Just a Face and a Caption: The Kirk

Great picture of the Trope Namer, but doesn't do anything for anyone not familiar with Star Trek.

Opened. That being said, until this, The Spock, and The McCoy get renames (which I highly doubt will happen), I'm good to stick with the current.

As per the trope decscription:

Rounding out the archetypal Freudian Trio with The Spock and The McCoy, The Kirk must balance these opposing personalities while being able to take their advice and choose between them (or literally, choose "between them") without being overcome either by emotion or dispassionate logic, representing what in Freudian psychology is called the ego.

The image clearly shows Kirk between the other two, working as a middleman and giving both of them thumbs up. So it's not pure JAFAAC, at least it shows the "mediator" part of the trope, if not the "ego" part.

Looking at the The Spock and The McCoy pages too, I think only The McCoy is clearly JAFAAC, with the image providing no extra information. If it was an image of him treating the sick or something, that'd be a better illustration.

The shots of McCoy being a doctor aren't what the trope's about; The McCoy is about the emotion-driven character who argues against the cold logic of The Spock. We need a pic of him arguing with Spock or Jim or just having an obvious emotional display for it to really be effective.

Images of McCoy talking with someone, though not quite as obviously emotional as those prior: [4]◊, [5]◊, [6]◊, [7]◊

Image of McCoy accidentally overdosing on cordrazine and screaming "MURDERERS! ASSASSINS!": [8]

I dunno. I think I prefer one of the "McCoy paired with somebody" images - maybe the last one (7), where he's looking annoyed with Spock, as usual.

Keep current for The Kirk.

Of those, this◊ and this◊ are best...I prefer the latter.

7.7 is good . As for the caption, maybe we can use the dialog from that scene.

Yeah, one of those is an improvement. Just not sure which one.

7.7 is the best of those for me, he's leaning over laboratory equipment while seemingly clashing with Spock (who looks appropriately stoic).

I'll go with 7.7 for The McCoy. I think the image on The Kirk should be kept.

We've got 5 solid s for 7.7 and one maybe...I'd say if 7.7 gets one or two more definite s we can run with it. I've tagged The Kirk for the pic keep.

I'll upgrade that "maybe" to "sure, that one works".

As for a caption, something like "Now you listen to me, you pointy-eared hobgoblin!" or whatever the dialogue for that actual scene is, would possibly work.

Actually, I think the current caption can be reused verbatim. Arguably works better with 7.7 than it does the current image.

Hmmmm...good point.

At any rate, we have the 7 votes required to change the image, so I went ahead and put 7.7 onto The McCoy - tagging the page, but keeping the old caption, for now, while we potentially further discuss it. Did crop out some dead space on the right; figure nobody will mind the tighter crop, there's still plenty of doctor stuff in the frame if that was desirable.
