I'll grant that the second game was a bit more like Mario in regards to level design (which was problematic when Bubsy controlled more like Sonic), but the first owed so much to Sonic (down to the many side paths you could pursue), it hurt.
Funny thing is, I think a revival could work. In a world where the original series hadn't come out, I bet this would be greeted about the same way as Shovel Knight.
If nothing else, Bubsy could tack to new adventures in his first game's style and get by on that.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I don't even think Bubsy needs to be self-aware. He just needs a bit of variety or even brevity with his puns.
I love puns, and if I had the means to buy this I'd buy it for the puns. But there are painful puns, and I don't know if Bubsy goes for them, but maybe a limited focus on fur and paw puns would be good. Not eradicating them completely, but focusing more on an enemy or situation rather than relying on "That jump was purr-fect!".
I dunno. I like the idea of Bubsy, but I can't say I have much experience with him or the games. Regardless, I want to see the internet warm to him and do him right.
To be fair, Bubsy was stuck on the limitation of a 16-bit, 16 megabit cartridge. Some of his vocalizations did get repetitive, yes, but it was the technology of the time - all games with voice clips were that repetitive.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I don't get why everybody's freaking out.
So Steam went and re-released two old games. It's not like we're gonna hear about a Bubsy Kickstarter in the foreseeable future, are we?
Who owns him anyway?

I contacted the guy that created Bubsy. He makes murder mysteries now, along with his wife, and I asked if he was interested in making another Bubsy game.
Here's what he said.
"Thanks for your interest in Bubsy. Seems that whoever purchased Accolade retains the rights to Bubsy, and I don’t know who that is. I know it’s not me, though, so I couldn’t make another Bubsy game without that company’s agreeing. Also, it took about 12 people to make the first Bubsy and about 14 people to make Bubsy 3D, and unless you’ve got a couple million $ lying around, I’m pretty sure I can’t do that kind of work myself."
The Protomen enhanced my life.Have to agree. The thread title made me think there was a new title being made/pitched, but it's just another Steam retro release. It's not that surprising, but I guess people are still under the impressions that the series was as terrible as the 3D game.
I mean, Bubsy's first two games weren't great by any means, but they were serviceable, and I know the first title at least has its fans, so this doesn't seem all that out there to me. It's just that Bubsy 3D pretty much tanked its reputation even further though, and popular video content creators (like JonTron, who still seemed to at least tolerate the first game, questionable mechanics aside) sometimes just exacerbated the negative perception the series already had among gamers.

i played the first game and just found it really mediocre, just another mascot platformer trying to be the next mario or sonic but completely failing at it.
As someone who has played every game in this series (except the fairly obscure Jaguar one) I would say the first game is trash too. It controls awfully, you can't see what's coming until it's too late to reasonably react, and you die at the slightest tap.
Plus the level design is atrocious. I remember a level with waterfalls and cliffs that I could never get past because of all the blind jumps and precision-based platforming on an engine that really isn't suited to it...
I remember Bubsy 2 being weird and mazelike, and I never knew what I was doing enough to actually feel like I was having fun.
The best version of Bubsy was unquestionably that one 3D browser game from a couple years back.

I feel crushed by my responsibilities ART NO RELIEF
I remember the first one being pretty decent, despite the obnoxious zero-to-wtf-speed issue. But this is a huge mistake.
Now that the Duck Hunt dog has been rescued from Scrappydom, I guess it's Bubsy's turn.
It's been 3000 years…Bubsy for Smash when
Cortex should take a 12-step plan off a 10-step pierHis final smash is to go uncontrollably fast and run off the map
His Final Smash would be to say "What could possibly go wrong?" and then immediately get K.O.'d himself.
That's a thing that exists?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Ah, yes, Bubsy Dreams Collection.
Apparently it's using SNES9x, of which distribution for commercial use is illegal.

The Protomen enhanced my life.Oh well, might as well develop a game myself. It seems like this season anything goes. And if fucking BUBSY can put another game...
Now, I don't know much about Bubsy so correct me if I'm wrong.
But wasn't Bubsy awful?
The Busby thing Arcane Kids did was done a lot earlier than Sonic Dreams Collection mind you. In fact, that's how I knew SDC wasn't a real leak, cause I was like "Hey those are the guys who made Busby goes to the James Turell Retrospect?"
You know, I have to ask... if there's enough nostalgia for edgy 90s video game animal mascots to revive fucking Bubsy, why is it that Crash Bandicoot is still languishing in video game limbo?
Because Crash fucked up his chance at a resurection.
Because Activision only care about Call of Duty and to a lesser extent Skylanders.
