Another of the Stock Phrases that is made up of Zero Context Examples.

Wick Check (100%)

I see 2 valid uses. Everything else lacks context. 1 example is already commented out on the work page.

We could send this back to TLP with a better name, as there is a trope here (getting caught eavesdropping and making an excuse to leave).

Just noticed that my thread did get opened. I'd like to get some feedback as to whether to cut this trope, or try to repair it.

Thoughts?

This page has also been around since 2009. It's totally not thriving.

Just cut it.

It has a page of examples. I think that's way too much to just cut for not having enough examples.

From the Cut List:

By the way, folks, this is the cutlist, not the "Needs More Work" list. Listing an article here should mean "We give up. This one can't be saved."

There is something salvageable from this page. I agree with sending it back to TRS.

[up] Do you mean TLP?

If so, I can get behind that.

It's kind of odd that the thread reason is "not tropeworthy" but the OP says this is a trope. Moreover, the OP's explanation of the trope is wrong. This isn't "someone gets caught eavesdropping and makes an excuse to leave"; it's "someone gets caught harassing someone, gets called out on it, and makes an excuse to leave the situation rather than fight." The specific example (as a thesis) implies that the harassed individual (a woman in the example) holds the real power in the social situation even though the harassing individual was acting as though he held all the power (hence why he was harassing her). The dissonance between the harasser's delusion of power and the reality of the situation is one of the reasons this can be funny.

That said, I also support this being sent back to TLP. The description needs to be fleshed out, and the name is a stockphrase besides. To say nothing of the example section needing revision.

I vote to send this back to TLP. The trope needs a better name and the description needs to be fleshed out because it is currently an Example as a Thesis that doesn't even define the trope properly.

It's a trope in my book. Seen it often. It's an easy way for writers to resolve a conflict situation between two characters when Get Out! is not an option.

While this is definitely a trope, it still needs a better name and description.
