Yeah. '03 Slade just highlighted the show's lack of moral grey area. Ron Perlman aside, he just seemed like little more than a creep.
Slade's always been a creep. the 2003 version was just honest about it.
I think Terra and Robin's arc dealt with the moral grey area pretty well.

Yeah. Talk all you want about what a creepy mastermind he was, I've always believed that without Ron Perlman's performance, Slade wouldn't have been nearly as popular as he was.
True. I just meant '03 Slade was "nothing more" than a creep. Emphasis on nothing more.
I prefer Slade with actual backstory. Gave him weight as a character. Without it, the conflict between him and Robin was just too black and white.
I find that Slade's best moment in '03 is the episode where Robin is just hallucinating him the entire time. It's basically the show admitting that he isn't really a character so much as a force of nature.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!he's so evil he crucified them!
New theme music also a boxCyborg was by far my favorite Titan. The episodes he deals with the whole Cybernetics Eat Your Soul dilema are some of my favorite of the show.
I quite like this show's take on Brother Blood too, as wildly different from his comic self as he is.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Starting Monday at 6 AM to 7 AM they will start airing two episodes of Teen Titans a day on Cartoon Network.
Though it might be different depending on which Timezone you live in CDT is at 5 AM to 6 AM.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre Adventure- Is it going to be on CN itself or Boomerang?
- Source please.
Whaaaaaaat?
So I got a chance to check my TV's guide and it's true.
We gotta tell the CN thread.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Watching "Final Exam" and "Sisters" on the TV right now.
Just saw the 3rd and 4th episodes.
How does Slade have magic powers? I thought he was supposed to be a Badass Normal.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?He is, normally except when working as Trigon's lackey. Doylistically, I tend to put Forces of Nature down to Early-Installment Weirdness, with Slade in a plot (using quasi-mystical powers while getting superpowered teens to do his dirty work* and cause unchecked destruction For the Evulz) that would have probably been a better fit for Brother Blood. From a Watsonian perspective, magic exists and works in this world, so he was probably using a combination of smoke and mirrors for some of his tricks, plus a pre-existing ritual he got out of a book or something to summon the fire demon. It's still a weird episode for him.
- Slade does this too, but is usually choosier about his targets for manipulation.

Is there any particular reason why the theme song occasionally plays in an non-English language? It's happened twice now since CN started the reruns.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Because weeaboos prefer the original Japanese Dub over the western version.
To be honest I don't know why. They did this before when the show originally aired on tv.
This once in a while happens with Dragon Ball Super too after the first main arc.
I think it once in a while happened with some of the reruns years ago, but I can't fully remember. Weird, but eh.
I think the basic rule of thumb for the theme is: when it's english, it's a semi-serious to serious episode. When it's japanese, it's lighthearted comedy and/or a one-off. Mad Mod's first episode, for example.
Yeah, I do remember that, because when Larry appeared he sung the Japanese version of the theme.
Awesome. Teen Titans Trouble In Tokyo is airing as the Saturday Movie today.
Watching it now. I've never seen it before.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? The Japanese theme usually plays when the episode is a Bizarro Episode.
Oissu!
Don't get me wrong, I like the 2003 version. But after seeing what Deathstroke is like on Arrow and in the new DC animated films I kind of like that one too - so it's kind of like asking "why do people prefer how this character originally was to the newer version of said character that only existed in a single continuity." It's kind of like asking, "why do people like the goofy Joker from the cartoons when there's Nolan's version of the Joker?"
Most people prefer it because that's what the character originally was, and anybody following the character probably knows or is at least somewhat aware of his history.
And to be fair at least half the reason Slade was so fascinating in the 2003 version was due to Ron Perlman voicing him and giving that mysterious, suave inflection. Without it Slade is kind of a weak, mostly ineffectual villain.
