Zero Escape: A Magical Game of Betrayal and Intrigue Sign-ups

Long ago, when there was nothing by a black voice, the Nine Gods blew Nine Bubbles through a microscopic ring, and from this ring sprang all live and the Nine Planets. These Nine Planets contained all known life in the universe, from the most colossal giant, to the small insect. Each planet had a rich, diverse ecosystem, creatures of all shapes and sizes, and different levels of technology within.

Over many millennia, and countless wars and treaties, peace was eventually struck between most of the planets, and a new age, born out of the copulation of Magic and Science had begun. The races worked together, the Humans, the Elves, the Orcs, and all their intelligent counterparts determined to conquer the stars. And that they did. They built great massive ships to travel to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. They found nothing. Few great mysteries were solved, and few new races were discovered. More wars were fought over territory of planets, and most returned home.

In the modern age, six of the Nine Planets were allied, and their races maintained friendly relations. The people on these planets live their lives, more secrets and dark dealing are made on a daily basis, and the wonders that fill the universe continued to grow. One such person was Lady Durga. Once a lowly and poor human alchemist, she made measly coin peddling her potions. She was impoverished, but she had a gift, possessing a genius-level expertise in the arcane and mystical. A grow desire for wealth and recognition led her to probe further into the Dark Arts for power. In her later years, she became a recluse, constructing a massive mansion, notorious among the Nine Planets. She would never leave, and would take no visitors, only sending out large supplies of her potions to companies and conglomerates once every few years. Rumors swelled about Durga and her illustrious home. It was said to have many magical pathways and floors, stairs that led to floors they shouldn't, and rooms with no way in or out. It was said that she would kidnap people and use them for her mad experiments and rituals to cavort with demons and forgotten Old Gods. Stranger still, as decades and decades past, the mansion grew larger and larger, more rooms and floors and modern architecture being added onto it, but no construction was ever seen.

And the strangest mystery of all was when one day, it vanished. Completely disappeared as if it was never there.

Howdy, everyone! Welcome to a new RP. This one is going to be a little different. A unique type of game in something of a familiar setting. This RP will have no combat, instead relying on player interaction, exploration, and puzzle-solving. It's inspired by the likes of Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors, Virtues Last Reward, Dangan Ronpa, and any other Room Escape Game you can think of. But with a fantasy twist added onto the Sci-Fi. Like those games, the story itself will have serious and sometimes quite dark themes, but the interactions between the player characters will often by just as humorous as they are serious.

It takes place in a the realm of the Nine Planets, among the common fantasy races, and all the uncommon ones of sentience, living in a Near Future realm of commerce, fashion, pop culture, and magic abound. It's a colorful world field with mysteries. One unique thing about it is that none of the magic is innate inside you, and is all item, potion and artifact based. So no one can just do magic out of nothing. That allows the game to stay out of combat.

The story will be, in part, determined by the players. Instead of including your character's backstory in their sheet, you will PM it to me, so that it will remain a secret. I will then take all the backstories of the players and combine them into a cohesive narrative so that every player is important to the plot.

The main point of the game is this. Nine players will wake up with no memory of how they got there. They will have a magical necklace around their neck, with no way to remove it. There is an exit, hidden somewhere in the mansion. The players will often be broken up into small groups, exploring the mansion and solving the puzzles within to escape rooms and solve not only the mysteries of the mansion, but also of how they got there. They also of course need to find the exit. But here's the catch. In order to open the door to the exit, you need 9 Points counted on your magical necklace. Only when someone has 9 points will the exit unlock, and only someone with 9 points may go through the exit. Points will be traded around in this game, thanks to betrayal and allies. If you drop to 0 points, you will be heavily penalized...

How do you gather points? Well, you'll find out...

Remember, this is a game of player interaction, puzzle-solving and exploration. You need to bring the chops for this one. There are only 9 slots, and characters will be accepted based on uniqueness and good writing. I'd really like no dropouts here, but if it happens, a new player could in theory be put into the game.

Signups

Remember, anything and everything can be a potential secret. Try to make colorful, interesting characters.

• Name: What name will you character go by to the other characters? Not necessarily their true name.
• Age: What age do they appear to be?
• Gender: What sex do they appear to be? This could also be a secret.
• Species: Human, Elf, Orc, etc? Stick to generally humanoid races. I will allow ONE TO TWO robotic characters, and if you want to do this, please PM me and DO NOT list your character as a robot. Just list the species they appear to be.
• Appearance: You'll most likely be wearing the same outfit your whole time here, so describe that too, or use a picture. It's the near-future, so it should be regular and futuristic fashion, slightly on the more anime side of things.
• Personality: For now, only say the personality that they will portray to others, and leave potential hidden or ulterior motives that we will discuss in PM. The RP will be in an third-person format that IS NOT omniscient.
• Skills: Use your discretion, because some of this might be secrets. Just list the general abilities and hobbies that you know your character to have.

And the things to PM to me:

Background: Remember, PM me your character's background, and any other secret info such as a true name, age, species, true personality, etc. Make these really unique and colorful. Remember, this setting is near-limitness for a reason. Try to air on the side of surprise and shock. These elements of your character could even be a secret to them if you so wish. I will allow some characters to have amnesia.

Wish: If your character was given one wish, to have absolutely anything in the universe, power, wealth, fame, love, any kind of item or ability or thing, or change the universe in any way they wish, what would it be? Remember, don't put it in your public sheet, PM it to be with the other secret stuff.

Expressing my interest, for now Im trying to think up of a character to play.

Definitely interested. As it's so character based it'll probably take me longer than usual to get the sheet written up and I'm not sure about some ideas but I'll definitely try something for this.

Are there any humanoid races that are a no-go?

As long as they can die, and are near human size, you're good to go.

Okay-doke. Question two: how commonplace is travel between the Nine Planets? Can anyone hop in their spacecraft and get stuck in space traffic, or is it a rarer commodity?

It's akin to buying a ticket to a foreign country. Having your own spaceship would be like having a private jet.

So, wait. This may be obvious to other people, and probably the point, but isn't Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors already part of the Zero Escape Series? Also, this RP clearly has the same arc number, so it's as though this is trying to be apart of the Zero Escape series. But in a Fantasy setting. With demons and alchemy and SPACESHIPS.

I'm using a similar motif to the Zero Escape series, including the Number 9 and the Ambidex game. But yeah, it's a science fantasy setting.

I'm interested in this, here's my character sheet, and I'll PM the other details:

• Name: Al Randolph

• Age: 22

• Gender: Male

• Species: Lupine Human, a man with an amalgamation of wolf traits

• Appearance: Around 6 feet tall and broad shouldered with heavily tanned skin. He has short, dark, grey and black hair with specks of white in it, and a set of pointed wolf ears of the same color positioned at the sides of his head. His teeth are sharper than average, and his eyes are yellow and almost beady in quality. His nails are sharp like claws, and he has a dark grey wolf’s tail. He wears a deep blue peaked cap◊ that snugly fits his head, and a white dress shirt and blue tie with thick black pants connected to criss crossed belts that act like suspenders. He wears black leather shoes and a dark blue trench coat with the collar popped up over his suit. He has another thick belt around his waist with hooks to attach items to. The lower half of his face and his neck is covered by a dark blue cloth mask.

• Personality: Rough and short tempered, though his face and body language are so controlled that his emotions tend to only show when they’re extreme. The only consistent tells he has are his ears and tail positions. He’s prone to making low growls and snarls when pissed, and is very persistent when pursuing things he finds suspicious. Despite his large figure and other unpleasant traits, he comes off as intelligent and street smart in conversation.

• Skills: Sharper senses of smell and hearing, firearms training, and general tracking knowledge. A decent cook and big game hunter.

• Name: Atlas Birch
• Age: 22
• Gender: M
• Species: Half-Elf
• Appearance: Atlas is built as lightly as any other Elf. He has large almond-shaped eyes, dark skin also the color of an almond, and a prominent, rounded nose. His hair is dark brown and drapes down to his shoulders, with his ears poking out of it. He wears a long-sleeved tracksuit with a dark blue top and black pants, and a watch on his right wrist. He has a bunch of shaving cuts along his chin, neck, and down the sides of his face.
• Personality: Atlas tries to keep a very outgoing "executive" attitude about him. He shakes hands firmly, looks people in the eye, and never talks about religion or politics. When he talks to people he always tries to put conversation on them, getting a good idea about them before saying anything about himself or his own opinions.
• Skills: He's got a good head for memorization and solid elocution and communication skills.

• Name: Avery Roach
• Age: 18
• Gender: Male
• Species: Human
• Appearance: Avery is 5’10” with a wiry build and a little lean muscle but ultimately looks unremarkable. He’s perpetually scruffy, with a mop of greasy black hair and a long fringe often covering one of his dull grey eyes and a small patch of scraggly facial hair. He has a few scars around his body, most visibly a long scar running diagonally across the side of his face that cuts his left eyebrow in half, as well as a large raven tattoo on his back. In terms of clothing he seems to only wear black and at the time of the incident is wearing a pretty mundane outfit; jeans, a t-shirt and a hoodie, as well as combat boots. Contrasting the rest of his basic apparel is a chain around his neck with an eye ornament set with an onyx gem.
• Personality: Avery is withdrawn and secretive but not to an obnoxious extent; he knows that in order to succeed in life he has to interact with other people but he doesn’t enjoy it and tends to accentuate the negative. He’s normally on edge but will let his guard down on the rare occasions he enjoys himself.
• Skills: Avery’s unusually dexterous and a good mechanic, able to work with machines mundane or magical. He’s not smart academically but is particularly good with numbers.

• Name: Lan Tar'Yanr
• Age: Hard to tell. She says she's in her seventies.
• Gender: Female? Goes by she/her anyways.
• Species: Lizardfolk.
• Appearance: Sword not included.◊
• Personality: Calm, quiet, always a little wary of others. Amiable enough, though her blunt nature can be a turn-off. She's not one for small talk, as her human vocabulary isn't great. It can be hard to judge how she's feeling since her way of expressing herself varies so wildly from more human races, and she doesn't often show strong emotion.
• Skills: She has knowledge and experience with magic that far surpasses that of a human, particularly in regards to old runic magic. Also has all the physical perks of being a giant-ass lizardwoman; enhanced endurance, strength, and defense, and protection against harsh climates.

• Name: Ailen Mallaray
• Age: 28
• Gender: Female
• Species: Elf
• Appearance: 6 feet tall with an athletic build, brown skin. She has her deliberately messy dark brown shoulder length hair with most of the tips dyed in red. She usually wears a dark red tank top and a pair of darkened ripped jeans hold up with a studded belt and a dream catcher tied into one of the belt loops at her right side. She also wears a headband with a feather at her right ear, perfectly framing her brown eyes.
• Personality: She is a very rowdy type of person but also very open-minded. She'll laugh and joke if such opportunities present itself. Despite this, though, if she found that the conversation steered into topics too uncomfortable for her or just prolonged loner than she would have like, she will excuse herself and relax by herself, any further provocations will be met with occasional grumbles and a stink eye.

  • Riding bicycles. You name it; BMX, cross-countries, races, she can do them all.

• Species: Human
• Appearance: Fiona is a tall woman at 6'2, with long red hair tied into a ponytail that reaches just over her rear. She wears a white suit and gold tie under a white longcoat with a large gold cross covering the back. She wears a holster carrying a gold gun on either side, both of which are hidden under the longcat.
• Personality: Fiona is what you'd call the life of the party. She's fiery, rambunctious, playful, and full of energy and life, but she's also quite sweet and caring as well. She's also generally very calm and considerate, though she can become quite ornery if pushed, and she will put a cap in your ass if necessary.
• Skills: Fiona is an incredible markswoman. Anything you want her to shoot, just name it, and she'll be almost guaranteed to hit it. She's also well-versed in survival skills such as first aid, CPR, foraging for food, etc., She's also quick on her feet, and possesses almost cat-like agility, all of which makes her well prepared for whatever may come her way.
  • Aside from that, she can be quite instinctual, almost to the point of having a sixth sense. She often has a good feeling about whether something's dangerous or not quite right, even if she isn't sure why. She's also an avid fan of action and sci-fi/fantasy movies, tv, and comic-books, and also plays videogames from time to time as well.

• Gender: M
• Species: Half-Dwarf
• Appearance: 5 feet tall, somewhat stocky. Blue eyes, strong chin, no scars, and a fairly pleasing look, at least for someone with dwarven blood. Short, blonde hair. Has 5 o-Clock shadow, with a long goatee that has somehow been pierced at the end. He wears jeans and a blue t-shirt with yellow stripes at the sides under a white fur hoodie. His yellow boots also have a white fur trim.
• Personality: He sees things in Black and White, and always leans towards seeing in White. He tries to be kind and supportive and dependable and self-sacrificing to those around him, within reason. But never to those who cross him.
• Skills: He practices with a Longsword as a hobby, and is a skilled locksmith, despite his stature. Very strong, trustworthy and dependable.
