Misused: Yaoi Guys

I don't think 'Beta Couple that is gay' is distinct enough to be its own trope- that seems like it's just The Same, but More Specific unless there's some deeper narrative impact I'm not seeing.

That's a good point. Maybe we could turn Yaoi Guys and Token Yuri Girls into disambiguation pages for the other tropes listed in this thread if the two merge ideas that came up in this thread wouldn't work.

I am rather doubtful that incongruent^note When the Beta Couple has a different orientation from the main one Beta Couple-main couple combinations have the same impact as congruent ones.

In theory sure, but it doesn't look like the wicks checked had any impact beyond being a Beta Couple that's gay.

Maybe a version that goes further than that could be added to the Trope Idea Salvage Yard.

Yeah, I don't see any point to making a Gay Beta Couple trope. It's just not different enough.

I'm leaning toward turning the two into disambiguation pages for the pages listed on the first page of this thread, such as in Amonimus's post here and Acebrock's post below that, as well as Yaoi Fangirl (and maybe also Boys' Love Genre) and Yuri Fanboy (and maybe also Yuri Genre) for Yaoi Guys and Token Yuri Girls, respectively (per what the opening post said about the characters being included for Yaoi Fangirls and Yuri Fanboys, respectively).

Maybe we could Yard Gay Beta Couple, since it doesn't look like we arleady have enough existing examples to merge these two tropes into that.

Crowner time?

I admit I'm a bit worried that no option will get consensus in such a crowner, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess

What are the options though? I may have missed something.

For Yaoi Guys and Token Yuri Girls together:

• Merge and decide on the scope with another crowner (exclusive with other options)
• Diambiguate between various shipping, diversity and queer tropes (LGBT Fanbase, Yaoi Fangirl, Yaoi Genre, Gay Option, Faux Yay, Pseudo-Romantic Friendship, Beta Couple, Watched It for the Representation...)
• Send Token Gay (Beta) Couple to Trope Idea Salvage Yard for now

As I've said in the past, it's ideal for redefinition options to state the definition option(s) from the beginning so people know what they're voting for. The first option needs to be clarified, even if it means splitting it into more than one redefinition option.

The other two options are fine, though.

Double posting because maybe we could split the merge and redefine options this way:

• Merge into a gender-neutral trope for token gay couples; name would be decided with another crowner
• Merge into a trope for gay Beta Couples; name would be decided with another crowner

I think only two definitions were suggested for merges; keeping the token aspect and redefining to be about Beta Couples were the only definition options I recall seeing suggested for merges.

That works, along with the options suggested by (using the two you suggested as a replacement for the redefine option)

I wouldn't mind slowly migrating all uses and potholes of Yaoi Guys into oblivion into more fitting tropes, as it only exists as a result of the early days when users didn't have the ability to distinguish between couples that have canonical gay text or subtext versus what is just fan-shipped Ho Yay, or any other gay/bi-related tropes.

I'll dewick both pages over the next two or three days starting now. If someone wants to disambiguate them in the meantime, that would be great.

Actually, I meant to ask if any examples need to be moved (if they fit any of the tropes that are going on the disambiguation pages) before the pages are disambiguated. I thought I already asked that, but saw I misremembered after I clicked on this thread just now.

I'll look over them later, if someone doesn't beat me to it. Right now, I'm going over Token Yurigirls' wicks, while my cat ignores my absence.

I'm going to move the pages' contents to sandboxes so we can get the disambiguation pages up. Give me a bit.

I have updated the Cut Tropes section of Trope Epitaph to reflect Token Yuri Girls and Yaoi Guys being turned into disambiguation pages.

The wicks have all been cleared; is there anything else we need to do?
