This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Hello, so I was banned about 2 months ago (I think) and was wondering what I need to do to be unbanned. Thank you
So... why are my editing privileges suspended?
~Sgt Slick: You share metadata with the last metadata of a persistent ban evader.
~Jkrfan7: Please explain what you did on The Almighty Johnsons.
~acrobox: I think ~shimaspawn would have to judge; I don't follow YKTTW all that closely.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, not ban evading as Highcrate would have helped your case.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSorry about that. If you lift the suspension, I promise it won't happen again.
...I'm not sure that answers the accusation that you're somehow linked to a known ban evader.
"Yup. That tasted purple."What makes you think that?
The fact that you have the same IP address as a banned troper.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Hey, anybody could share the same IP address.
I notice you aren't denying it. Seriously, go away. I'm not sure how we could make it any clearer that you're unwelcome.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Can I please have my editing privilege back? I will not start edit wars, I will look over my edits for misspellings, and I will discuss things with the editors. It has been such a long time since I have been able to edit. I think I have done my time.
jjj~bobg: I'm willing to give you another chance but there won't be any mercy for a repeat.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hello, I love to edit things just for fun, and for more info, but for some reason, why am I suspended? I made some edits, but some of them were accidental mistakes. Can I still be able to edit again? Thanks!
70Jack90: Our editing policies say that you should not use potholes to change the name of a trope in an example list. Don't change Take That, Scrappy! to "Take That, Angel!", or "Everybody Laughs" Ending to "Everypony Laughs Ending".

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Okay. I thought there were some examples that were modified to fit the material.
There have been in the past, but we're cracking down on it now.
"Yup. That tasted purple."@ shima
anything?
@ Fighteer also, since you were the one who used those words

Looks like I was suspended over something stupid... - All Main pages I created, I also immediately sought to index them as soon as I could (and sometimes, even before creating the page). - All others, they can be easily accessed through their main page.
I would like to request another chance, and for the ban to be lifted. I'm willing to go through all the subsidiary pages I've created (Awesome, Funny, Heartwarming, YMMV, etcetera) and put them in their corresponding lists. Lots of work, sure, but if it gets me back into the editing game...
It probably got overlooked (question asked after mine were answered) so here it goes again:
"Hye, it's been quite a few months since I got my ban, and frankly, I don't even remeber the exact thing it was about... Anyway, can you explain (note, for now, I'm not asking to have it revoked) the reason for it? Thanks in advance."
Well?
~Jaro7788: You have a habit of adding sociopolitical commentary to articles. Thing is, it is at best analysis and at worst useless, seeing as we are a website about tropes. You also need to be more careful with Example Indentation - lone subbullets are not OK.
~Milarqui: Why are you omitting the indexing of subpages? One should not have to message you constantly over them.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIn that case, for these and all the sins of my past life I am truly sorry. Please rescind my ban so that I can continue to contribute valuable stuff to the site. Deal?
Sometime last October, I think, I got an editing suspension notice. I was very busy at that time, so I don't believe I followed up, reasoning that it was one less thing on my plate. Life has calmed down since then, and I've been adding pages to my to do list as I start poking through the wiki again and coming across tropes to add, typos to fix, and bad habits that are contrary to administrivia like Linking To An Article Within The Article, while I procrastinated about coming to the forum. Now I have over 70 to-dos, and that's not counting the cleanup I should do on the tropes I've launched and the YKTTW I should finish up and launch.
All that said, I don't recall knowing what the issue was. I think last summer there was more than once that I made the mistake of using edits as conversations, or made the same edit on an issue more than once that different tropers independently edited in a contrary way and that can get read as edit warring- at least, I worried so (and the two that I recall I either diverted to the discussion page or simply stopped), and perhaps someone else did too, leading to the suspension. I can avoid making any response or repeat edits, and instead always start a discussion about the issue on the discussion page in the future. Some guidance on the appropriate amount of time to wait after making a discussion post would be useful, though. Is a week a good rule of thumb?

I rarely visit the forums to avoid the cynicism ooze.~Westrim: You seem to have missed Madrugada's reply to you, here.
~Jaro7788: Deal, as long as what you want to contribute has something to do with what we're about. Kapisch? I'll lift your suspension.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"70Jack90: I'll release your suspension.

Hello
Would anyone like to tell me how I can 'demonstrate better understanding of what tropes are.' I've thrown out some suggestions but no one seems to be responding. I really just want to go back in and finish the Elite Four and guide some other YKTTW
