I agree that "The Reason You Suck" Speech isn't necessarily a character trope.
Reposting.
Should Too Dumb to Live be on character pages?
AFAIK it depends on how often it occurs. If it's a staple of their character than yeah, if it's just them carrying the Idiot Ball then nah because it's probably just going to be complaining from whoever wrote the entry
Silver and gold, silver and gold"Character did a thing once" does not make that thing a Character Trope. Only if that thing becomes distinctly identified with the character due to repetition would it possibly count.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Right. I'm backing you up, with a slightly different emphasis.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Too Dumb to Live can be both a situation and a trait, but without further context there's no way of telling which.
e: Well I forgot Lethally Stupid

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupAh, sorry. Didn't realize what you meant at first.
FWIW Lethally Stupid is more firmly a character trope; is there a specific example you're asking about, @Random Troper 123? Cause those two tropes overlap a lot.
Silver and gold, silver and goldYeah, I don't think Too Dumb to Live is a trait; it's a character committing an act so dumb it may kill them. Lethally Stupid is the character trait.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOk. Thanks everyone for your responses.
Also, to respond to the question at, I'm not necessarily referring to a specific situation actually.
Is If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him! a character because I deleted this entry in Sandbox.Slow Damage Takuma Murase since it feels like a narrative trope to me.
- If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: In the climax of his route, Taku is given the opportunity to pull the trigger on Toono. He ultimately decides against it, stating that while they're both shitty people, he refuses to stoop down to the other's level.
Asking here for confirmation...
By default, should Wrecked Weapon and Mugging the Monster go to the Character folders, or to the work's main page?
With Great Power, Comes Great MotivationBoth read as narrative/plot point tropes to me.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsQuestion regarding Armor-Piercing Question; do we list in it for the character giving the question or the character receiving the question? Or do we not list it in character pages at all?
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AIf someone continually asks these questions, to the point they it becomes a defining trait, it's a candidate for their page. Otherwise, it's a plot moment, not a character trope.
That said, if someone is unfortunate enough to continually be on the receiving end of them, I guess that might be worth listing too. Although that situation suggests a lack of self-awareness that means that other character tropes might be more appropriate.

Additionally, do we list standard tropes (like Everyone Has Standards) on characters who are on the receiving end of them. Like this
- Everyone Has Standards: They are on the receiving end of this because blah blah blah.
I think that would go in the standard-haver's section, as not all examples have a character on the receiving end. ("Bob might be an asshole but he believes in recycling.")

A lot of good you did me.Could someone direct me to pages with folders you'd consider to be up to snuff already? I've been rooted in the "any trope is fine as long as it involves a character" mindset, because every dive I've made through the characterization trope index brought me into narrative trope territory.
I see "The Reason You Suck" Speech being posted on Character pages a lot. But it seems like it's more of a plot trope? What do you guys think?
I think unless it's a thing a particular character does frequently to the point of being a major part of their character, a trope like "The Reason You Suck" Speech shouldn't be there.
As an example with a different trope, I added an entry for Decapitation Strike for Nanao Hibiya on Characters.Reign Of The Seven Spellblades, because it really is a routine part of her fighting style in group combats: she frequently and deliberately goes straight for the opposing leader to end fights.
Is Point of Divergence a character trope? Because it strikes me more as a narrative one.

She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AThis sounds like a heavily subjective topic.
I agree; that's why I said "default".
