Not sure what the point of aiming for "cute and colourful" images would be. It's not like it would demonstrate this anyway. Anime is cute and colourful, (for the most part) but it is not considered appropriate for children. (Again, for the most part.)

Eh, not too keen on that one. It's very blurry, and it doesn't really depict anything too terrible for kids.
My suggestion would be from the same game as 6, but instead with Dr. Eggman holding a gun towards Amy's head.

@5 BUPKIS? This page? Really? Seems like we have several decent ideas, all that's lacking is the execution.
Going along with the OP's Ganondorf-stabbed-in-the-forehead idea, this image was suggested for Family-Unfriendly Death back in 2011 (but AFAIK never used). Its quality leaves something to be desired, but we can always do a quality-upgrade later.

Because we want to demonstrate the "It's for kids" part of the title and colorful, kiddie-looking graphics tend to indicate that. Yes, it's not a 100% correlation but it's better than ignoring it altogether.

An illustrative non-example is leagues better than a non-illustrative example.
Is it any better than to leave it imageless, though? You're not supposed to include non-examples in the page, let alone use one as an image.

An image does not have to be an example. It does have to illustrate the trope. Being an example is a significant factor when deciding between images, though.

The administrivia page you're looking for is How to Pick a Good Image, which states: "the part of the page above the "examples" line is for explanation and related tropes, the part below is for examples. The image is above this line, unless it's too tall. Being the best/earliest example is not the same as conveying the trope to other people. The goal of an image is to Show, Don't Tell."

So its example calls this fight "infamous" but I have to say the image is... underwhelming.
I like that Kirby is in it so the game looks "For Kids," but the "What Do You Mean" part isn't there. There's a white orb. I would never think that's an eye. Or that it's apparently shooting blood? The rest of the description certainly sounds gory, so maybe something from there?
