Do the credits factor into a movie's runtime at all?

They do. Can't start another movie or play ads while the credits are still going. But it's not uncommon for songs to go there, usually covers or promotional tracks.

Going by fanfics it seems people are quite content to do their own Starboy stuff. XD

I get there's such a thing as pacing because you can't have too much otherwise your audience gets overwhelmed and they lose interest/investment. This movie could've definitely benefitted from continuing to run through things to get a pace that unlike the actual movie, wouldn't rush through things to make sure they all got through in time.

Criminy. I'd been bothered by casting Victor Garber as a character who never sings, but knowing he originally did have a song (and that the song might have carried some emotional weight) just makes me even more baffled about the choices that dragged the movie across the finish line. I don't expect we'll get a "making of" documentary like they did with Frozen 2, but everything points to a prime example of Troubled Production.

I mean I remembered going in thinking that Magnifico was gonna do stuff like reveal Amaya was the actual heir to rule, but he hypnotized her and tricked her into marrying him while also turning power over to him as well (and I though "What We Know Know" would tie into that too). Thus, holding the wishes would indeed be truly defined by keeping everyone under his control and dependent on him without a doubt. That they don't outright imply or reveal that his benevolence is simply an act to be able to have the influence he has and keep Rosas totally under his thumb is something they definitely needed to spend time on.

They could've still without a doubt made him the villain while also keeping this stuff secret. It would've totally worked to the benefit of both points they were making.

That his instinct is to keep everyone enslaved and/or bonded once achieving full and total power shows it's what he truly wanted all along. We need a bit more than that though is the thing.

[up]I wonder if that was on purpose or by accident. Haha.

Again, the movie's creativity in the way it built its profile as a throwback and amalgamation is admirable. It also needed a bit more work though.

It felt like they tried so hard to write Magnifico as outright evil from the start, but they're so used to doing surprise villains now, they tried to have it both ways and still kind of try to trick the audience. It felt half-baked or unfocused certainly—or that they either thought they were being deep or they felt like he wasn't complex if he wasn't at first trustworthy somehow (and it did kind of backfire unfortunately).

According to both Amazon and Walmart—the latter specifically, the DVD art with look like the poster that I hope it would—the one currently on the Western Animation page for the film.

I agree with Shoobedobah on page 1, from the original star boy concept and other things cut from the film, I feel like a lot of Executive Meddling went on behind the scenes

You can't tell if the constant tinkering was to make it more inclusive or to make it safer. It's hard to say either way.

Ok, spoilers for my future "The tales between worlds" FFN storyline:

Instead of doing another Starboy case like most guys do, how about I make King Magnificento as a major villain, trying to get revenge on all of existence just over his well-deserved defeat?

[up]I like that idea.

It's weird that with his performance as Magnifico, this is the second time Chris Pine recently played a despot acting like the seemingly idyllic "Utopia" he created was for the benefit of others. Haha.

In the evil Amaya phase, Dahlia was the character who believed in Magnifico wholeheartedly until his Jumping Off the Slippery Slope, then turns on him and helps the others (including Simon) during a search in a dungeon for the captured Sakina and Sabino.

There they encounter an eighth teen friend for Asha, Flazino, who was serving as Magnifico's apprentice, learned the truth the hard way when his wish was crushed, and had information on how he might be defeated; he was seen as one friend too many.

Anyone else headcanon Magnifico as one of Yen Sid's former apprentices? Because I think if he ever shows up in Kingdom Hearts it'd be a great thing to see Sid give him a firm dressing down, for how much Magnifico has fallen short of the potential he saw in him.

Magnifico: You don't get it, master. These people, they don't know how good they have it because of me, and they just keep asking and asking for more. Don't I deserve little bit more respect than that?
Yen Sid: (Arms crossed) You were entrusted with their very dreams! What greater mark of respect is there?! No, Magnifico, the failure of respect is yours, not there's.—You who was meant to safeguard and realize the limitless potential of others, only to horde and make trinket's of them, as ithough they were ever yours to keep. Tell me, ...apprentice, when did the brilliant young student I admired so, abandon grace for vanity?!
Magnifico: AHRR!

Yen Sid's kind of a crap teacher if that's the case. Heck, his other apprentice nearly caused a Grey Goo Scenario by accident.

You know, it actually would be pretty interesting to see Magnifico in Kingdom Hearts, if only because they've proven willing to go for Alternative Character Interpretation in regards to the Disney villains. I could see him presented as a full on Fallen Hero example of a good king who fell to darkness, especially given the character's reception in Japan. Star could be a cute summon, too.

Have they really done that though? Most of the Disney villains in KH are as nasty as they were in their original stories. That nastiness is why they could be corrupted into Heartless in the first place as seen with Scar.

The only Disney villains to gain some depth were Maleficent and Pete.

Counterpoint: Hades got pretty much a whole new character arc, largely because of how his world got shoehorned into everything.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wish is just plain ignored by KH. When's the last time you saw an Atlantis the Lost Empire reference in a KH game? Or a Treasure Planet reference?

Sometimes of course the Disney villains don't even become Heartless or are involved with Heartless at all. Sora has to beat them down anyway.
