Disney's Discworld Confirmed

So basically it'll be like the 2nd Discworld game, a mishmash of the plots from the books, based on what's been said? Works, I guess.

Thinking about it it could be The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents or one of the Tiffany Aching books. Hmm, this is definitely a wait a see thing.

PS: I could see it working if it was done along the lines of Emperor's New Groove as someone mentioned on the first page.

Will this go better than The Black Cauldron? It's not like the first time Disney adapted a fantasy novel into a movie.

... Huh. This could be one of the most amazing things in imminent history. Mort has some good potential for not only humor, but also badass action and dreamlike beauty, from what I faintly remember.

It could also be really, really dumb.

There's so many factors involved that they could mess up, it's not even funny.

They're not going to "drop the Death angle". Just look at Facilier and his friends in Princess and the Frog. Discworld will hardly be cut down the same amount that Greek Mythology and The Hunchback of Notre Dame was (and the Disneyfied Hunchback was still pretty dark IIRC).

I never really read Discworld, but I liked the recent TV films, especially Hogfather, so I think this could work.

The Clements and Musker films I saw myself have always impressed, so I have no worries about it sucking.

My biggest worry is that they'll mess up Mort himself. The fact that they picked this particular novel makes me worry that their reasoning was the idea that you can only make teenagers watch your movie by making the protagonist an angsty bumbling idiot who actually still looks pretty handsome but nobody notices it because he's such an informed dork.

... Goddamn you, Shrek series!

I think he was referring to Artie.

But Mort is kind of an angsty bumbling idiot. Well, kinda. Not really angsty, but isn't exactly Mr. Self-Confidence. The biggest problem I see is that they forget that Mort is basically a Decoy Protagonist. Or is it just me, because I always found him kinda bland as a character. He has almost no defining characteristics and is only there because the spot of Death's apprentice needed to filled by someone.

Uhhh... what Disney heroes have been angsty?

I have 100% confidence that this will be awesome. It seems impossible for Clements and Musker to make a bad film. After all, they STARTED the Disney Renaissance. They also worked on animating The Black Cauldron together, and I really do believe that it could have been a good movie were it not for Executive Meddling.

Anyone think that Terry himself might have a cameo in it, barring complications with his Alzheimers?

Okay God, Listen up. You know I hate you, and I'm pretty sure you hate me even more. But if you make this happen without Disney screwing it up I will build several churches in your honor.

Hoping they don't mess it up in adaptation, this is great news. Discworld is bst suited for an animated adaptation, and getting some serious talent on it is great.

OK, so the more I read about New Death, the more I'm convinced that he NEEDS to be the villain in this movie.

^^ Tell your friend that she is officially my biggest hero. Did she introduce the series to Clements and Musker or something?

^ New Death as a villain would be drool-worthy.

I was hoping for a voice-over cameo from Pratchett. Either as a minor background character that looks suspiciously familiar, or as the narrator. That would be niiiice.

This is going to be AMAZING. And considering my general opinion of Disney, that's something I didn't think I'd say.
