Ambiguous Name: Most Annoying Sound

Taking care of a few. So far, managed to spare a couple from Funny Moments since the creator commented on them.

Okay, we're down to 1900 now.

A couple more instances were namespaced due to being used In-Universe.

Wicks are in the 1700s now.

Confusingly, Darth Wiki says

while What Goes Where on the Wiki says

So is this page allowed in YMMV or not?

The latter refers to entries on Sugar and Darth Wiki pages.

So, no. Any entries on YMMV pages for works must go.

Or do examples go in subpages by work or medium?

Where *do* Most Annoying Sound entries go?

Does that mean that things like He Really Can Act, Funny Moments, Moment of Awesome, Heartwarming Moments, Sweet Dreams Fuel, etc. should not be on work pages?

I think Brainulator meant to ask if pages in Darth Wiki and Sugar Wiki shouldn't be on the YMMV subpage of work pages. So an extension of your "where *does* Most Annoying Sound" go for a work?" question.

What about cases where it's used In-Universe?

In this case a review show that showcases bad games, where the Caustic Critic points out and reacts to a Critical Annoyance or sound made by the Annoying Video Game Helper, etc.

For those, I changed the link and nothing else. Seemed right?

Noting that the YMMV Redirects entry for DarthWiki.The Most Annoying Sound was changed to link to DarthWiki.Most Annoying Sound (despite the latter not being a redirect), then removed entirely instead of being reverted back to the former (the removal being by mistake, the change to a non-redirect wick being due to unknown reasons). I'd change it back myself, but I'm afraid that might count as edit warring, since I originally added Main.The Most Annoying Sound to the list until it was cutlisted in favor of DarthWiki.The Most Annoying Sound.

An example was added back to YMMV.Final Fantasy XIII with the edit reason "Most Annoying Sound is explicitly listed as something that CAN go on YMMV pages on the YMMV Home Page Administrivia guide: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/HomePage". Is this correct?

Edit: Looking at the YMMV.Home Page, Most Annoying Sound was originally there under the Main/ namespace and was changed to Darth Wiki, which seems to be the source of the dispute. Should it have been removed?

Yeah, it's been there for years. It's definitely outdated.

I made an ATT thread asking about it. Let's see what others say to avoid an edit war.

The main redirect was cut. It seems that all that remains is to make sure that the remaining wicks comply with the rules for the trope listed on the main page:

"In order for one of these sounds to be a Most Annoying Sound, it must fall into one of the following categories; otherwise it's just personal dislike:

• Annoying Video Game Helper — In a game's attempts to assist you, it just irritates you even more, often due to repetition.
• Critical Annoyance — The sound for "Warning! Bad stuff happening!", and in this case it causes you to perform even worse.
• Death sounds — Your character is already dead, and that stupid death music is playing again.
• Repetitive sounds — Sounds that re- sounds that repeat-repeat-repeat themselves- sounds that repeat themselves are the worst-worst-worst.
• Taunts — The "come at me!" moves/sounds in multiplayer games are often designed to create this annoyance. Any strategy to use taunts to annoy other players and possibly screw with their concentration is generally considered poor form."

By "This is only allowed on Darth Wiki pages", it means the YMMV-y ones, right? Not Unpublished Works using them like regular tropes?

Because the latter is how Most Annoying Sound is used on DarthWiki.Hue Horse Havoc.

The requirement for it to be restricted to Darth Wiki doesn't include Unpublished Works, as far as I know. The decision to remove it from the YMMV index was simply to clear up the fact that it can't go on YMMV subpages, since Most Annoying Sound is still subjective.

I guess we need mod confirmation to set that as policy, before we do anything?

I actually made a wishlist request for Sandbox/ and Pantheon/ wicks to not be counted in the Related/ tab, since they're pretty much useless in determining the health of a trope and the rules with them are so much more relaxed that they may as well just not be worried about. (Besides, cutting wicks from Sandboxes runs the risk of upsetting the Sandbox's creator, and cutting Pantheon/ wicks may cause controversy with the people working the Pantheon Project. These aren't issues we should put as a priority, but they may be a reason to not worry about them as much.)
