This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

OK, what exactly did I get suspended for? EDIT: In fact, wouldn’t it be wiser to PM people a warning or a specification of the reasons for the upcoming ban/suspension, like they do on pretty much any forum or Wiki?

(As for the ‘Murderers are Rapists’ thing: that’s just the way I always saw it, and I was surprised it wasn’t there. No, I am not a rapist/murderer, just jarringly good at cold, logical thinking sometimes.)

We're telling you now. That's what the suspension is for. You can have a look at your own edit history, thos that haven't been reverted, and ask yourself "Is this edit about the trope used in fiction, or is it about some element of real life?" If it is about real life, it is most likely an unneeded digression or quibble.

I don’t know about you, but I find the Real Life section of pages the most fascinating. Also, as I live in Israel, my exposure to Anglophone media, though very high*, is nothing compared to that of many, many Tropers here, and writing about Israeli works or whatnot often gets reverted if there’s no page to link to (for instance, before I wrote the article about Summer Celebration, my example from that book to Even Evil Has Standards was taken off because it didn’t have an article to accompany), and there are hardly any Israelis writing articles about Israeli fiction. Once I’m unsuspended, I’ll get to writing an article about another book of Alterman’s that barely any Israelis know of (it exists though, it’s called The Final Mask/המסכה האחרונה, in case you want to Google it). Then I guess I should finally write my own profile... EDIT: Where can I find the list of my own edits?

Writing about Israeli fiction is fine. That's what we're here for. (Also, whoever zapped your examples for not having article links was wrong. Bring that to our attention if it happens again.) However, what we're telling you is that we don't need or want these digressions into politics, history, and religion that clutter your edits. Those are not what the wiki is for.
We're about storytelling, and Tropes are storytelling devices first and foremost. Where they impinge upon Real Life, the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement takes precedence.

I just got the notice...but I tend to pick up after others for bad grammar, the anime cast announcements are reliable, and when I delete an entry besides natter it's usually my own because I've realized I've been an idiot and it wasn't an example. If it was because I was making frequent updates to Shangri La, I'd recently finished that anime and that's a rather overlooked show (much like Oh Edo Rocket).
So if I made yet another really stupid mistake on my part, I'm sorry.

It's that you re-added Pettanko to LightNovel.Shangri La almost immediately after I pulled it to discussion for not being a trope. Since there was no edit reason, there was no way to tell if this was deliberately ignoring the previous edit reason and discussion or an honest mistake.

It was indeed a mistake on my part (I didn't even know it was pulled). In hindsight I remembered there were subsections for that, so it wasn't needed anyway. Sorry bout that.

@An Cat Dubh: We brought you in here to talk because we noticed a pattern of editing behavior. When we see someone editing a lot of religion tropes and sex-related tropes with what looks like a Real Life agenda, we get very suspicious. In our experience people who do this don't reform, because they don't understand the need to. You can prove us wrong, of course, and I'll lift your suspension so you can do so. Just please try to keep your editing about fiction, not Real Life.

I already discussed this Fast Eddie, but I'll post my request here as well.
This was Eddie's request in the Gay Rights in America thread
OTC bans are in store for people who lapse back into potshotting each other over religion. Whether or not religion is a factor can be declared as moot. There is no need to debate it here.
As I've always done, I honored that request. The post that got me this wonderful ban was because I was decrying a stated Christian group that actually kidnapped someone's kids. There was no potshotting. The post wasn't even addressed to anybody on the thread.
I get that Mods are busy, and it's easy to see a highlighted word in a post and automatically assume the worst. But if you're going to say things like "Wow that was rude" or accuse someone of being a troll, or refer to somebody responding to them as "taking the troll bait" then I don't think it's asking a lot that you actually read back a page or two before making such accusations.

I don't see how this is not a religious potshot. You identified the group as Christian. That's a religion. The responses immediately started dealing with the religious aspects. Which is exactly what we don't want.

Okay, I see how you came to that conclusion. But please listen to me, I did not identify the group as Christian. The people my post referred to specifically stated that their justification for taking a person's child was their belief that they were doing God's will. I was responding to that, and to that only.
Yes, other tropers read that, and like you, assumed I was starting a religious derail. The very post that got me banned was me saying "No guys, actually we're not going down that road because I've expended enough energy on that topic." Further, as a Christian myself, I wouldn't be the pot-shotting other Christians for the lulz. I absolutely do take shots at people who steal other people's children in the name of religion, regardless of what religion it is. You're a parent Eddie; you understand this.
Several Mods were actively participating in that thread and they could readily tell you if my posts were starting another shouting match over religion. I have no reason to lie to you. You said you didn't want another derail over religious shouting matches and I've honored that request.
This is a Gay Rights and America thread, Eddie; religion will crop up from time to time entirely independent of us. Just because we comment on some religious aspect doesn't automatically mean we're ignoring your requests, or derailing the topic.
So, I'm asking, please, if this...ban...can be lifted, since I am and have been a cooperative member of these fora.

Sounds like you are saying religion will continue to be an issue in that thread and I should just get used to it. Not happening. Not interested in whether or not the discussion is pro or anti religion as long as religion isn't in the discussion. All you have to agree to here is to leave religion out of it.

@Mega: It's not a matter of factual accuracy, it's that you and another troper got into an argument by constantly changing each others' edits. The proper course of action when there is a disagreement of this nature is to use the various methods of discussion that are available, such as the article's Discussion page, private messages, the forums, or Ask The Tropers, to resolve the issue.
It's important, of course, that we be accurate, but not at the expense of civility. Got it?
