Alright, I have 10 Power Stars at the moment. This is ridiculously fun. ^_^ I love the music, too. Galaxies I've unlocked so far: Sky Station, Yoshi Star, Spin-Dig, Flip-Swap, Rightside-Down, and Fluffy Bluff. And Bowser Jr's Fiery Flotilla, but I haven't gone there yet.

Pay Day sure seems so far away...

At any rate, how does it compared to its predecessor? Better? Worse? About the same?

This game wasn't really on my radar, especially considering that I'm just about out of money (thank god I'm starting work again this week). I knew I'd get it eventually, because I really enjoyed the first Galaxy and Nintendo seemed intent on at least doing as well.

And then I saw everyone around the internet (even Gamespot and IGN) explode and go "holy crap, they've surpassed the original Galaxy!" I literally Jaw Dropped when I saw their perfect 10 scores. When was the last time they awarded that to a Nintendo game, especially the one that seems to be considered the most "unnecessary" Nintendo game in a while?

Sooo I said "FUCK FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY I'M GETTING MARIO" and got it, played it with my sister up to the first Bowser fight. So far, it has indeed been a blast - I love the absolutely seamless 2D-to-3D-and-back transitions, I love the music, I love the ingenious platforming and level design, I love Yoshi, I love the Rock shroom, I love the new Bowser fights holy crap that battle was epic. I think I like the original Galaxy's Bowser battle theme better, but 2's battle mechanics are more original and awesome. About the only complaint I have is that the second player's new ability to actually kill enemies threw me off a lot.

Does it feel to anyone else as if it's not really a sequel, but more of a remake of the original Galaxy? It sort of seems like it's disregarding the original game in terms of story, and Nintendo seems to be stuffing this one with all the ideas and designs they couldn't fit into the original.

I heard Miyamoto wasn't satisfied with the result of SMG 1. Considering how most of his games can reasonably be considered remakes, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the approach they specifically had in mind for this one.

I've been anticipating this for a while, I don't really care about review scores since every media outlet will give perfect 10s to just about anything half-decent. I do hope it isn't more of the same though, Galaxy was great but not everything it could have been.

I heard there was more variety, new ideas, and more difficult levels too.

I'll see when I play though.

The existence of that trope shows that people are accustomed to their favorite games getting a free ride for whatever reason. Even if 100 doesn't mean perfect, giving a game a month a perfect score is still overrating them.

^^^^

Yeah, from what I've seen on You Tube, it seems to be far more like a remake than a sequel, as there are almost no references to the first game.

Based on what I've heard, my current guess is this:

wild mass guessGalaxy 2 is an alternate timeline, where Mario ended up after Galaxy's Gainax Ending; Luigi ended up back at the beginning of the first game.

If our page on the first game is correct, the plot retcons itself out of existence at the end (see the Stable Time Loop bit on the page), which would explain that, I guess.

I know someone who beat this game. Its really hard if you don't use a guide Bugaboom returns and is much harder, because you have to use the new cloud mushroom and you can only have three at a time. but luckily you can get more

Is it the legitimately challenging (i.e. challenging, yet fair) type of "hard", or the ridiculously bullshite sort of hard?

It is absolutely the fair type of Nintendo Hard. Lives, like the first game, are given to you like candy so there is small chance of you ever running out, and the levels are challenging yet doable with perseverance and determination.

...I did, for the first time (I got all the way through New Super Mario Bros Wii without dying enough for the Super Guide), manage to do poorly enough to call up the Cosmic Guide on a late-game star (it involves rolling Rock Mario through a narrow course with no guardrails except two near the end that you have to pinball off of). Still, I knew it was my own lack of skill and not the game itself sucking. The game is definitely fair.

No fake difficulty. Just hard levels that if you fail, you can only have yourself to blame. Then just try over and eventually you'll beat it.

Regarding the difficulty, it's hard— but fair. Figuring out what to do is always pretty simple, for the most part. The difficulty is getting it done.

And it's interesting how they can take concepts from much earlier in the game, and severely up the difficulty. Case in point: the Fleet Glide Galaxy. It's basically Wild Glide, but thoughts of "oh hey, this is kinda nice" are replaced with thoughts of "OMIGODIMGONNADIEYOUPEOPLEAREBATSHITINSAAANE". At least for me.

The reason I suck while playing it is because I'm recording it, and sudden noises jolt me, and i fall into a pit. But I still haven;t sumooned the cosmic guide yet
