Name: The 18th Gentleman Avenger, Jerry Kings! Not his real name

Age: 45

Sex: M

Appearance: Without his fighting garb, Jerry Kings is exactly a face in the crowd, dressing in suits of un-outstanding hue fit to his athletic-seeming build, dark hair usually cut short and bright brown eyes. People comment on his seeming youth, saying he doesn't look a day over thirty.

In costume, he cuts a unique figure wearing a classic black tuxedo with wingtip shoes. Over his shoulders, he drapes the ragged black and red Mantle of the Gentlemen Avengers. Obscuring his features, is the simple ruby-colored cloth domino mask that could be argued as the Mantle's mate, the Mask. Notably, rather than a rose decorating his lapel, he sports a rather unique blue-and-yellow badge that quite clashes with his outfit's color scheme.

Personality: Whomever the person now wearing the Mask and the Mantle was, he has now been subsumed by the persona of the 18th Gentleman Avenger. Jerry Kings is a dedicated professional often given to random tangents. To those who have fought alongside him, Jerry can be described as a driven and tireless, though deeply eccentric, crusader against tyrants and mad scientists. Those who only know of his reputation dismiss him as a delusional hobo who happens to be a high-functioning pathological liar who loves running through the rooftops, pursuing his own nonsensical agendas.

Background: The boy who would be Jerry Kings was the youngest operative of the Tarot Protocol, a proto-black operations outfit formed in the early twentieth century to combat extraordinary threats conventional authorities could not tackle. It was here that he met the 17th Gentleman Avenger, the individual known only as "The Nightcap".

Working together alongside the secretive organizations of the day, such as the British Blackwatch and the so-called "Century Club", the pair had served valorously in many operations against foes of all stripes until the Nightcap met his end in Belgium, passing on the Mask and the Mantle to his young protege. Since then, Jerry had wandered the globe, aiding in world-shattering discoveries and generally making things unpleasant for types like the afore-mentioned mad scientists and tyrants.

A vigorous and dedicated agent of the Century Club, Jerry Kings is now based in the Los Cielos Century Tower and continues to fight the good fight.

Abilities: Jerry is a self-taught acrobat who utilizes a unique fighting method that uses his body's athleticism in a manner that could be described as "dirty flow boxing".

As he had grown up playing on the city's rooftops, climbing, jumping, running and moving silently are all as natural to him as swimming is to a fish.

Unbelievably, he also shows broad expertise and knowledge in various forms of mysticism and myth. He has been known to handily identify myriad occult methods and artifacts as well as displaying a working knowledge of cryptozoology.

Equipment:

  • The Gentlemen Avengers' Big Book of Weird - The dog-eared journal-slash-encyclopedia-slash-handbook passed down from generation to generation. Jerry has used it prop up tables and bludgeon assailants so far. If he's bored, he skims it.

  • The Mask - The Mask that has disguised the face of every Gentleman Avenger in history. Upon inheriting this unassuming piece of red cloth,a powerful glamor takes hold of the wearer, utterly masking his or her face against cameras or any technology or magic meant to capture memories of the face. It is also keeps psychic imprints of past Avengers, giving each current wearer a wealth of experience and knowledge, even if it is a little outdated and unwelcome at some times.

  • The Mantle - The tattered red mantle worn by every Gentleman Avenger who has borne the title. Whoever wears it finds his or her greatest ability amplified to heroic proportions. In Jerry's case, he can move like the wind and hit like a tornado if he wills it.
    • Whatever it's made of, it seems to defy certain limitations of cloaks. No one who means harm can grasp it and it never gets snagged.

  • Century Tower - A tall building from with typical turn-of-the-architecture, it serves as a museum to the country's shining tradition of super-powered heroism and as one of the many monuments created by the mysterious Century Club. It is also Jerry's current home and that of several others like himself who were born at the dawn of the new century.

  • A brass grappling gun of rugged construction and simple efficiency.

I should probably mention that I'm looking for villains too. I prefer a somewhat equal ratio of heroes to villains.

[up][up] Niko ended up being a fairly neutral character in my head...He's a war machine living in the aftermath of the war, so he could easily go onto either side depending on who he interacts with.

Yeah I'm with Sven on this. Johnathan is technically speaking going to be super-neutral since he'll work for whoever pays him (at least that's the plan).

Would a character that's a psychologically unstable (as in its mind shattered into four fragments, with the leftovers violently morphing their magic body into specific expressions for each) Mind-Type Humonculus be an acceptable concept? The idea is each of the four fragments express their core powers of Telepathy and Telekinesis into specific uses, such as one that's an innocent young man feeling people's emotions or a cheerfully neutral entity who stimulates flight & super speed.

Ashley's sonic acceleration isn't exactly the same as super speed, and I don't think I did very well in showing that. She can accelerate her body really, really fast, but she can't maintain it. She can shoot herself in different directions in short bursts. My idea was to have her act like a sort of human cannonball and smash into enemies. If this is still too overpowered, I'll give her a different set of powers. If not I'll make the power description better. (I'll also make her slower. In hindsight supersonic speed is WAY too fast.)

So... I take it tropers firmly believe in "Never Live It Down"? Cause I'm a radically different person from when those events happened, and I'm perfectly open to hearing instructions. Honestly, in my opinion, I don't think a person should ever be judged by their past. If I really can't join however, I'll just leave without complaint.

Since we need villains... let me see what can I make.

  • Name: Hetep-heres
  • Age: Appears to be in her early 20's. Is, in reality, much older. The exact time remains unknown, but it is not impossible to guess she had seen the very rise of ancient Egyptian civilization.
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: In a suit snatched off a high-ranked Ahnenerbe member. His blood still pulses on the armband... Obviously doesn't wear the suit as her civilian clothing, rather preferring to wear disgustingly opulent pieces befitting of her status, both male and female types of clothing alike. However, her skin isn't pale white all the time. Rather, as befitting of an, well, Egyptian, it is of a much darker shade; enough to be perceived as black. The more foul magic she uses, the more her skin pales and whitens although the effect is only temporary.
    • Costume: The aforementioned SS suit.
  • Personality: A tempestous and ruthless warlock, Hetep-heres' heart is cold as ice, befitting someone who has slumbered in death's embrace for so long. To her, this new world she was born into is a mere playground; as no other word can be used to describe what has become of the realms she lived in, when the man - in her opinion - thrived. As such, her opinion on humanity and fellow "supers" alike is no higher than curious species for her to study. She is the one being and none can hold the candle to her. Due to this, she has a bad habit of underestimating her opposition and not learning from her mistakes due to ego big enough to sit on comfortably. The very moment her plans are foiled, her smug facade turns right around into an expression of rage befitting a demon than what was once a mere, if powerful, human... and if the one responsible isn't quick enough to clear the vicinity, chances are she will pursue him until either expires. Fascinated by how war and magicks have evolved over the millennia and all too eager to mix treacherous Nazi technoccultism with her ancient rites. The one thing that pisses her off is the treatment she receives all around, just on account of being of different shade of skin. Ironic, considering her get-up. While she has grown used enough to not explode into all-consuming rage over these few years due to mistreatments, she will still have you know she won't tolerate such follies if she can help it.
  • Biography: Some things should remain buried forever.
    • Long ago there was an ancient queen of long forgotten, unnamed civilization. In fits of ignorance today's men associated it with early Egypt. Whatever suits them. The queen was a beautiful and wise woman, but her heart was blackened. She was a tempestuous ruler who judged her people as she liked, taking things away from the poor and giving it to the rich only to ruin the rich the very next day and send the poor to prey upon them. In her capricious monarchy, she pursued the art of black magic and became one of the most proficient spellcasters that had ever walked the Earth. But nothing last forever: people's patience has run out and, together, they have trapped the evil queen in her palace, burying it under mountains with Ra's divine blessing. Hetep-heres remained a mystery until the late 30's of twentieth century, just shortly before the war.
    • Nazis always had a thing for things eldritch and unknown. They believed that these fabulous, long forgotten powers can be the Wunderwaffe to conquer the world with... and so it happened, an Ahnenerbe expedition did happen to stumble across her place of entrapment. Were it any other adventurer, nothing would happen for magic kept evil queen's mummified body contained... Nazis brought their own runes and chants. Two energies clashed and that day, at 30th of July, 1939... Hetep-heres was reborn.
    • Of course, the process didn't quite work out completely. She had found out that her new body, while seemingly how she remembered it from her time, changed with how much magic she used, whitening and paling until almost chalk white. An outrage, considering who she was. Then again, the world she had found herself in was completely different from the world she had once knew... and so, she decided to prepare for the world. For another few years she wandered the globe, indifferent of the raging world war around her. Wearing the uniform of the SS officer she had skinned alive back at her tomb, she learned of this new world, piece by piece... and when the war had ceased, she made her way to the one place advertised as the beacon of the future, City of Los Cielos. A perfect way to finally put all that knowledge to a real test, particularly with the presence of these... special individuals all around...
  • Abilities:
    • Undead - as a reanimated dead body, Hetep-heres is immune to pain, extreme weather conditions and suffocation. She has no need for nourishment and, due to her condition, is hidden from any heat vision there is. However, due to the foul magic that keeps her up, holy symbols and positive energy inconvenience her by revealing her location, cause itches or throw off her concentration. Although strong enough to mostly disregard things such as holy water or the walls of a mosque, a sufficiently ancient or holy artifact would be able to successfully keep her at bay or even put a definite harm in her.
    • Strength of Apophis - Infused with superhuman physical ability and toughness, she can take an ordinary man's neck clean off with a single bite or pierce through the whole body and spine with her palm. She also has no problem tanking blows of similar strength and can reattach lost limbs or regrow them good as new. Holy items, even the minor ones, are able to halt her regeneration however. She is also rather average in swiftness, perhaps even a bit on the sluggish side.
    • The One Who Blots Out The Sun - Hetep-heres' true form and the true manifestation of her power; it is a pulsating mass of all that has fallen by her hand. Mindless, hateful form of Decay itself, its mere sight is revolting enough for weak-minded to double-over and vomit their guts out. It doesn't stop there: this form allows Hetep-heres all of her magical abilities to be used at her leisure. Since the mere manifestation of this form eats away at the energy that keeps her together, she prefers to use it sparingly: either as a blink-and-you'll-miss visage to terrify her foes into submission or when nothing but overwhelming force will do.
    • Magician of Old - As a warlock from the times immemorial, Hetep-heres is proficient in many branches of black magicks: necromancy is her forte, but she can also bind souls, animate objects and survey large areas with her familiars. She can also implement the knowledge of modern world into her magicks, allowing her to, say, replicate the effect of Zyklon B. On top of that she is, due to her experience with magic, way more resistant to any foreign magic in kind. As always, holy magic is super effective against her.
  • Equipment:
    • Walther PP with bullets for it, confiscated off the late Leutnant Friedrich Kugel. She often infuses these with various hexes when she feels particularly bored.
    • Snazzy SS uniform.
    • An opulent villa at the outskirts of Tranquility, filled to the brim with mercenary guards, alive or otherwise. It also contains a handful of servants to do menial task by Hetep-heres considered beneath her.
    • Lots of opulent clothing. Lots of opulent everything. She lives like a queen if she can help it.
  • Additional Info: Has forged a civilian identity by the name of Carla Fick, an eccentric multimillionare that went from rags to riches despite the mistreatments. As far as everybody knows, Miss Fick has lived in US all her life...

...there. -phew-

Kkutwar, you can fuck right off with your passive aggressive shaming. If we didn't judge people on past actions, then Saturn and I wouldn't be Co-GM's from good behavior either. You can't leave without complaint when that whole post was complaining.

As Co-GM I'm gonna voice approval on Lucid, Jerry Kings, and Hetep-heres. I'd like to defer to Saturn and Starbound on the subject of Elyzian's clarification on Ashley's powers.

As GM I will back Taco's approvals.

@ Elyzian: In regards to Ashley - now that you've clarified how her powers are used, and after rereading her profile, if you follow your own consideration of making her sub-supersonic, I'll accept her. Personally, I'd change the "invulnerability" tag for her power to "durability", just because it left the wrong initial impression. But that's not wholly necessary.

Alright, I'm going to make an official hero/villain/neutral list and edit it into the first post, then start submitting my own characters.

EDIT: The character list has been added to first posts of discussion and sign-ups.

  • Name: Bartholomew Forrester aka Hangman
  • Age: Roughly 100, appears to be in his mid 30s
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: A well-toned and athletic brunette man with blue eyes and messy hair. Has a bit of a rugged look to him. 4 o'clock shadow. When in disguise he wears some jeans and a thick brown collared shirt.
    • Costume (If Applicable): When the magic keeping him disguised drops, well. It ain't pretty. (Add a second holster to his other hip and a noose around his neck.)
  • Personality: When disguised as a civilian, Hangman acts friendly, pleasant, keeps to himself but when needing to talk to others he always has a calm attitude. Naturally, that's all bullshit; Hangman is a ruthless, pragmatic son of a bitch who only cares about getting his revenge on all lawmen, and is perfectly fine with any means he can use to do so.
  • Biography: Once a simple bandit from a gang of outlaws known as the Convicted, Hangman and his crew terrorized towns in the wild west for all their lives, eventually turning towards the occult to help ensure their wicked ways could never be stopped by some simple lawman. However, eventually the Convicted trifled with a bounty hunter not even they were ready for - the immortal cowboy Clinton West. Caught, convicted, and hanged for their crimes, the simple folk breathed a sigh of relief as the Convinced saw their last days of life leave them.
    • But the story don't end there. That cultist magic was some potent stuff, the executed convicts rising and bursting out of their graves to raise hell once again. Taking back their worldly possessions from the sheriff's office, they ransacked the town they were tried and killed at as liches, until a Native American shaman put them all back in their place in hell. All except Hangman, that is. Just one shot from his gun was enough for Hangman to send that shaman to an early burial instead of him.
    • Not wanting to get caught again, Hangman laid low for a while, passing through towns, doing odd work to get travel money, avoiding the officers of the law best he can. Still, that itching, burning urge to lay havoc and slaughter all those bastards responsible for putting him in a grave stewed beneath the surface. Then he found it. Los Cielos - a place where criminals fought and died against the lawmen on a daily basis, a city with the dead stewing with hatred for the living, just like he is. A perfect starting place to start up his revenge against the world...
  • Abilities:
    • Lich Body: Being undead provides Hangman with a wide variety of benefits. Firstly, his corpse like body doesn't exactly get tired, and doesn't need food, water, or sleep. Getting whacked around or chopped up hurts him, but his sense of pain is dulled, so he can keep on trucking even if he's got half a dozen swords sticking out of his chest. He can also regenerate any damage done to his body, though this requires a certain amount of concentration that he can't achieve in the heat of a fight. However, being the way he is, his body is vulnerable to magic and fire.
    • Resurrection: If Hangman is so utterly defeated that his body can no longer function, his body can still regenerate and be brought back to life after a full 24 hours, granted that he is in a location steeped with extreme hatred for this world.
    • Disguise: Hangman can change his lich form to look human in order to move around more easily in public.
  • Equipment:
    • Twin Colt Single Action Armies: The pair of trusty guns Hangman used while he was alive. While one of them is just an ordinary pistol, the other one is cursed with strange magics, an old timey weapon not to be underestimated:
      • Malice: Hangman's cursed gun and his main form of offense. Inscribed with all sorts of occultist symbols, the Colt Malice absorbs the residual hatred of dead criminals from the surrounding area, firing them off as fast moving, vicious wraiths that will try to attack those that Hangman targets. He can also fire off a wraith to act to protect him; however, he's unable to maintain these wraiths for an extended period of time. If on the offensive, the wraiths disappear upon their attempts to attack, and they all disappear after three seconds after their summoning. If he feels like skipping the fancier stuff, Hangman can fire off a crimson red blast of malice that can knock back enemies with a concussive blow.
    • The Noose: Still wearing the rope that choked out his life around his neck, the noose glows with a red light and tightens around Hangman's neck when a "lawman" is within 3 feet of him, keeping him from getting jumped (superhero, police officer, etc.). In addition, the noose is highly durable and if Hangman manages to get it around someone's neck, it will automatically tighten around it.
    • Moonlight: Hangman's loyal steed, this skeletal white horse radiates with blue flames (harmless but reflective of its ghostly nature) and runs as swift as any motorcycle, capable of running up the sides of buildings and breathing flames from its nostrils that boosts its leaps. With a whistle, Hangman can call forth his stallion to trample in from the abyss in about 20 seconds time, or have it disappear back into whatever hellish land it now resides in.

Feel free to give me shit if you think my characters could use some balancing, BTW.

  • Name: The Silver Light, rarely known as Wyatt L. Thompson
  • Age: 30-ish
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: The man under the mask is an unassuming, well-built but not well-defined man with a completely bald head and pale skin. His "work-suit", as he calls it, covers his body entirely in thick but mundane clothing. On his head is a heavily-furred aviator's cap, goggles and a face-hiding ski mask covered with a plain bandana. On the rest of his body is a thick grey trenchcoat, baggy snow pants and boots to match.
  • Personality: He's ultimately a little bit paranoid. Maybe it's PTSD or maybe he's born with it, but he certainly is not one to trust others or reveal anything about the man behind the mask. Wyatt ultimately looks out after himself, and sparingly uses his powers to make some ill-gotten gains without being detected. While a bit insane, he tries to avoid killing if at all possible.
  • Backstory: Wyatt was a simple boy growing up, enjoying the farm life back in his home state of Washington. He was the eldest of 6 brothers and his work was hard, but the majority of his young life was easygoing and uneventful. He ended up drafted into the War near the tail-end and found himself rarely in combat. While it was an easier predicament than most, there is a period of a few months that are simply blank in his mind. After the war, he was one of the many veterans who ended up homeless and dropped off in a strange city, in this case Los Cielos. Alone, dirt poor and generally bored out of his mind, he discovered his nascent ability to phase out of reality while making a daring escape attempt from the local drunk tank. Nowadays he's taken up "scum-hunting", the nightly patrols and activities of the average super hero, both as a sport and what he perceives to be a public service. It is an often thankless duty, however, so he makes up for whatever costs he incurs with petty thievery from people who he believes to "deserve it".
  • Abilities: Silver Light is capable of physically shifting himself into a random alternate dimensions, for one to five seconds at a time. During that brief period, his body simply does not exist in his "home" dimension, and as such he cannot be affected by anything. Similarly, while shifted Wyatt is incapable of affecting or perceiving whatever is going on where he came from. After that period passes, he returns to a position relative to where he moved while shifted. While it allows him to do such feats as passing through walls and avoiding incoming danger, it does have a few caveats. One, his senses and reaction time are entirely human, so he won't be dodging sniper rounds or taking on super-speedsters in games of chicken. Two, the dimension he shifts to is entirely random and may likely be more hostile than where he came from. Shifting is physically tiring on Wyatt himself, so he isn't able to do it more than every few seconds, or more than a couple of times in a row. With further training, maybe that limitation could be overcome. Maybe.
  • Equipment:
    • Heavy Clothing: Mundane, but more often than not alternate dimensions can have some very inclement weather. Stylish and useful!
    • Surplus M1911 Pistol: After the war, these things are pretty much everywhere. Surely, nobody's gonna miss it. He's loathe to use it, but he knows that the average scumbag certainly isn't.
    • Assorted gear: You never know where you're gonna find yourself, so you might as well carry a grappling hook, multiple flashlights, smoke grenades, a handy-dandy radio transceiver, rappelling equipment, propane, two swiss army knives, and assorted dog treats in the many pockets of your trenchcoat.
    • Heroic Hideout: Wyatt squats in an abandoned basement that he's personally reinforced to ensure that nobody is getting in without his permission. It contains a number of amazing devices including a working toilet, a television, and a bookcase to store the many "hunting logs" he writes.
  • Additional Notes: Consider him neutral if you haven't already.

Changed up Kara.

For the major thing, to give a little bit more oomph to the hero side, dropped the wings and gave her supernatural strength and wind control. can use powerful air currents to push enemies around that get within a 1.5 foot radius around her and create pseudo flight. as well as make small tornadoes and such.

also changed her signature boxing move from a jumping upper to a flicker jab.

Name: Addisu Iskender.

Age: 31.

Gender: Male.

Appearance: A rather buff-looking, bald African man, Addisu would be imposing if he wasn't in a wheelchair due to his lack of legs below the knee. He has dark brown eyes and a permanent mischievous grin on his face. He's usually seen wearing jeans cut to fit him and a variety of... interesting t-shirts. (He really does need to learn that highlighter yellow isn't a good shirt color.)

  • Costume (If Applicable): Usually doesn't wear one; he prefers to keep to himself and mind his own business, though his appearance would definitely make him stand out in a crowd.

Personality: Addisu is fun-loving and fun-living, always looking for a new thrill or thing to do. A lot of people would say he has barely any sense of duty or responsibility, or even call him lazy. However, he does have his principles, and will never, say, kill someone for the thrill of it.

Biography: Addisu was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1914, as the sixth of seven children. Growing up, he learned how to make his own entertainment, as his parents were often too busy working or taking care of one of his siblings to play with him, and his older siblings were usually out playing in the town or working with his parents. When Italy declared war on the country in 1935, Addisu saw his chance to do and see things other than his part of Addis Ababa, and enlisted almost immediately. As it turned out, being in the army sucked. It wasn't any fun! After discovering this unfortunate fact, Addisu began setting aside the majority of his pay for something that would guarantee him an interesting experience; a plane ticket to America. After a few months on the battlefield, though, Addisu was shot several times in both legs. The wounds became infected, and he had to have them amputated. He was honorably discharged directly after. He had mixed feelings about it; he didn't like that his legs were gone, and he felt a bit guilty about skipping out on everyone, but he had finally gotten enough money to go to America. And besides, he was certain his country and family would be fine. After arriving in New York, he hitchhiked his way across the country, eventually ending up in Los Cielos. He discovered his power after the people he was riding with across Arizona were almost killed by a drunk driver after dropping him off. He had turned around and seen them about to get hit, and before he knew what was happening, the drunkard's car had just kinda... stopped. So suddenly that it pitched the poor man through the windshield, in fact. Addisu was shocked, but shock soon gave way to "Did I do that? That's awesome!" He decided to test his theory by making his wheelchair move without his help. Lo and behold, he shot off down the street as fast as any car. He eventually arrived in Los Cielos, and figured that he'd stay and make himself a new life here. That was a good five or so years ago (he doesn't bother to keep track of time much; too boring), and since then, he's gotten a job, a college degree (Bachelor's in Automotive Engineering), and a nice apartment in Equity, and he's stopped a few car-related catastrophes besides. His job is sufficiently interesting (you wouldn't believe how many ways people can screw up their cars), and all he's got left to do is find himself a wife, though finding one that can put up with him for long has been a challenge.

Abilities:

  • Addisu has a very odd superpower; he can telekinetically manipulate anything that has at least one wheel on it. How much effort it takes is proportional to how large and/or far away it is; moving a Hot Wheels car sitting in his hand would be no trouble, while moving a real car at that same distance would tire him out a good bit, but it'd still be doable. A maximum range for his ability is about 70 feet, and at that range he'd have trouble moving anything larger than a small model car. He also uses his power to speed up (or slow down, if needed) his wheelchair, and has exercised his power more than once to stop car crashes without revealing himself. Addisu's power doesn't have any noticeable evidence that it's being used aside from its effects (No Power Glows, auras, etc).
  • He also is decent with a gun, given his army service, though he doesn't carry one.
  • Finally, his first language is Amharic. This gives him a bit of an accent, and he occasionally swears in said language when stressed or especially angry.

Equipment: A sack of small metal model cars, mostly used as projectiles, but also to entertain himself if needed. Also his wheelchair, naturally.

Additional Notes: In the small town where he discovered his powers, he's become a bit of an urban legend. Probably not related, but I thought it was a neat little tidbit. He's also neutral.

[up][up]I actually thought she was fine too. I just felt that I should make some effort in case I was wrong. I'll keep her as she is now.

Sleep? Sleep?! Sleep is for the weak!
