And hory shet, I need to get my guys' info on here. I had a bit of a writer's high so to say, and I actually got a lot of these two's backstory worked out today, as well as some details for some other potential characters.

Sorry for taking so long with this. I'm mostly just trying to figure out some suitable backstories. Related to that, did you have in mind any specific way for the obtaining of a Soul Augmenter? Like if they manisfest under specific conditions or if someone has get them from someone else? It would really help me with the backstory of one of my proposed characters if you could give a little more information. I know that due to the very nature of this game, that there's nothing too defined, but if you could offer a few possibilities, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Name: Parker Menkho
  • Race: White Wolf (Forever Beast)
  • Appearance: He stands at 6' 5", easily towering over his little brother. His fur is also longer than his brother's, long enough that he's fashioned some of the fur on his head into a ponytail, tied back with a length of black ribbon. He wears a thin, red vest that doesn't even extend to his midriff and a pair of simple, brown pants held up by a tan belt. Finally, his physical structure is much like that of a wolf standing upright, with more functional "hands" and digitigrade hind paws.
  • Personality: He's a very peppy and eager individual, seldom seen without a smile on his face. He's also very slow to anger. However, he thrives on a sense of direction, and leaving him to his own devices can overwhelm him very quickly.
  • Abilities & Skills:
    • Having climbed with his friends while he was still enlisted in Nieva's armed forces, he's quite skilled at it, able to scale cliff-faces and mountains easily.
    • Also, because of his military upbringing, he's very physically adept, able to lift at least 200 lbs over his head and can knock three assailants out with a single punch. (And yes, both of those he's done before, though the latter he did only once.)
    • He's also taken up a number of hobbies like needlework and "small-smithing", both of which he applies to his field of treasure hunting to keep the treasures he's collected in tip-top shape, though both of those skills he learned, once again, from his military training.
    • Finally, his younger brother has taught him a bit of magic, though his expertise is limited to small-scale energic conjurings, like fire and cold, and it's only for utility's sake.
Inventory:
  • He carries two ice picks with him, and while he'd prefer not to, he's not above using them as weapons.
  • He also has a magical lantern, which he lights, of course, with magic and can stay on indefinitely, perfect for exploring caverns and tunnels.
  • Most everything else he has he carries within a small bag of holding, though that's mostly limited to food and first aid. Treasure and ore hunting is treacherous business, my friends.
Backstory:
  • Growing up in the village of Nieva, he joined the military at a young age. In a war with Farmsby, a neighboring village of bears, over a stretch of land, he was put in charge of a village smack dab in the middle of it. However, due to his horrible decision making, the land was lost, and the village scorned him. Wanting to keep that from happening again, he sought to have a mentor with everything he did, which worked all the way until he started wanting that from his girlfriends (and one boyfriend), which only drove most of them away.
  • However, one day, a mysterious person from Mysteria by the name of Madrid Lunfreya came to the village and helped Parker out of an emotional slump. However, soon, she began to demand he "run errands" for her which ranged from mildly suspicious to rather unscrupulous, and with the constant abuse from her as well as the town slowly turning against him once again, Parker was beginning to settle back into that same slump. However, his brother, Griffin, found out about Madrid's plans for the town (weakening it to the point where Farmsby could take their land) and drove Madrid away at gunpoint. Struck with grief, he went after her, though Griffin lied to him about where she went so he wouldn't find her again.
  • This ended up being a mistake, and after a run-in with the citizens of Farmsby, he was rescued from near-death by none other than Griffin, who took him back to Nieva. However, the townsfolk wanted nothing to do with him and chased him off again. About a month later, he met up with Griffin and asked him to help him find Madrid. Griffin originally declined, but he changed his mind, and the two left by the next morning.
  • After going through a few storybooks, they eventually settled in the Citadel of Fate and the Snow Wastes, setting up a shop and commuting to the Wastes to hunt for treasures and ores. They've even set up a service to locate the possessions of loved ones who've died in the treacherous wastes.

James: It is certainly a pretty erratic deal. You can stumble across them, some wacko hands them out cuz reasons, or heck even selling them in a store. I can also say some Augmenters are held within museums as tribute. Oh, and what an Augmenter draws on is relatively random (i.e player decided), so doubling up on Augmenters for new powers is a thing. Regarding specific conditions though, sometimes an Augmenter will just appear before someone. No one is quite sure why, but there's plenty of suspicion directed to these Augmenters by those believe it was Author Chi.

Anolis: Looking good so far, but could their mention more about the shop & their treasure hunter reputation?

[up] Thanks for that!grin I'll have to keep that bit about doubling up on Augmenters for new powers in mind. I'm thinking about having a Barrier Warrior + Healing Hands combo for the first one and probably something like Heart Beat-Down for a later one.

And I think I will go with the first one just appearing before my character. That should get a fair bit of interesting reactions from Mysteria NPCs.

And I promise to get the profiles for my first two characters up no later than tomorrow.

Alright, second character coming up, and since he's Parker's brother, this profile will exposit more on their shop.

  • Name: Griffin Menkho
  • Race: White Wolf (Forever Beast)
  • Appearance: Only about half his brother's size, standing at 3' 5", Griffin also has shorter, more ragged fur than Parker's. Griffin is mostly seen wearing a maroon-colored tunic with a golden belt suspending it. He also has a charm necklace, which his father supposedly found with Griffin when his mother left him at his father's doorstep. Body structure is the same as Parker's; erect posture with hands that are a cross between a human's and a "normal" wolf's and digitigrade legs.
  • Personality: On the outside, Griffin seems like your typical no-nonsense kinda guy; always serious and hard-headed, expects a lot out of everyone, and will very easily cast you aside if you so much as look at him funny. However, under that businessman facade is a precocious child who loves small talk and board games. Unfortunately, it can be a little hard for him to actually get people to like-like him rather than ally with him out of fear. What's more, he isn't really the most open with his feelings, not unless you're Parker or one of his friends from Nieva.
  • Abilities and Skills:
    • Griffin has a knack for haggling and manipulating others. While his intentions aren't evil but more selfish, he's still got a silver tongue, trained and refined all the way from primary school. In fact, he'd almost prefer it to using weapons if his trusty shotgun wasn't so much of an intimidation factor.
    • Speaking of, Parker and Griffin would go hunting from time to time, but Griffin, surprisingly, ended up with the better trigger finger. Wielding a sawed-off shotgun he received from the shop's cashier, Shinji, as a present, he's saved both himself and Parker from loads of trouble with it, from falling walls of ice to scheming criminal customers to monsters of all shapes and sizes.
    • Ever since he found a spellbook back in the Midnight Palace, where they spent their first month of treasure hunting before leaving for safer Storybooks, Griffin has taken up the art of magic, and so far, he's been able to conjure up medium-scale energic spells and enchantment spells. However, he's also taken an interest in spells that manipulate one's emotional state and interpret information, hoping to use these spells as a basis for learning the very same weapon Madrid used to toy with Parker: mind reading.
  • Inventory:
    • Griffin's sawed-off shotgun decorates his backside, hanging off a strap over his shoulder. A pouch for ammunition hangs on the same side the shotgun hangs from, filled with ammunition of various kinds, though not too much.
    • He also carries his spellbook with him from time to time, but never on expeditions. They have been known to lose treasures in accidents, and losing what is to him such a valuable asset and prized possession would be devastating for him. Plus, he gets the feeling it's truly one-of-a-kind; he's found nothing like it in any libraries or bookstores he's visited.
    • Like Parker, he too carries a small bag of holding, though again it's limited to food and first aid.
    • Finally, to keep Parker from getting too much stress from climbing, he's agreed to be the pack mule, carrying another, larger bag of holding reserved for treasures. Sometimes, on the most fruitful of days, you can even see the red marks on his skin through the matted down fur on his shoulders.
  • Backstory:
    • Born from a one-night stand from a mother he never knew or met, he's hated his father ever since he could understand the concept of hate. However, what arguably gave him a tougher time were all the bullies that swarmed in after his brother lost the fort in the no-man's land...that is, until in a moment of pure, unadulterated kid rage, he took a good number of them down before being knocked out himself.
    • Shocked by the incident, his teachers tried to teach him a diplomatic approach to dealing with bullies...and, well, now you know where he got that silver tongue of his. However, while he was happy to not have any more bullies on his back, he always had the feeling his school friends only "liked" him out of fear, leading to a bit of self-resentment that lasted up until he left with Parker for braver frontiers.
    • Surprisingly, after being the money-man when Parker took up factory work in Mechanus and tanning and farmwork in Albion, it was Parker himself who suggested the treasure hunting business, though Griffin still wonders if the business is meant to draw in Madrid somehow. Their first foray into treasure hunting was really just them hanging out at the Midnight Palace and seeing what sort of crap floating their way, and it being the Midnight Palace, all the crap they found was good at worst. While business was booming, they hired a cashier and inventory guy, Shinji Atawalla, and a dedicated smith to help refurbish the treasures named Faen Decargas. However, while it did turn a good profit, Griffin ultimately decided it was time to leave Midnight Palace as the actual treasure hunting became boring while all the strange and hostile creatures they come across became too much of a risk to deal with.
    • After a brief foray into Grimyard, they finally settled in digging in the mountainous expanses of the Snow Wastes. Another connection was forged with one of the village elders, a Yuki-Onna by the name of Tia Lua Viti, and with help from guides and sherpas, they were able to find ruins and even dig into the mountains themselves to locate for themselves all sorts of treasure. Griffin actually came up with the "heirloom recovery" service after a customer sought an old keepsake his father had on his person when he died in the Snow Wastes. (The fact that said father was killed by a gang, the treasure was a piece of a sound weapon, and they almost got caught in a gang war didn't deter Griffin from dropping the service.) Even after so many hardships, business goes steady as it has been for these past few months, with a loyal consumer base to fill in whatever cracks they may have from time to time...

Name: Thule Narciel

Race: Human (Albion)

Appearance: Thule is quite tall, fair skinned, and has quite neatly kept blonde hair. His eyes are different colors, one white, and one blue. He normally wears a white trench coat, with a blue shirt underneath. He also wears a white pair of loose fitting trousers and white and blue sneakers. He's lithe, with the barest hints of well toned muscle.

Personality: Cool, detached and stoic, Thule is a man of few words and many gestures. However, despite his demeanour, he is intensely devoted to doing what's right. He's protective, and not prone to anger. He has an intense devotion to close friends, like his adoptive sister Fawnia. He carries himself with discipline and precision. A smile from his is a rarer sight than anything.

Abilities & Skills:

  • Body Magic: Thule is a master of Body magic. He's easily able to reinforce his muscles and muscle memory reflexes. Using this, attacks that could knock a normal human back won't even make him flinch. He's also able to take damage done physically and use it to charge up the power of his next physical attack. He's able to free his body from most physical debilitations, like paralysis and poison by purging his body of them. On a side note, he's also able to make a loud Knuckle Cracking with it.

  • Spiritual/Light Magic:Thule is also able to use his spirit as a weapon, be it a blast of inner energy or focusing and heightening his perception. He's also capable of healing wounds by laying his hands on someone.

  • Unarmed combat:Thule does not know how to handle weapons, so he's devoted his training to be a living weapon. He's extremely skilled in a close quarters fight, being a defensive fighter who relies on evasion and blocking, followed by a precise counterattack. Even without magic, he's still quite strong, for a human.

  • Water Magic:He knows a bit, though he's not really able to weaponize it that well. He can manipulate water and conjure blasts, but it's more for support than anything else. Also helps when his sister sets fire to things.

Inventory:

  • An as-of-yet unnamed book he's writing, using his travels with his sister as inspiration.

  • A pair of fingerless gloves for when he fights. He doesn't need them, he just doesn't like getting blood on his knuckles.

Backstory: Born in Albion, Thule led a relatively active life. He was strong, but not stupid, and focused on becoming both strong and wise, hoping to one day be King.

However, his parents moved to Earthland when he was around 10, and adopted a young girl from Mysteria. Thule immediately formed a close bond with Fawnia, protecting her from those in Earthland who viewed her with disdain on account of her magical powers of fire and darkness. He was her protector, closest friend and most understanding confidant. The stoic older brother, and his energetic, friendly sister. Quite a sight, and people knew better than to try and hurt his sister with him around.

When both their parents passed away while he and Fawnia were in their twenties, they decided that they'd travel the worlds and see things they'd never seen before. Thule decided to write a book based on them, though entirely fictional. So, they are currently at the Citadel of Fate, preparing to travel to other Storybooks.


Name: Fawnia Narciel

Race: Human (Mysteria)

Appearance: Fawnia is tall, like her adoptive brother, as well as lithe, though this is from being naturally quite thin. Her one eye is red, and the other black. Her hair is black, with red highlights that she's dyed in. While the top of her hair is relatively straight, the hair reaching down to her back is slightly more curly. Fawnia wears a black jacket and pair of jeans, with a red shirt and pair of sneakers.

Personality: Fawnia is a friendly, easygoing person. Despite a life of distrust from the people of Earthland because of her outward magical powers, she still doesn't hold grudges against anyone. She's energetic, and always extremely curious, which often gets her into trouble. Still, underneath her cheery exterior, she's really quite vulnerable to not being accepted by people, and it brings her no small amount of an inferiority complex. She's also a very clingy person, growing attached to her friends and family quite quickly.

Abilities & Skills:

  • Fire Magic: Fawnia is an expert in the use of all fire-based magic. She's capable of creating extremely hot flames, and can manipulate existing flames as well as conjuring them out of thin air. Her most powerful feat is the ability to create a large, white-hot firestorm.

  • Darkness Magic" Fawnia is also adept with the use of darkness, which she sometimes uses in conjunction with her flames to create dark fire, a fire that is far more painful and slows down or even nullifies healing and regeneration. She's able to make constructs out of darkness, as well as firing them off offensive spells with it. Of course, this also works better in the dark. While she's in darkness, Fawnia is able to go invisible by cloaking herself in it.

  • Healing Magic: Fawnia has a basic understanding of healing magics. She's mostly able to heal severe wounds at best. She can work with her brother to heal more dangerous wounds, but this requires physical contact from both of them on the target.

Inventory:

  • A pine wand. She doesn't need it, but it serves as a focus, and to quote "It smells nice.".

  • She has a small pouch of money for travelling.

  • A necklace, from her time in Mysteria. It provides a boost to her fire and dark magic.

Backstory: Originally from Mysteria, Fawnia was orphaned at a young age when her parents simply vanished without a trace. She spent a short time in an orphanage before the Narciel family adopted her. She then spent the rest of her life growing up in Earthland, to no small amount of distrust towards the 'witch'. It was because of this that her close bond with her adoptive brother was formed.

Fawnia doesn't care much about her past. She's perfectly fine with her life as it is now, and how it has always been as part of the Narciel family. The loss of her adoptive parents was a huge shock and source of grief to her. In fact, she was the one who insisted that the siblings should go on the journey to help clear her mind and see the world. Thule, of course, would never refuse. She's currently with him at the Citadel of Fate.

Aster Aingrav

Race: Human (Albion)

Appearance: He has short red hair and hazel eyes. He's also quite muscular and tall. While out in the field, he wears a magically inhanced suit of armor that he forged while working back in his family's mage-smith shop. When not expecting to get in a fight, he wears a black leather coat and black pants.

He also always has his Mage-Blades, Ignis and Raiken, Ignis looks like a black metallic sword hilt, which has a large round gem embedded in it while Raiken looks similar but has a golden, diamond-like gem instead.

Personality: Aster has an uncanny ability to make a funny comment and cheer people up no matter how dark things get. He’s dedicated to keeping his friends safe no matter what.

However, he can also be somewhat hot-headed and a little too eager to get into fights and show off elaborate moves. Additionally, he can be very blunt when speaking, and tends to put his foot in his mouth often.

Ignis behaves very similarly to his master, being appropriately very hot-heated and far too eager to get Aster into a fight.

By contrast, Raiken is far more calm and level-headed, always trying curb Aster's impulsive tendencies and get him to be more strategic before entering into battle.

Abilities & Skills: Swordsmanship - Aster is very adept at using both of his Mage-Blades at the same time, being able to pull off various elaborate combos using their elemental blades.

Mage-Smithmanship: Being born to a family of mage-smiths and having worked extensively in the family's shop before leaving to look for adventure, he's quite adept at the art of making weapons and armor and inhancing their capabilities with magic. He was the one who forged Ignis, Raiken and his armor.

Fire Magic - The most common way that he uses his control of fire is through Ignis, which is attuned to this part of Aster's magic and can thus project a blade made of pure flame. He can also throw small fireballs and launch fire from Ignis with his slashes.

Thunder Magic - Raiken is attuned to part of Aster's magic and can thus project a blade of electricity. Aster can throw small bolts of lightning and launch electricity from Raiken with his slashes. He can also use this magic to induce electromagnetism to control and launch small metallic objects as well as Raiken himself at the enemy.

Inventory: Armor - A full suit of heavy black metal, inhanced with magic to withstand even more damage and be quite resistant to both fire and electricity.

He also carries a large leather pouch, filled with various metallic supplies, which can use to either forge and repair gear or as weapons in battle. He also carries small metallic spheres and disks as well as needles specifically for the purpose of using them to attack enemies.

Backstory: He was born in a large city located in Albion. His parents practiced the art of mage-smithmanship and owned a shop where they sold magically inhanced weapons and armors, specializing in the creation of Mage-Blades, weapons embedded with magical crystals capable of creating their own souls and that usually posess blades made of pure magic. Aster worked in the shop ever since he was a young teenager but once he became an adult, he decided he would rather roam the worlds and getting adventures. He forged his current gear and fulfilled his wish, eventually ending up in the Citadel of Fate.

Name: Lumina Ixpellys

Race: Elf (Mysteria)

Appearance: Normal - she has shoulder lenght, fine blond hair, bright green eyes and long and pointed ears. She often wears plain white robes and wears her Soul Augmenter in the form of a small, shield-shaped crystal necklace.

Transformed - When she transforms with the use of her Soul Augmenter, her robes become much more elaborated, with small crystals shaped like her Soul Augmenter embedded through most of it's surface. Her Soul Augmenter turns into a medium sized, hard crystal round shield, which she wears on her left arm.

Personality: Lumina is a naturally kind and cheerful girl that is always willing to help and protect others. She would rather not get in any sort of fight by herself, but if someone else is in danger, she'll do whatever she can with her powers to keep them from harm.

However, due to often being shunned back home due to her low natural magical potential and her use of her mysterious Soul Augmenter , she tends to be rather meek, socially anxious and shy. It is hard for her to ever say no to anyone, and thus she can rather easy to push around. It is also hard for her to get emotionally close to people without her happiness becomong enmeshed with those of others, and if she unable to help them she tends to become quite depressed.

Abilities & Skills: Defensive Magic - By herself and untransformed, she can only form weak barriers around her body, which only mitigate slightly more damage that would take than without any protection. She does have through knowledge of such spells and with use of her Soul Augmenter, she can cast much more powerful defensive spells, such as large energy shields or barriers covering herself and/or others. These spells seem to have the quirk of being much more stronger when used to protect other rather than just herself.

She can also supply variable amounts of her boosted mana back to her Soul Augmenter in order to strengthen its defensive capabilities. While transformed, her magic naturally inhances the defenses of her robes, allowing both them and herself to withstand much more damage than otherwise.

Healing Magic - Without her Soul Augmenter, she can only instantly heal minor wounds and very slowly regenerate major ones. She posesses an extensive understanding of this kind of magic due to coming from a family of Healers, who tried to teach her their art despite her decencies in magic. With her magic boosted by her transformation, she can quickly heal more serious wounds and some diseases and allow for quicker regeneration in both herself and others. Like with her defensive magic, this usually works a whole lot better when used to heal others.

Support Magic - She can transfer her own mana to another magic user in order to power up their spells, as well casting spells to boost existing capabilities or enchant them with various effects.

Medicinal Knowledge - Since she's only effective at healing with magic while transformed, which tends to tire her out after a while, she has picked up fairly decent knowledge of herbal medicine, knowing to use both magical herbs and potions in order to treat wounds and several diseases.

Inventory: Soul Augmenter - A magical crystal that allows her to transform and use a much greater ammount of mana than she would be naturally able to. This item mysterious appeared before her one day.

Spell Books - Her family gave a healing spell book as a parting gift and she managed to find one on defensive magic and another on support magic while on her travels.

Medicinal Pouch - she carries a large leather pouch. filled with all sorts of magical herbs and potions in order to deal with various sorts of ailments.

Backstory: Lumina was born to a family of Healers in a small elf village. Due to her unusually low magical capabilities and later on due to the mysterious appearence of her Soul Augmenter, which many believed was due to the workings of Author Chi, she often ended up being shunned by those outside her immediate family. Her parents tried to shield from this as best as they could, but it only got worse as she grew up and so it was with a sad heart that they watched her finally leave, hoping to find acceptance somewhere else. She roamed throught the land of Mysteria and through other worlds, before finding herself in the Citadel of Fate, where she currently resides.

At least daily. Possibly multiple times a day, depending on how active everyone my characters are currently interacting with are.

Just finished my profiles. Hope everything is OK with them.

Like Yome, I should be able to post at least couple times a day, mostly in the early afternoon and late evening, if everyone else in the scenes my character are in are also posting fairly regularly.
