Embric Of Wulfhammers Castle does have at least one sequence with combat in it. It leads to one of the more interesting endings.
... Little late to the party on that one. But i have been playing it again as i managed to find a bunch of new flags. And then i stopped playing when they ran out. Should work on that. Quite an interesting story that's being told all in all.
Think i'll start reading Pieta now too, if only because the artsyle isn't pure moeblob. Not that there's anything wrong with moeblobs. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

Huh...I guess I better download it, then. I tweaked the trope page; if anyone wants to take a look and see if I got everything right, that'd be appreciated...I'm not sure if I used Freak Out and The Scapegoat in the right context.

That works.
Anyone else ever read Aido? Courtesy link: http://www.manganews.net/seriesinfo.php?id=8256
I loved it - and wished it was longer. For some reason, it's not on The Other Wiki Also, for those that have read it as well, some help with its page would be lovely. I'm not quite sure how to write the introduction...
Is this the appropriate thread to talk about Strawberry Panic? I've almost finished watching the series, and absolutely love it. Sure, I have seen many of the situations and scenarios before in other drama/romance stories I've read and seen similar characters in other series, but there's just so much weight behind them that it brings tears to my eyes, something that most other series cannot seem to do. It's just so simple and identifiable, which becomes it's perfect charm that just makes everything the girls feel and say shoot straight for your heart. I'm sure that when I finish the ending of the anime I will delve deeper into this series. If it stops there I will scour the internet for more. It's just so good, and gives me this very very happy, and sad, and heartwarming feeling inside of me.
Troper PageWow, I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, ain't I. >.>
Hum, so I was introduced to the world of Yuri about two years ago through Ano Kiss, a series that I started to follow totally by coincidence and that I like, buuut… even without knowing much about the genre I can guess that it's rather on the mild and timid side of the GL spectrum (which is perfectly fine, of course). So recently I've started to look for other stuff.
Three series I've seen mentioned often in the comedy variant are Sasameki Koto, Aoi Hana and Strawberry Shake Sweet… which one would you recommend first?
(I plan to get into more realistic stuff too, but later)

I wouldn't necessarily call Sasameki Koto and Aoi Hana comedic though. ^^;
It's a real shame that while anime with heavy yuri subtext are pretty common and popular these days (Madoka, GochiUsa, YuYuYu et. al.), there aren't many actual yuri shows, and some of the more recent ones like Sakura Trick haven't done so well (although then again Sakura Trick was pretty bad). Yuru Yuri is quite popular but I hesitate to group it with pure yuri series because there aren't any actual romantic relationships in the show and the yuri is Played for Laughs.
That we'll never get another Sono Hanabira OVA is a damn crime.

Sex-negative outrage culture and the Illuminati are realUh, really…? ^^" I kind of had that feeling, reading the descriptions… oh well.
Sono Hanabira… you mean the eroge series? Did they really adapt that of all things?
…and holy crap, there are playthroughs of the games on Youtube.
As for Yuri animes, you forgot Cross An… wait, no, forget it. >.>

Yeah, there's an OVA of Sono Hanabira based on the third title, Kobito no Anata Tsunagi. It's super NSFW but it's also ridiculously cute and fluffy and generally diabetes-inducing. Here's a (SFW) little video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkKmGZo4Z9s
Also recently there was a Sono Hanabira VN released on Steam, although it's non-H. There is a pornographic (mostly, there's no onscreen sex like in most Sono Hanabira games but there's nude girls entangled together and stuff) VN titled Kindred Spirits on the Roof being released uncensored on Steam soon.
Cross Ange
Next you'll recommend me Hibike Euphonium, won't you?

Sex-negative outrage culture and the Illuminati are realYeah, Aoi Hana really isn't a comedy. It's pretty melodramatic.
Don't know how many people are willing to read an academic dissertation on this stuff, but this one is really informative and quite readable. Some interesting data about the market for yuri and readership demographics.

Cool I didn't know we had a Yuri thread here.
Bumping it gave me some good ideas of new things to read so thanks
x6 Of the three, I've only read Sasameki Koto, which I thought was a very solid story.
Anyone here read Don't Become an Otaku Shinozaki-san!?
It's a very amusing read in how absolutely blatantly that Akina is lusting after Kaede. And the way it's going seems like its going for a non-subtext ending as well.

"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobThe only one I've read all the way through is Strawberry Shake Sweet, which I remember being decent
Eh, it wasn't really on the level of the games. Sono Hana has problems with side material in general, from what I've seen
's a fun read, but I wish it had more plot motion
i'm going to give a shout out to Gunjo as a pretty good example of lesbian romance. i don't generally read them but it's pretty good even as just a drama/character piece. do note that it has a (relatively speaking) more realistic take on the concept, unsurprisingly since i believe it was published in a josei magazine.

Also, it was actually written by a lesbian.
I can't help but laugh at the question at the end of that interview, though. Awkward.

Oh my. I already like that woman. Her answers are laconic to say the least, but interesting. She sounds kind of detached, regarding the industry and stuff.
No, but I can recommend you Valkyrie Drive! (just kidding, I haven't watched it)
Regarding SHK, I only played the first game last year, but it was so terrible I had to force myself to finish it. >.> I suppose it improves beyond Porn Without Plot in later installments… because there has to be a reason it's so popular.
…Back to Ano Kiss, while I said it was "mild and timid", it sometimes has some weird fetish-y stuff out of nowhere… I have no point of comparison, but is that common in Shoujo-ai?

If you actually disliked it, the series probably isn't for you. The later games are better about having actual drama, but the basic tone doesn't change all that much
Also, the Mai x Reo parts are the best
Not terribly? That's minor enough deviance that I didn't really notice when I was reading it, though
It's not so much the tone that I disliked than the lack of… substance? It was basically "meeting > love at first sight > sex > more sex > another helping of sex > end". There were a few funny scenes here and there, but not much to actually flesh out the girls' relationship.
I see. Well, not that I mind anyway. >.>
Yeah, Yuuna and Nanami have a pretty uncomplicated relationship. Sara and Kaede aren't much better in that regard, but the other couples get significantly more focus on how things work for them
When I started the first Sono Hanabira I got a bit confused and confused Yuna for another red-haired girl in a (less sexual) romanticish relationship.
Also I'm pretty sure that certain elements really pissed some people off, if you catch my drift.
Sex-negative outrage culture and the Illuminati are realYeah, you're in… an awkward state-of-mind when you read a certain scene. =[

I read Girl Friends, and I've been reading Citrus. I kinda want to go out and buy the whole series so I can have them whenever, but I'm still in that zone of "is this weird to have on my bookshelf when people come over?" so I've been holding off.
I need more. I need to fuel my lesbian romance-based power. This genre is too good.
I got both collected volumes of Girlfriends for my birthday from a friend a month ago. I really like having them as a physical copy's, although admittedly I do keep them in the second layer of my bookshelf.

Pieta is wonderful. Wish it was still in print...
