Welcome to Novus City! This is a bustling metropolis where you can be anything. And I mean anything.

One year ago, the brilliant scientist Rodney Wallace tested his brand new power generator. The machine was built to generate enough electricity to power the entire city using just the flame of a single candle. Unfortunately, a storm quickly rolled in during the test. By some freak accident, lightning struck the generator, overloading it and causing an explosion that sent waves of energy throughout the city. This energy bonded with many people in the city, giving them superpowers!

However, many of the supers are using their powers for evil. Prof. Wallace went missing immediately after the explosion, and no one has heard from him since. It's up to us to band together to fight crime around the city!

This is the signup sheet for my new RP thread. It's an episodic superhero action-adventure story. It will be divided into "issues," in which we fight a different supervillain or whatever else we decide on doing. This thread's story is heavily influenced by The Flash (2014), but it does not use actual characters or specific names from the show, so you don't have to be familiar with the show to join this game.

RULES FOR SIGNUP

1. No OP characters.
2. No characters who are NSFW or break the TV Tropes rules.
3. If your character has powers, I would prefer it if you wrote their backstory so that they got those powers from the generator explosion. If you have a different idea, please run it by me on here or in private.
4. There are no limits on your character's species, powers, weapons, etc. as long as they don't break the first two rules.
5. I would prefer it if your main character was a superhero. If you want to make them a villain or something else, please run it by me on here or in private. You can also create NPCs who can be villains or anything else, although I wouldn't create more than 3 characters to start with.

My characters

Player character (Hero)

• Name/Alias: Joseph Canio/"Motley"
• Gender: Male
• Age: 37
• Appearance: A skinny man with blue hair, chalk-white skin, and permanent clown "facepaint" (see backstory.) His superhero outfit is a black-and-white jester motley.
• Powers/Skills: Flight, agility, circus skills (juggling, unicycle-riding, etc)
• Weaknesses: Insecure about clown face, a bit of a Fragile Speedster too.
• Personality: Joseph is kind of a Sad Clown. He feels stuck as a clown and wishes people would take him seriously. However, he's still a nice person overall.
• Biography: Joseph was a birthday party clown. He had always wanted to get into a circus, but he was rejected by every circus he found for not being athletic enough. Joseph was on his way from another birthday party when the generator explosion happened. When Joseph got home to train, he realized that the tricks he was practicing were suddenly much easier for him. He was even more delighted to learn he could fly. But then he discovered, to his horror, that his new powers also gave him a permanent clown face. Joseph feels trapped between being a clown and an acrobat, but he still wants to use his newfound powers for good.
• Misc: Joseph is partially meant to be a heroic example of Practically Joker. His flight powers and acrobat/jester theme were inspired by NiGHTS.

NPC (Mission Control)

• Name/Alias: Anthony Zorro
• Gender: Male
• Age: 21
• Appearance: A young adult with large glasses and curly hair, usually wearing pop-culture-related T-shirts.
• Powers/Skills: Gadgeteer Genius.
• Weaknesses: No fighting skills or superpowers.
• Personality: Anthony is a Keet, very cheerful and jokey, and likes to lighten the mood. However, he is sincere about wanting to help others and keep the city safe.
• Biography: Anthony has always been highly talented with machines. He got a job as a lab assistant to Prof. Wallace while in college. Anthony didn't know Wallace for too long before the generator exploded and Wallace disappeared. As such, he didn't know Prof. Wallace very well personally, but still hopes to find Prof. Wallace and bring him back to the lab safely.
• Misc: Anthony is inspired by Cisco Ramon from The Flash (2014), mainly in personality.

• Name/Alias: Brock Johnson

• Gender: Male

• Age: 29

• Appearance: A 6'5, 287 lbs. African-American man with a flattop, a leather jacket with a tank top underneath, jeans and sneakers.

• Powers/Skills: Has super strength, and a bit speedy (though not Flash-speed) as he uses his body as quite the effective weapon to fight and knock people down.

• Weaknesses: Has the tendency to be overconfident in his abilities and a bit on the dim side, which can come back to bite him hard.

• Personality: He's a bit on the cocky and arrogant side, talking about how great he is. But underneath it all, he's someone who cares about his friends and wanting to save the city.

• Biography: Brock Johnson was a former professional football defensive lineman, being something of a local hero in Novus City. During his time in the league, he was a star player, hailed as one of the best in the league and one of the most feared. But a couple years prior, he suffered a bad leg injury that ultimately ended his career. Since then, he's been trying to live off his name, doing endorsements and appearances. But in secret, is someone who's hungry to find a new meaning in his life after his football career ended. Some new way he can make something of himself. And perhaps being a new hero will satisfy that urge.

• Name/Alias: Ravis Renchi "The Wrench"
• Gender:Female

• Age:43

• Appearance:She's an African-American woman with long, curly black hair and piercing brown eyes, she is often seen wearing a croptop with some weird thing on it, a bandana, gloves with some metal embedded on them and overalls. Her left leg is prostethic

• Powers/Skills:Ravis is skilled in melee, hand-to-hand combat, first aid and using firearms, most military-necessary skills. Her top non-combat talent being dealing with machines and being a good driver. Her powers, however are manipulating metal.

• Weaknesses: She tends to treat shortcuts or easy-ways out as useless and is stubborn most times. Her handicap tends to slow her down sometimes

• Personality:Ravis is a flirty yet snarky and straight-to-the point, blunt woman who is mostly easygoing and prefers hard work over idleness and what she considers 'laziness'. She has Nerves of Steel and can easily work under pressure, pun unintended

• Biography:Ravis was born to the Renchi, a family of mechanics and owners of a car company as an only child for most years of her childhood, only for her mother to die while giving birth to her little sister Ada, who Ravis hated for that. She began to vent out her frustrations by doing illegal races until an event known as The Screwup turned her life around and decided to stay on the right side of the law, eventually enlisting to the army and working her way to the Sergeant position. When she was 36, she and a few other soldiers got put as testers to a secret experiment, Project F one that ended with the test-area collapsing and the F-Elements got into Ravis's body, making her lose her leg but get her metal powers. She was honorably discharged from the army but started to work as an underground hero until she retired a few months after the generator explosion and decided to continue the family business and opened her own mechanic shop. However, she still helps out the heroes as much as she can since she can't stand being idle.

• Misc: Ravis flirts for fun but is married to the job. She looks young for someone in her early 40s

Name/Alias: Larry Lagos "The bunnyman"

Gender: Male

Age:26

Appearance: A half-human, half-rabbit hybrid he has a humanoid form with long bunny ears with big rabbit feet, large claw-like nails coming out of his hands and feet, light brown fur covering his entire body, large buckteeth, a pink nose and six whiskers he wears nothing but some blue shorts with a hole for his cotton tail.

Powers/skills: Super speed, metal breaking bites and slashes, extra powerful kicks, tunnel digging, enhanced hearing and smelling, extandable ears that can hit, grab and even allow him to fly by flapping them really fast and capable of jumping incredible distances.

Weakness: he's not very durable and tends to be insecure about his odd looks and supposedly "lame" powers.

Personality: He's an insecure and shy guy that usually prefers to be by himself but also longs to gain friendship and while sometimes try to act friendly but came out as awkward, he loves nature and animals and will always stands up for them.

Biography: Even before the accident Larry had always been an outcast with most other people, because of his poor social skills and for having overgrown, theeth, ears and feet, he had always relate more to feral animals wich didn't judge for his odd appearence, when he grew he become a worker at a pet shelter and looked out to rescue as many animals as he could, after the energy wave from the explosion hit him in caused to absorve the charasteristics of the animals which was closer to him which was a little rabbit, afterwards he decided to use his newfound abilities to become a superhero on his freetime in an attempt to become popular and gain human friends.

Misc: his berserk buttons are calling him rodent since rabbits are actually lagomorphs and offering carrots since he hates them and they're actually bad for rabbits.

• Name/Alias: Cyrus Yazan "Primordial"

• Gender: Male

• Age: 24

• Appearance: 5'9 ,He's a person of Iranian descend with side parted , straight grey hair and dark brown eyes. He often wears a beige tank top with ripped jeans and red tinted sunglasses , with regular sneakers.

• Powers: Cyrus can transform into different kinds of extinct life forms such as dinosaurs, cave people, prehistoric animals etc. whether partially or completely, as well as use the abilities, traits and appearance/physiology of those extinct life forms. As long as said lifeform no longer inhabits earth or in better terms "Extinct" he can transform into it.

• Skills: Geology , Paleontology, Creative Combat

• Weaknesses: He not really a fighter in human form and injuries sustained while in other forms are transferred to his human form. The larger creatures in his repertoire take more effort to transform into.

• Personality: Cyrus is a rather chill individual who is not afraid of getting to know someone. He has an undying love for all things nature and environmental. Despite being pretty friendly, if you do get on Cyrus's bad side he won't kill you over it, but he can be an a@#hole.

• Biography: Before the accident occurred Cyrus was your average college student wanting to become a paleontologist. On the night of the accident he was looking over his various study notes. During this late night study session Cyrus was barely staying awake ,soon after he fell asleep. Suddenly the wave of energy hit the surrounding areas ,jolting him from his slumber , quickly after Cyrus made his way to the bathroom. During the stroll to the mirror he decided to glance down at his hands , the left one was normal but the right was clawed and reptilian. Ever since that night Cyrus has been experimenting with his newly found powers and putting them to good use.

• Misc: He has dossiers of many prehistoric creatures.

Hello everyone. Sorry I never got around to starting this. Time really got away from me. However, I am little more free now, and I am thinking about starting the thread for real sometime in the next few days, maybe even tomorrow, depending on how many people are interested. What do you think?

• Name/Alias: Connor P. Sauer
• Gender: Male

• Age: 21 years by date; 26 years by amount of time he's experienced

• Appearance: A young man standing at around six feet, with longish dark hair that varies between "kinda nice-looking" and "is there a mouse living up there or what?" (Connor's personal habits are anything but consistent.) Generally wears a brightly colored shirt and, if it's cold, an equally brightly-colored coat. Walks with a cane.

• Powers/Skills:
  • Time travel: Connor can move backwards in time - he has never successfully gone forward, although he might be able to learn how. He can also bring people and objects with him, as long as he's touching them. However, Connor can't just go around changing the past willy-nilly because messing with his own timeline can cause, at best, a nasty headache. At worst, fatal brain damage. Connor is very interested in figuring out some way to reduce the side effects so he can actually save more people, though he has made absolutely zero progress as of yet.
  • In other news, Connor can actually fight. Really dang well for someone who walks with a cane. He actually used his time travel powers to spend a lot of time perfecting a style of martial arts that doesn't require him to put his cane down, and actually utilizes the cane quite a bit. It's probably not helping his knee condition, but hey, what can you do?
  • Thirdly, ever since he experienced the generator explosion a second time, he is resistant to pain (the time travel headaches still hurt the same though). Not to actual injury, you understand, just pain. And the effect doesn't eliminate pain entirely, just lessen it. Naturally, this is a double-edged sword: while it means he can get pretty badly injured and just keep going, it also means he has a hard time telling when he needs medical attention.

• Weaknesses:
  • His knees are not in good condition. Not in the least. Long story short, Connor suffered several knee injuries over the course of a few early time jumps, and didn't get them treated until much later than he probably should have. He then proceeded not to rest for long periods of time, and the upshot is that the complications have lasted for five subjective years. This also means he walks with a cane, though don't think this means he can't fight, and if he really needs to run fast, he'll drop the cane and, ya know, run fast. (This almost always ends in him collapsing, but no matter.)
  • As you may have figured out, Connor is incredibly reckless with his safety. Is it because of the pain resistance? Is it part of his Chronic Hero Syndrome? Who knows, but what's certain is that the "P." in his name doesn't stand for "prudence." Or "personal safety." Or "preservation, self-." Or "panda," I mean, why would it stand for panda?
• Personality: Connor is somewhat snarky, goofy, and quite prone to going off on odd tangents and making bizarre metaphors, often mixed with Buffy Speak and Dissimiles. Sometimes he's quiet and even seems distracted, other times he moves into Large Ham territory. However, behind all the silliness is a Determinator who never gives up on something once he's decided it's important and consistently puts other people's lives before his own. He's pretty friendly, and is generally polite even to his enemies, of which there are not many. Connor has eclectic interests, reads a lot, and knows something about most subjects, but can't do basic arithmetic to save his life.

• Biography: For most people, it's been one year since the generator explosion that gave everyone superpowers. For Connor, it's been five. Prior to gaining his powers, he was a typical college student, living in the city, hoping to one day become a writer, and working in a bookstore because who doesn't love bookstores?^note  Well, some people, I'd imagine. Then the generator goes boom, and stuff happens. In his case, this "stuff" involved being blasted back in time. Several weeks of time, in fact. He doesn't really talk much about what happened during that time, but his knees got pretty badly injured, and he figured out how the whole time-travel-gives-you-brain-damage dealie worked, before eventually making his way to the hospital. They started treating his injuries and had him on painkillers... just in time for the generator to go boom, again. Oh joy. Luckily for him, though, this one didn't knock him back in time. All it did was seemingly cause the painkillers he was on to merge with his metabolism or something, making him resistant to pain. After a while, he decided it would be a good idea to help people by becoming a superhero. Realizing the limitations of his powers in the area of combat, he flew to another country (so as not to accidentally run into himself), went back in time the longest he ever has (five years), and trained in martial arts. He also learned how to play the accordion, because why not.

• Misc: Connor's time travel, his knee injuries, and his unrelenting (and kind of unhealthy) determination were all inspired by All Night Laundry and its protagonist, Bina.

Villain NPC

• Name/Alias: Heidi Blaggut/"Sewer Rat"
• Gender: Female
• Age: 24
• Appearance: As a human, Heidi was a 5'2" woman with large ears and long, perpetually messy black hair. As a mutant, she is a 7'0" ratlike humanoid with black fur and a long, pink tail.
• Powers/Skills: Super strength, claws, fangs, and a surprising amount of stealth for someone her size.
• Weaknesses: Dumb Muscle. She's not very strategic when it comes to fighting, although, as mentioned, she is good at sneaking around.
• Personality: Sewer Rat is a Tragic Villain who just wants to be loved. She's usually Affably Evil, and won't do evil things just For the Evulz. However, she's easily angered, and when she's angry, she gets violent. She still has a shred of good in her, but it's hard to reason with her because she doesn't trust most people.
• Biography: Heidi was always something of a loner. She wanted to make friends, but she wasn't sure how. Her father was a city maintenance worker. One time he took her down into the sewer because she wanted to see it, and she became fascinated with the rats living in the sewer. She came down there often to feed the rats, talk to them, or even just to watch them. They were her only friends... until she started dating Sam Strauss, an uptight, straight-laced pianist. Heidi always had an interest in classical and jazz music too. But when Heidi told Sam about her fascination with the rats, he was disgusted and immediately dumped her. Heidi came to the sewer to cry when the generator explosion happened. The energy waves transformed Heidi into a giant, ratlike mutant!
• Misc:
  • Sewer Rat is partially inspired by Melvin, my character in We Are All Pirates' Revenge, being a large rat with a tragic backstory. She's also a partial expy of Killer Croc (although a little less so after I reworked her backstory to what it is now.)
  • Sewer Rat was originally male, however, I realized that all my characters in this thread were male, so I thought it would be interesting to make her female instead.
