If police I would suggest a special unit assigned to such things. Personally would prefer a private agency.
Trump delenda estIt'll have to be a special police unit that isn't well-known by the peers and by the public so that it can do its thing without raising too much suspicion.
Make it like Scooby Doo, and they're teenagers.
Also the group having psychic powers would be rad as hell
This is gonna go Darker and Edgier, so maybe unless trap otaku Fred is involved...
Anyway, if peeps are going to get ideas of teens to help in the unit, then a special police unit is not going to be feasible at this point.
Maybe something privately funded by an eccentric billionaire?
Trump delenda estThat could work. Maybe urban legend investigator is a respectable career path in this setting? And the players are teenagers who aspire to become ones? And said eccentric billionaire is bankrolling their hobby and using them to back his own mysterious agenda?
We'll see if other peeps have more interesting ideas.
A private detective agency/security company funded/led by a billionaire is an interesting idea in case I go down this route.
I'd be interested in a RP like that. I'd prefer a fictional country, but I don't mind whether it is a private company or the police.
Also, yeah, newbie player characters are more interesting than veterans. But will the cases be linear, or is there a possibility that the characters get the wrong culprit?

@Rapier
- The cases can get a mix of both, depending on what evidence the team finds. It's most likely be linear 'cause IMO it's hard to translate nonlinear VN-type gameplay into this RP. Of course, I'm welcome to suggestions.
Also for player characters (Haven't decided yet) can be a detective, but also occult specialists can be recruited as well.
I can see Saten working well under this setting.
PS - If people are itchin for signups, let me know.

Doing a count now. Seems that I got three people so far.
I'll wait for a few more days before I further brainstorm on the setting.
After spending some time brainstorming, I decided to go with original characters. They're easier to handle IMO in terms of characterization. We'll probably be limited if we went with canon characters.
City (unnamed right now) is a fictional city set in the western part of North America. (America or Canada, I'll perhaps flip a coin). The only thing lacking (after the name) is to worldbuild the city's police force, including the ranks.
The characters will be stationed at some support division. Either administration or in investigations/detective bureau.

Bump to say that the signups are out.
I'd like to sign up. I have some ideas for my character. Would I be welcome to share them with you, GM?
Depends. What do you have in mind?

Basically an ex-military guy who believes his father is suffering under a Curse set by a pretty nasty urban legend.
Is the curse fatal or is it going to be a hindrance of some kind?
I was actually thinking of having it be a Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane thing, he thinks its a Curse, and its generally just making his dad extremely, extremely sick.
But its not killing him.
Whatever it ends up being is up to you.
Sure. Since the RP will have cases that sometimes, it'll be paranormal and sometimes, it's gonna be a brilliant "Scooby-Doo" Hoax.
Otherwise, I'm fine with it. Do you want to explore this as a sidestory?
Sure. I'll post the sign up.
Just a bit of notice that in case peeps are inquiring on the signup numbers, 3-4 persons (including me) should suffice in the meantime since the section is very small.
Since two are already in the roster, I'll do some brainstorming regarding Greenpoint. Me thinks it should be drawn at least to point out the geography.
I have to wonder how well Carter and Ominae's character will get along.
Decided to do this after watching someone do a Let's Play for Shin Hayarigami based on the Hayarigami franchise.
For this game, we all play characters investigating crimes tied to urban legends and to figure out if someone using them to cover up their crime or if the paranormal really is involved.
Three things to point out:
