We had to live in caves and become hermits, reading books over and over again and carefully noting down all the recurring story elements and character-building conventions! And since we lived in caves, we have to make the ink from slugs that we crushed with our bare hands!

Back in my day, we had to walk to the dungeon. It was up a hill through 10 feet of snow. You were lucky if Ma would let you borrow a steak knife, or if you could sneak off with the firewood axe. Then you'd go through the dang thing, and do your best not to get eaten by Kobolds or booby traps, and kill the dragon with your steak knife. Then you'd go back through the dungeon again and back to town. It was up a hill through 10 feet of snow.
