Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

And the only ones that are plot relevant and aren't evil are just humans in suits at most elaborate, so there's that, too.

Has there ever been an instance of female Bangaa?

There was the Night-Dancer but I though he was a Villainous Crossdresser....

One of the bounty hunter guy's underlings is a woman. Other than her voice there's no way to tell, though.

Revenant Wings gave her hair and... kinda feminized her, I guess?

There's female bangaa and seeq NPC's in the cities too, they don't really look any different from the men.

Rinok had the hair in XII too though

I recall once reading a Japanese forum thread talking about non-human female characters and it was pointed out how often they looked like humans with animal features, when their male counterparts looked more bestial. Someone posted a picture from some eastern MMO showing a race where the men were all hulking beastmen with animal faces, while the women where humans with animal ear, tails, and furry arms.

We have several tropes for it, even. It's pretty universal.

The Law during the fight with the Night Dancer (forbids harming opposite sex) implies that the Night Dancer is male.

One of the best sexual dimorphisms I have witnessed so far is probably Mass Effect's male and female turians.

Without female turians having any classical human sexual characteristics to distinguish themselves from males (unlike the Quarian's hourglass figure, for instance).

Five. Or, arguably, two - aside from Quarians, we don't see new genders in Mass Effect 2, it's between 2 and 3 that they decided to show other genders of some established races.

And no matter what - they look awesome, so the huge brainstorming was worth it (I'm not even sure it was longer than the brainstorming to turn Drells into Space Hunks back in the day.

Picked up Record Keeper. It's not bad.

Actually, that's not descrptive.

It's (so far) exactly what All The Bravest looked like it could've been and failed to deliver on. The battle system is way better, the iconic characters are easy to get, and the micropay stuff is nowhere nearly as horrendously aggressive as ATB. The game's even free to begin, unlike ATB.

Good to hear that.

'Cause seriously, buying every piece of All The Bravest's content costs more than all six of the first games iOS ports. For a glorified interactive screensaver.

... I don't want to be pessimistic about more mobile games from Square, but that was an especially egregious case, even by those low standards.

I think the Quarians still count... since they couldn't be bothered to actually give Tali an in game model with her suit off. even though they teased it in two.

True, but the Hartman Hips of female quarians are a rather common way to create a sexual dimorphism in an alien/fantastic race. While the only "common" trope you can associate with Turian dimorphism is Masculine Lines, Feminine Curves.

Oh, hey, neat!

Poor Xande. Gets all that buildup and backstory in his home game only for everyone to forget about him because he only physically shows up at the end and then Cloud of Darkness steals the show.

He makes a significantly cooler return in XIV.

I mean, granted, he's still ultimately upstaged by the Cloud of Darkness, but he gets to be the final boss of the Sycrus Tower portion of the Crystal Tower dungeons, and some pretty interesting story bits to go with it.

I attempted to fight the Trickster last night. Was doing okay initially.

And then someone started to cast magic. And then I suddenly realized there was an Elemental in the area.

And then things went downhill.

I got desperate and hit the Trickster with two Quickening chains when it was low on health.

THAT BASTARD TOOK 0 DAMAGE BOTH TIMES

<sigh> I don't know how to deal with this...

Ah, right, the Trickster. That was always a hunt I found myself putting off- Silver Chocobos are scary, yo.

I'm really not sure what to tell you- I've only ever managed it via the Basch + Haste + Berserk + Some Strong Two-Handed Weapon method.

Elementals or the Trickster must have been nerfed in IZJS because I had no problem murdering both the Ice Elemental and Trickster's faces and I remember that being an extremely difficult fight in the vanilla version too. That or the job license board made for some much more focused characters.
