Possibly! I like that it's already hinted at social tensions and a kind of mystery arc involving Dutch. I especially like that she's actually the boss XD
It's live action cowboy beebob! Which is a high standard to live up to, but lets throw out some commentary: Dutch is very compelling, and I like the younger brother. The older brother.. not sold on him yet, mostly because his interactions with Dutch kept ringing way off-note.
The setting is shiny, and whoever is doing their sets is really quite good.
The fights were a mixed bag -the scenes where Dutch and sidekick use trickery and social engineering to bag someone work well (the intial bounty, the way they got the brother..) but the straight up gunfight in the corridor was silly, even if the rescue at the end with the spiders was made out of pure awesome.
It had a rather Firefly-esque feel to it as well. :)
Not as much as I was afraid of. The promos had me worried that it would be a ripoff. While I can see the stylistic similarities it definitely has it's own voice.
Trump delenda estSo I'm watching an ep right now (was meaning to watch it when it premiered but I forgot and/or was drunk) and so far I'm digging this show. Dutch is badass. The dude seems like a stooge. The ep I'm watching is him trying to bull a kill warrant on his brother.
That's the first episode. And the only one so far.
Man, Dutch is awesome. What a way to say hello, girl.
And I love how 25 year old Hannah John-Kamen convincingly plays the senior partner to a man who is 10 years older than her.
Hey, this show is produced by the same company that produces Orphan Black. Neat!
Yeah I'm loving Dutch. Badass as fuck, plus her voice, man... I like. So far I'm loving this show.
Like everyone else, I love Dutch. Also quite like the relationship between the ship AI and the mechanic. Noteworthy that the AI appears to.. not.. have any restrictions against just killing people when appropriate. Cant recall ever seeing the lifesupport system being weaponized on tv before.
I like the doctor introduced in the latest episode. Hope she sticks around.
Trump delenda estThe show found something amusing to do with D'avin this episode. Watching him try to play people and get called on it over and over again was a great deal of fun. It made me like him better as a character - He has real skills, but master manipulator? Not one of them, and it puts his anti-chemistry with Dutch in perspective - he was insincere, it showed.
The doctor was very good, as were all the bit players.
I love Dutch so much. It is a very charismatic showing from the actress - for example I believed utterly that a rowdy bar would calm down on her say-so, and her relationship with Johnny is just so likeable.
I know, Dutch is straight badass. If badass levels were types of liquor, she's a shot of Everclear 191 neat.
The surrogate episode was odd, got me into some weird head space but not bad.
Kind of digging the Lucy D'avin dynamic as well. John and Dutch are okay characters, hopefully they'll get some more depth.
Also the doctor is back and apparently appreciates her check ups shirtless.
The plot thickens, it seems.
I'm liking this show.
I like that the secret keeping wasn't drawn out forever.
Trump delenda estYeah, but in case of Dutch it's a huge load of Vagueness Is Coming, and for Davin, AKA Commander Knockoff, it seems forced since The Reveal that was held all the way until episode 5. Come on, he's had medical examination and nobody happened to notice the gizmos plugged into his brain until after he was pumped full of nanites, split open, reassembled, shot in the foot, reassembled and purged?
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisDutch in this episode explicitly outlined her mission to track down her former mentor and terminate him with extreme prejudice. That's somehow vague?
Well, if she wanted to kill Khlyen dead, she'd kill Khlyen dead. And she didn't. That, and he needs that gene-guided blaster thingy, for some vague reason that apparently scares him.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisShe tried to kill him via multiple stabbings. It didn't work.
Avatar from http://x0whitelily0x.livejournal.com/7486.htmlI'm not sure if she expected it to work, though. I couldn't tell if she was surprised at him for surviving, or at herself for stabbing him in the first place. Besides, they already killed a quasi-immortal last episode. If she really wanted him dead, he really would be dead.
I suspect he has nanites very similar to the ones from the torture ship. I mean, it would be utter insanity to invent a healing factor just to use for interrogation. Either they were using prisoners as test subjects, or the interrogation protocol was a spin off from a project meant to make people very difficult to kill.
No, it was said in one of the early episodes that he has surgical implants in his brain. And now we learned what they're in there for. A pretty literal Berserk Button.
Also, Jesus Christ on a hoverboard, did that series take a turn for the extra shitty. Vagueness Is Coming! Cheap drama! Gratuitous boning! Agreeing to do a favor for someone who's pissed off at you after the royal baby affair!
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisHonestly, I like the show. Moreso your vehement vitriol towards it is endlessly entertaining, Longcoat.
A Syfy original series about Space
