The CD-i games are amazing Snark Bait. I love them the same way I love Adam West-era Batman.

I sure said that!

This particular guy is amazing at getting so much mileage out of those games, via sentence-mixing.

I have a message from another time...

Hello, guys. I'm about to drop a gargantuam bombshell so I hope you don't freak out. While I was watching Rabbidluigi's LP (very funny, by the way), I was starting to rewind in my mind about the many events that occur through the different regions of the game, and how in my playthroughs I did them (namely the order). At that time, I remembered about the first time I played the game, when back then I was noting that there was a particular type of problem. No, I'm not talking about the Five Stages of Grief because I obviously didn't know anything about it. Rather, what I noted was that each conflict in the areas of the game had to do with relationships. The problem with Kafei and Anju, the problem with the two seahorses that were separated, and so on. I thought it was nothing special so I had left the thoughts go since then. Until now.

While I was editing articles through my watchlist and made one recent edit in The Four Loves, I started wondering if that taxonomy would apply somehow to the game, and surprisingly I found various analogies. Not perfect ones, mind you, but it's still very interesting. As you know, according to C.S. Lewis, love can come in four flavors. Family affection, friendship, romance and beyond-all-things caring.

In Clock Town, the last thing you'll find there is a friend. Mistrust and wariness are the daily meal. Thanks to Skull Kid, the Bombers won't recruit any member to their team if the applicant isn't human; and they don't trust adults to begin with except for Professor Shikashi. The Rosa Sisters are too busy with their lame dance and won't pay Link attention until he teaches them Kamaro's dance. Link himself is (at first) mistreated by Tatl who only thinks about reuniting with Tael and the Skull Kid (it hurts even more that Link got dragged into the whole mess while he was searching for his friend Navi). In Southern Swamp, we get to see Kotake being worried about the whereabouts of her sister Koume; the Swamp Tourist Guide is worried that his son Tingle is not acting accordingly to his age (which, as the Guide himself admits, is because he never gave enough attention to him); and of course the Deku King is upset over the disappearance of his daughter, the Deku Princess; the Deku Butler also laments about the demise of his son.

Still with me? Good, time to proceed. In Snowhead, there was a warrior who was well-regarded by the Goron tribe: Darmani. He was heralded as a role model, and this is because he cared a lot about his fellow companions. He even gave his life to try to find a solution to the problem with the prolongued winter in the region. It's not too far-fetched to suggest that Agape is what Snowhead needs the most in its dire crisis. In the case of Great Bay, we have two seahorses who are dying to reunite, and when we do reunite them they kiss endlessly; we have a fisherman who is alone without a partner and depressed because he can't fish anymore due to the murky waters, so he asks Link to bring him a fresh picture of a Gerudo pirate so he can cope with a desire he otherwise can't deal with as long as he keeps living alone. And it's also implied that Mikau's primary motivation to help Lulu is because he loves her )and who knows if he's the father of the missing Zora eggs...).

Last, but not least, Ikana Canyon. Since there is no fifth love unlike the 5 stages of grief, you won't get to find any of the other four here. You won't even get to find anyone in need of them because most of the inhabitants are dead already. We only see the dead lurking around the whole area while spreading terror towards the living ones, suffering pain because of the past and long-finished wars, and rencor between each other. The only thing Link can do to help them is to lift the curse of Stone Tower so they can just rest in peace, away from the living world they shouldn't be in.

Yet another theory to add to the list.

Personally, I think Majora's Mask just falls under applicability.

So I got the pegasus boots.

I actually ended up returning the Smooth stone first, but it doesn't seem to really matter.

I must say, there were a couple instances in A Link Between Worlds where I got caught up in what I'd normally expect from a Zelda game, and thus missed the obvious wall-merging solution. With that area, since the Zora mentions that the thief jumped across the gap with the Pegasus Boots, I was convinced that I needed the Pegasus Boots to get across...and as it turns out, it's actually impossible to do that.

And then with that big rock that blocks the way to the desert area, I just kept passing by it, figuring that I needed to get upgraded gloves that would let me pick it up before I could go there. It was only near the end that I realized I could just merge into the wall and walk right past it...

Let's not forget about those wall-stuck Maimai's. Took me forever to figure that one out as well.

Getting the Pegasus Boots were one of the few times I think experience with ALttP actually worked against me- There's a seemingly-similar event in that game that requires you catch an NPC for... A Bottle, or a Piece of Heart, I think? Granted, you needed the Boots to do so, but you get where I'm going.

I sure said that!

I'm going to spend a long time wondering if I'd have figured it out if I wasn't told.

.....I hate that.

Still glad I was told, but I hate not knowing.

I ended up getting them really late game which did annoy me a little. It's one of the few flaws in a very good game.

So I'm in the house of Gales, and I'm a little stumped.

There's two fans blowing gusts of wind that I can't get past. I can briefly get between them because one of them doesn't blow far enough, and I can get right on the edge of the platform to get by, but once I'm between them, any attempt to move in any direction gets me blown right off the platform.

The Tornado Rod only goes straight up and won't let you move while in the air, and there are no walls nearby to use the painting trick on (and the ones that are there are too far away or have stuff blocking them).

It's really got me stumped.

I hate asking for advice as I like to figure this stuff out on my own, but I guess I got no choice.

It's on the second floor of the dungeon for those who are wondering. I hope I described it well.

There is a sort of a hint system in-game, if I remember right.

It's rarely useful for the what's actually causing you trouble. Apparently, the specifics of the puzzles weren't worth putting in answers for, but things like "You'll need the Hookshot to get in here" needed an NPC to spell it out.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

All I remember is that it took me a long time to figure out(no complaints, since i prefer to figure them out myself. I almost never asked for help on this game).

Also, getting the children off the walls took me a while, but the Pegasus Boots thing was even harder for me to figure out. I tried sneaking up on the thief. Failed every time. But the wall thing...

May I say that I love the application of the ability to fuse with a wall? It feels like a whole new dimension was added to the Zelda puzzles.

Which is ironic, since merging with walls takes away two dimensions, leaving you with only travelling left, or right.

You can jump onto moving platforms from below via the Tornado Rod, and there's one rom that has a very long wall-fused bit.

Try one of those two things, and you'll eventually through the House of Gales.

I sure said that!
