Finally caught up. I haven't been able to watch any tv for a few weeks.

Kinda annoyed Kierken got killed. I was liking his setup as a sympathetic antagonist, and was hoping he'd slowly come over to their side more. Of course, it could have been a clone, but it's not clear how commonly he uses those. He only used them in that one episode because he needed to get halfway across the galaxy in an instant.

Nyx's death was... trickier. I liked her character, and getting killed because she underestimated her opponent and got poisoned makes sense. On the other hand, I really don't like that Misaki is going full Yandere. I was hoping for her to be the sane member of Ryo's court who maybe eventually turns on him.

I hate what they've done with Four, but in a good way. It makes sense that he would think he has enough self-control to conquer the old memories, but he was wrong.

Backing up a few episodes, Six's plan to act as an anarchic galactic police force is hilariously impractical. Even if they could do it, sooner or later someone else would perfect the Blink Drive. And since they still don't know who it was stolen from, they have no timeline for when that would happen.

Looking forward to next season.

[up] Who's to say that it wasn't a Kierclone? Assuming that him being beardless means he's a clone, as per "I Wish I'd Spaced You".

Or, worse yet, him losing his beard after "Stuff to Steal, People to Kill" may be an inversion of the classic Mirror Universe Beard of Evil trope. Notice that he gets far more ruthless in those two episodes.

As for Four, I think that his old memories have nothing to do with it. His plan to regain the throne by any means necessary goes back as far as Episode Nine, and slowly unveils throughout the second season because of the Zairon-Pyr war, finally being set in stone after "Stuff to Steal, People to Kill", where he learns how the Mirror!Four did it. If anything, he uses his old memories to recall whether he has any allies left in Zairon, and not much more.

And Knives Han is a lunatic, in case you couldn't tell by her behavior in "Sometimes in Life". That bitchy smile when she demands Four's death should have tipped you off.

The thing about Kierkan is we don't know how often he uses clones. Maybe he uses them all the time, or maybe he only uses them when he is short on time and has to get to a hot spot fast. The conference was planned far in advance and was mostly assumed to be secure, so it might be that he's not paranoid enough to consider it necessary. I mean, if I was in his position I'd be using them for literally everything, but that's me.

As for Four, it's hard to say with him, because he's such a classic example of Beware the Nice Ones. Maybe you're right, and this is exactly what he would have done if he had had the ability without his memories. He had logical reasons for everything. For the part where he killed everyone, the only really heartless part was killing his brother, and Hiro had a look on his face like "Yep, saw this coming. I had hoped we'd avoid it, but oh well." The biggest discrepancy is stealing the Blink Drive from the Raza, but even then he tried to do it peacefully first. Oh, and blowing up the station to start a war. Ultimately, I think Ryo is more brutally pragmatic than Four. Four was pragmatic, no question, but he also considered honor important.

As for Misaki... yeah, I know. Mostly, I just really like that actress. At this rate, she's going to have to get killed sooner rather than later.

Also, a more detailed review:

The old cliche of Three being thrown against the wall gets played again surprisingly quickly - the first time this season, he’s getting his ass pounded by a girl. (...) when Two jumps into the fray, she has to keep up, which, as you might remember from the first season, is pretty unusual since Two is a nanite-infused superhuman whose reaction to being thrown out of the airlock is merely coming back and murderizing the shit out of everyone responsible.(...)

However, we haven’t heard anything from Cyrus King, the man responsible for the cosmic donut episode back in season 1. Apparently the entire Wendy debacle was so embarrassing that nobody wants to remember it.(...)

Remember, next time don’t underestimate the little girl in a terrible sweater, because she’ll fuck your shit right up when you least expect it. Oddly, despite working for an absolute bitch like Alicia Reynaud, he isn’t as much as implied to be dead.(...)

Someone offed One, and nobody seems to care who. Sure, I get it, some idiots were bleating that One was a fucking fedora, but that doesn’t mean that the crew’s gonna stop after braining the hired gun, without even asking that same hired gun who paid him. Particularly if the real Jace Corso managed to say it wasn’t personal and even offered to give Two the names.

So it seems that Kierken bit it, as Kris Holden-Ried has been cast in Vikings.

The show is back, Two is pissed, Three is inexplicably saved, Four had enough of Knives Han's shit, Five is tripping and Six has been Put on a Bus training colonial militia.

This week, in addition to last season's alternate universe shenanigans, we'll have TIME TRAVEL! If it keeps going this way, the next Blink Drive fuckup will turn Raza into a police box.

Season 2 is on Netflix now, so I'm binging to catch up. I forgot how much I love Two's character

OK, so yesterday's episode was marvelous. Sure, it was Inception-lite, but I loved the twist.

I like how things go really screwy without feeling convoluted. Also, The Bus Came Back.

Yesterday's episode was all chocolate pudding until The Stinger. And then, defecation hit the ventilation.

Also, the order of the crew joining the Raza is partially shown: Two, Three and Android were the first (with Three probably joining before Two and Android came in), Two commandeered the ship, then One, Four and Six joined and finally Five stowed away.

Well, fuck.

I really haven't expected this turn of events on the show. Least of all, the impending battle royale showrunners planned for season 4. Because right now, it's being set up to happen.

August 31, showrunner moves to Toronto to avoid going back and forth between home and job, September 1, showrunner loses job.

That's it, folks, Dark Matter has been cancelled despite the fact that it was hammered on and on over the last three years it was supposed to have a five-season arc. I'm at a loss for SFW words. NSFW you can find on my Twitter and Facebook.
