Features That You Wish You Could Add To TV Tropes

For me, I've always want there to be a system where tropers could add audio players (like Wikipedia), add colors to folders (to make pages more dynamic), and the ability to change one's username.

There's a wishlist, ya know.

I wish the report button was more visable and bigger,most of the time I forget it's there so I report through Ask The Troopers

Also a proper reply feature that quotes the post I'm responding to

Prevents ninja-ing.

The old forum search, which just showed you every thread containing a certain word. Much more convenient for actually finding threads

A block button.

I'm going to seethe about the forums lacking a basic quality of life feature until my dying breath.

And I'm going to continue to point out that a block button would be fucking horrendous for the left side forums

Its called an ignore function and its honestly more trouble then it's worth.

To be clear I'm not mad at you or anything, and I do think my first post was a little too aggro, but yeah such a feature only actually works on sites where ignoring other users wouldn't create massive issues.

I know you self-thumped already; I just want to clarify a little bit more calmly because while I get why people would like an ignore feature (and there's a wishlist item for it already), people who ask for one tend to ignore the whole "wiki work" aspect of the forums.

Anyway, since the wishlist does already exist I'm not sure if it's necessary to keep this thread alive. I suppose it can't hurt though, lol

Though speaking of basic quality forum features: why the heck (other than the fact that the admins may or may not actually exist) do we still not have a quote button? Eddie and his bizarre opposition to it have been gone for, what, 7-8 years?

Yeah, the quote button is one I'll agree should've been added ages ago

Searching posts by user in a specific thread! Sometimes I just want to look up my old posts in certain threads

A quote button would be useful, but I also agree with Fast Eddie that it tends to be abused. Like, quoting an entire post when only one sentence is relevant to the reply. Or quoting a post that is itself quoting a post, until you have half a dozen nested boxes and the actual post itself is lost in the clutter. Or quoting the post right above. I've seen people do all of this on Blizzard Entertainment's forums, sometimes all at once.

It's worth recalling that you can select part of a post, ctrl+c, ctrl+v it into the post box, click "Show Markup Help" and copy from it [[quoteblock]].

If not a quote button, at least simpler quote markup (like how Reddit just uses >).

Nobody forgot about it, but using it can be cumbersome.
