@ lexicon

You mentioned that you deleted the Fate/stay night examples from the visual novel subpage of the Yandere page because they weren't "sweet outside, crazy inside".

However, if we go with such a stringent definition, then a lot of the examples currently on the various subpages wouldn't qualify. Say, for instance, Onigumo from Inuyasha (listed on the anime page), who was so obsessed with Kikiyo that he gave his body up to Yōkai and became Naraku, but couldn't be called sweet by any stretch of the word; the Venom symbiote (listed on the comic page), who saw Spider-Man as its soul mate and was obsessed with either killing or rebonding to him for thirty-or-so years and is frequently compared to a psychotic ex-girlfriend in-universe; Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader from Star Wars (listed on the film page), who turned to the Dark Side out of obsessive love for his wife, but can't really be called sweet; Tharja from Fire Emblem: Awakening (on the video-game page), who is obsessed with Robin but is more creepy than sweet; and even the protagonist of Yandere Simulator, who is described as being an Emotionless Girl who faked her way through life until she encountered and became obsessed with Senpai — wouldn't qualify since they're not sweet on the outside and crazy inside.

There are some examples that I find dubious, though, like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.

Yes, misuse in the yandere pages is a big problem.

Your leaning too hard on the 'sweet' part, its swapping between normalish 'affection' and outright 'psychotic'.

Anakin in Starwars 3 was very much Yandere in his decent into the darkside. Venom too however that heavily depended on the writer.

Sephiroth however... no, it is that only in the minds of Yaoi Fangirls.

[up] There has to be a line though. "Affection" isn't always "sweet". It could be "creepy" instead like some examples in the page. Was, say, Anakin really that lovey-dovey? I thought he actually isn't that affectionate towards Padme, only obsessed in her?

There's at least the supertrope Mad Love which covers obsession (especially for less-than-sweet ones).

We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love.
