking booze on the job, though granted it may not be quite the unethical we are looking for.

and

Here is Lionel seeming indifferent to his client being in a burning cage. In context it is different, but I would like to think it is at least somewhat evil-looking...

In both pictures there's a guy in a suit. I don't know who he is. I see no signs he's an attorney. I know the main Simpsons characters, but I admit that most of the minors escape me. I never watched enough to learn them.

The picture of Yew with a gun just makes me think some thug broke in.

If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.

The current one is not specified to be an attorney either. But at least something of a suited-up guy in his office, with what appear to be clients, and drinking on the job, would be a step in the right direction. (Maybe it could have a caption along the lines of: Lionel Hutz needs a freaking drink!)

I think there's some mutual Fan Myopia at work here. Neither of them really scream 'lawyer'. The Ace Attorney ones are better, because they appear to take place in a courtroom, but they still don't automatically look like lawyers.

For me, the best image so far is the one with von Karma talking, and the worst is the second Lionel Hutz image.

Lets face it, all suggestions so far have needed a fair degree of Fan Myopia, just strike the picture and have trope picture-less. A picture that requires some knowledge of any series is worse than no picture at all.

If Kristoph Gavin wasn't already the trope picture for Four Eyes, Zero Soul, I'd imediately suggest him here, since the first thing I thought when I first saw a pic of him (BEFORE ever playing the series, you mind) was "Wow... That's ONE picturebook evil lawyer!"

He has the suit, the soulless smile, the amorality (in spades) and the manner of speech one usually exspects from this character type.

EDIT:

Oh, I just saw, his pic was removed from that page... SPLENDID! Why not take him here?

Anybody please look at this and tell me with a straight face that he doesn't look like the kind of lawyer who'd do anything for fame and money, even if you don't know the series.

[up]If you don't know the game, he doesn't look particularly like a lawyer. He might as well be a Corrupt Corporate Executive.

You could say that about ANY lawyer, you know. There isn't much of a possibilty to distinctly identify a lawyer as such, except maybe the suit, unless you're in Japan, where they wear badges (and even then you can still confuse a japanese lawyer with a japanese Parlamentarian, who usually also wears a badge).

Let's face it: In terms of looks, a lawyer is just a human with a suit. And an Amoral Attorney is an evil human with a suit. There isn't much of a possibility to unambigiously identify them.

Kristoph Gavin is a pretty freaking big spoiler. I'm not quite sure It Was His Sled can be invoked here either.

Von Karma yelling at the Judge is probably the best example we'll get. On the other hand if anyone knows of any fan art of Von Karma bullying the judge like that, that'd be better as it'd be clearer and not limited to low quality sprites.

Dunno, but I knew Kristoph was evil from the first moment I saw him... The eyes and all...

The only thing that surprised me was that Polly nailed him down so quickly, I expected him to be the culprit 1-2 cases later...

Maybe that's just me. I guess I just don't trust guys who look like a cross between Maximillion Pegasus and... well... A lawyer.

Anyway, yeah, I guess we'd need fanart or something that clearly shows the lawyer in question doing something illegal.

...Hey, there doesn't happen to be any comic book in which a lawyer attempts to pull a Magnificent Chewbaka Defense, is there?

"an Amoral Attorney is an evil human with a suit. There isn't much of a possibility to unambigiously identify them."

Well, since we've reached a consensus on all images needing previous knowledge of the media, and acceptance that any image is going to be Just A Face And A Caption, it's time to strike the page image. This is a trope that does not require one. An image for an image's sake adds nothing.

I have an idea on this one, but it'll have to wait 'till I'm at home this afternoon to give it a try. Posting a message now just to make sure the thread's still up and running then - I'll edit with more details later. smile
