Note: This thread was originally proposed by ~amathieu13, who gave others permission to make the thread.

I can see why it existed as a subtrope when Bald Of Awesome existed as a trope, considering that "awesome" can cover a wide array of things, but Bald of Authority's more narrow scope pushes it into the not useful variety of The Same, but More Specific, since the racial difference doesn't actually contribute anything to the trope, making it superficial at best and as this ATT thread brought up, offensive at worst.

Wick Check shows that similar to Bald Of Awesome wicks are mostly ZCE and partial examples, but notably 12% of the 65 wicks checked are shoehorns to fit any not-bald, black male leaders into the trope.

Recommendation: Merge this into Bald of Authority.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

Anyway, I agree with merging for being The Same, but More Specific.

[tup] to a merge. That being said, I do wonder if there might be something to an "authoritative black guy" trope, if only as a Trope in Aggregate.

[up][up]I'm pretty sure it's already a Trope in Aggregate, despite not being indexed as such. Bald of Authority might be a Trope in Aggregate as well now that you mention it, since portrayal of bald people as authority figures seems like something that you'd have to compare multiple works to see, as opposed to Superboss and Technicolor Magic (to use tropes from other current TRS threads as reference points) are something you'd be able to notice within a single work (since a boss that's noticeably stronger than the Final Boss and the use of colors to indicate magic would be noticeable within a single work).

Edit: Oh, I guess Bald of Authority is already indexed as a Trope in Aggregate. (I guess I didn't think to check because I was away from TV Tropes for a bit to buy a new computer, since I got my current computer around three or four years ago.)

Fun fact, for whatever reason I keep reading this trope as "Bald Leader Black Guy". This thread made me realize I've been wrong for ages.

Anyway, merge.

Are examples with race focus fine as-is? Could sound odd with a more general trope.

[up] If you think the race focus can stay, that's fine.
