How about this map? I don't think there would be many other ways to illustrate the concept as clearly.

I like that. Although I am not sure if Iceland should be omitted (need to check a geographic map)

I think it would probably show somewhere north of Britain. It depends on the exact projection, as it sometimes gets weird up in the north.

Either way, it's a good image.

Doesn't say "united" as much as "grouped for one reason or another".

The OP suggestion is cool.

The OP is good, but it's also similar enough to China Takes Over the World (and sort-of Japan Takes Over the World) to evoke the idea of that instead.

[up] I don't see how. Why do you say that?

I also disagree with [up][up]; the similarity is limited and doesn't hurt the overall effect to me.

One, it's not the entire world. Two, unification if a form of conquest according to some definitions, and quite likely the result anyway, if only on paper. At any rate, I don't see any of that misleading.

^^^ That's just the impression I got when I first saw it - less "United", more "taking over". Semantically, 'United', especially to the above, isn't much at all alike one part taking over. Maybe it's because I was recently looking at China Takes Over the World, but that EU image looks more like "one country takes over Europe and makes it into a state under their power".

If no-one else sees it, it's fine.

I'll admit, all I see is the countries of Europe coloured the same blue as the background to the European Union flag with the circle of stars superimposed on top.

[up] it has non-European countries in blue as well though.

I get confused as to which countries belong and which don't, to be honest.

I think the image is fine. Using the stars and the blue colour of the European Union flag gives the impression all of Europe has been integrated into the EU, which of course is the most likely scenario for how an United Europe could come about. So it illustrates the concept nicely.

As for the "non-European" countries in the map, Turkey has long been considered a potential candidate for EU membership, and Russia (or at least Western parts of Russia seen in the map) is considered to be a part of Europe too.

I think we have 6+OP in favor of the first suggestion. Enough for consensus?
