Being a popular big name actor isn't a reason to cast him? All of Illumination's (recent) movies have big name actors voicing the characters.

And you just ignored the point I was responding to.
I say I hope the Whoville community is nicer this time in comparison with the Jim Carey version. They still seem to love the commercialism of Christmas, but they don't seem to be as mean spirited as in the other version.
Big name voice actors are not always the best in any case. The Peanuts Movie had a great cast of basically nobodies. Noah Schnapp wouldn't get his big break as Will Byers until a year later. Madisyn Shipman and Francesca Capaldi were on unmemorable sitcoms. Really, Kristin Chenoweth was the most famous person there and all she had to do was bark. I'm hoping for more nobodies in the cast.
I'll be honest, Celebrity Voice Actors don't tend to bother me as much as other people unless it's obvious they were hired less for their acting talent and more for marketability (for instance, Shark Tale). That said, it would be cool if someone found a middle ground and made a film with a mixture of celebrities (albeit ones who aren't new to voice work) and actual voice actors like Tom Kenny and Grey DeLisle.
I always thought Cumberbatch would make a good Grinch from the moment he was announced, and hopefully what we heard in the trailer isn't indicative of how he'll sound throughout the whole film.

Everyone in Shark Tale is a good actor. You should instead be wary of Ink-Suit Actor characters that are so into the Uncanny Valley that its creepy. Like that Will Smith fish.

I know. But that doesnt mean they dont know how to act. Will Smith,Jack Black (Yes, he does know how to), Renee Zellwegger and Angelina Jolie DO know how to act. The movie's REALLY fucking shitty (I like it tho) but you cant just do a blanket statement like that.

Disney has done celebrities voicing characters since the 40's, but they knew how to make characters stand out on their own and not just who voice them. When you think of Genie it's not just Robin Williams voicing a magical creature, but Robin actually became him.
Also, just because someone's a good live-actor doesn't make them a good voice actor. Both types of acting have different requirements.
That is why some celebrities are actually great in both live and animated roles. I really have to say that Robin Williams was one of those actors who was made to voice certain characters, because of his energy, voice, and personality. Look at Back To Neverland, which featured him before he became the genie.
I know that better than most. Voice Acting is waaaaaaaaaaay different from Live Action Acting.

Which, to put it gently, was a really great film that the two gave a stellar which ended up being Dreamworks highly regarded film series with a trilogy that is just perfect! Suffice to say while there are examples where using celebrity voice acting is bad, that does not mean said actors aren’t able to give a performance in vocal form with the same amount of effort as their live roles (somebody already mention Robin Williams so thats a good example there).
But we are talking about the current celebrity for this movie, Bennedict Cumberbatch. Can he put on a great performance as a voice actor as he does in live work . . . yes he can. As proven with his role in The Hobbit where he voiced Smaug, a completely CGI’d dragon, and manage to give said character a prideful and sadistic personality. So really there’s no worry about him messing up in voice acting as the fear of the use of big name actors like in previous Illumination films . . . well except for the ones who have experience with voice acting like Steve Carell, Danny De Vito, Kristen Wiig, Jenny Slate, Nick Kroll, Seth Mc Farlane, and Trey Parker. Was gonna mention Kevin Hart and Ed Helm but they didn’t have any voice acting roles prior to the Illumination films they appear in; hey and those two happen to appear in my new favorite Dreamworks Movie Captain Underpants.

New trailer. (Sorry, don't know how to embed videos.)
How old is the "Screaming Goat" meme at this point?
"I shall not be foolish again, my dear Gwendolyn!"So he has a real reindeer this time around? I guess that's nicer to Max, but I don't know; if Max wasn't the dog doing everything for the Grinch, it would kind of make him pointless to the whole story. Why not just make Max a Reindeer if this is the route we're taking?
I dont think the reindeer is actually going to serve the Grinch. Its just a gag
: Got you covered.
Basically, you need to type in [[youtube: , the YouTube video's video ID (the weird jumble of letters and numbers), and two closed brackets.
You're welcome.
It feels weird that his lair is so brightly lit and clean.
It kind of looks like they're giving him a Freudian Excuse of sorts like the movie did, this time being an orphan.
... what is it with Universal and giving the Grinch a back story!?
Filler. The 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas!' Book is too short to be the sole basis of a movie (being 69 Pages, and 1355 Words, long). They have to create things to make the movie longer.

So don't effin make a movie of it. It's the same problem I have with all the Dr. Seuss movies.
This is the guy who voiced a damn dragon in The Hobbit films. I'm sure they cast him for a reason.
