This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Alright. Privileges restored. Try to keep an even keel while editing the wiki.

Same thing here (though until now I had actually miscalculated the time and thought the suspension period was supposed to end tomorrow instead of today).

Cool. We are trying real hard to get Example Indentation done correctly. Having someone undo it after we put in the fixes is pretty frustrating. Suspension lifted.

You need more work in the Help with English thread. One correction is insufficient.

Hold up a sec. Your edit history reveals that you are making the common mistake of treating the wiki articles like places to hold a conversation. They are not. If you see an error with an example, fix it. But you have as yet added nothing of value to the wiki. Do you have anything to add? Please read How To Write An Example and explain to me what it says. Briefly.

Hello,

I just had my edit privileges revoked for un-hiding some tropes in the Wreck It Ralph characters page (specifically, several tropes in the section of the page about the Sugar Rush racers that seemed valid to me, but that someone else hid with percent signs). I would like to be informed why I was banned — should I have posted something in the discussion thread before taking the percent signs off, or just left them there? Thanks.

Snowsky, what you did was restore what we call Zero Context Examples. There was even a comment to that effect in the article (or should be). We have a rule that all examples must contain at least a basic explanation of why they apply.

If you have information to explain the use of the trope, please add it. Otherwise you should leave it commented out so someone else can do it.

While I certainly agree that some, or even most, of my edits have strayed into forum-territory (and although it wasn't mentioned, upon reviewing my past edits, I need to use the Preview feature more often), I have to say that I think your implication that I don't have anything "of value" to say a little sterner than necessary. And your assertion that "every single one" of my edits has been Natter felt a bit personal. Specifically, my edits on Pivotal Wake-up, Hero, Sequel, and Super Weight all contribute something new. Admittedly, they could be written better and incorporated into the existing framework of the article more. I was only following the example I've seen on many other pages where (what I didn't before, but have now come to recognize as) Natter flows rampant.

At any rate, I have read the How to Write An Example page, and it seems difficult to "briefly" summarize approximately 35 separate points. (If the writers of those guidelines felt they were distinct enough to merit their own bullet points, who am I to gainsay them?) The general thrust seems to be "read this article before writing examples." I don't think there's a good way to address all of the points on the page in fewer than 30 sentences. However, the relevant point seems to be "Repair Dont Respond." Is that what you were looking for?

@sehkzychic: Perhaps. A concern we have with a lot of people is that they come on the wiki, see Conversation In The Main Page, and think that's what we're about. We want to make it clear that it's not the case. Also, How To Write An Example needs to be comprehensive because of the number of Rules Lawyers we have running around.

You adequately summarized it, so I'll restore your editing privileges.

@Snowsky: Yep, I'll lift the suspension.

I'm going to be completely honest. I was banned for making several minor troll edits to a moe page. I did this because I thought it would be harmless fun and because I was bored. Now that I see the gravity of the situation I repent. I would like editing privileges back. You have my word that any edits I make in the future will be constructive. Either way I respect your decision.

The best way to end an edit war is not to continue it with the edit reason:

War Waaarrr!!! WAAAAAARRRRRR!!!!!! Seriously, this Edit War, can you please, for all that is holy, KNOCK. IT. OFF.

What's a better way to handle an edit war, particularly one where there's already been an official ruling on the correctness of a particular version? (We get on the same page here and I see no reason not to restore your editing. smile)

Okay. With time having passed since I made that comment it was rude of me to say that, and I was wrong. When I read about what was happening I felt that it was disrespectful to not only go against what everyone else was saying but Fast Eddie as well. But in trying to put that across I myself was disrespectful, and I should know better. There is no excuse for me to lose control like that so I'm sorry, I apologize. I still feel that I can still contribute and be a productive part of the site, and will do whatever I need to so I can prove that.

Edit: But I suppose self recrimination is not what you're after. You want me to acknowledge what I did what and what I should have done to be right? What I shouldn't have done is mouth off in the edit reason. No question. I am nothing short of ashamed for acting that way. What I should have done is to try and discuss it rationally, reasonably, or allowed someone else to do so. Maybe the staff particularly if someone is being stubborn. I only want to help and will continue to try and help, and if that means staying out of trying to resolve problems then whatever it takes.
