If it's men, probably the Spear Counterpart. If it's female, probably the Distaff. Or perhaps which ever side of the archetypes they fit into. Once we've hammered down whatever the new trope is, we'll figure it out.
I think that's going to be far more of a case by case. The answer is, whichever definition fits them best.

Ah, there's one hitch: in between the time this TRS was made and now, a new trope called Cock Fight has been launched. It seems to emphasize aggressive male fighting over simply the Love Triangle itself, and professes to be the "usual Spear Counterpart to Betty and Veronica". I think it's a different trope, but it needs adjusting so it doesn't overlap too much.

Two guys having a physical fight (or open hostility) over a girl is not the spear counterpart to Betty and Veronica. Remove that line form the new trope description, please.

Yeah Betty and Veronica is both a plot and character trope, Cock Fight is just an event trope.
