Starline City

Once, a long time ago... there was a time of great conflict, desperation and fear. A time of suffering where people fought one another on a thousand different battlefields. It was a time where resources were scarce... and the most rare of these was trust and understanding. People split upon many sides, fighting for their traditions, their culture, their preferences, their needs. In a time of such lack, people gathered within their hearts that which was most precious to them, drawing strength from it, banding together with those who could understand and follow the same vision and then declared everyone who would deny it their enemies. From this age of strife, of bitterness, loss and despair arose a Hero.

Of this time there were many powerful figures, many champions of their cause adored by their followers and gallantly striding into the fields of battle. However, only one would be remembered without fail... only one arose to be remembered as the Hero of the Lost Age. A brilliant figure that inspired people whenever they went, the smartest, strongest, fastest and most powerful figure of them all. A figure that had they picked a side, they would have surely been able to defeat all other foes combined to rule upon the remains. However, greater than their strength was their boundless heart and warmth.

This figure travelled through the entire world, solving disputes, meeting people and taking interest in all expressions of the people's being. They made friends the world over as well as enemies... and once their tour of the world was over, this Hero, with boundless power perhaps even greater than that of Gods put an end to the age of conflict. Rejecting the notion of a world without space or resources to sustain the dreams of its people, the Hero created such a place.

That is the origin of this, Starline City. It has been a few centuries since... but their legend persists. For some reason, the figure of this hero has vanished from the memory of the people as well as any kind of record. Whenever they were a man or a woman, tall or short, white, black, brown, grey, green, blue or any other color is unknown. We don't even know if they were in truth human... however, their teachings, their symbol of a white star and the city they build still remains.

Starline City has grown from a single city into a sprawling metropolis... where there is no lack of wonder and resources. Where everyone has a place to reside should they look for it. However, even in this land of plenty there is conflict to be found. Whenever people are passionate about something, whenever they get swept in their own feelings and band together under one flag they run the risk of coming into conflict with those outside of their circle. And the brightest, most passionate people of the era are now the protagonists of this conflict. Whenever for good or evil, science or magic, rock, classical or electronic, sweet or salty, hot or cold, land or sea, these modern heroes engage in battle with one another, putting their passion on the line as they struggle, win, lose or are humiliated. We call these individuals Stars... for while they aren't like the Hero of the Lost Age, they remain the Best, their passion and strength is something that can bring admiration and dreams to those around them.

It is in this age, 349 After the Hero, in this Starline City that new stories are being born all over the place.

Welcome, welcome to this new RP of mine! Now you may think, what is Starline City about? Mostly it follows the format of a Superhero RP, however it is set on an ultra permissible and open setting allowing for magic, technology, aliens, inhuman species, angels, devils and the like. The RP is set into the concept of Stars. Any person in this setting can be a Star, for they are those who rise from among the masses and stand out. Whenever by magic, technology, ancient heritages, sheer charisma, contracts with the beyond or whatever, there are many ways for someone to become a Star. However, the single greatest requirement is to be passionate about something, to put effort and heart into it. That passion is the fuel that feeds the power of a Star... and so long as this requirement is met, from somewhere, the strength to become a Star shall come. Stars come in all colors and alignments... they can be Heroes or Villains and in some cases, they are one to a group and the other to those outside of it.

The city itself, Starline City, is actually a sprawling metropolis that has divided itself in numerous wards colored in a particular theme, beliefs or the like. Indeed, a lot of conflicts come from tensions between the people of different wards clashing one against the other. However, given the high advances in medicine of all wards, injuries tend to be healed quite quickly and without ill side effects most of the time... plus for some reason, the people of Starline City, even the regular passerby tends to be quite sturdy and resilient... so even though there are fights everywhere, fatalities are in truth quite a rare thing to find... well, outside of the naturally occurring undead and even that can be cured.

All of the wards tend to have a light and dark side to them. A thing to notice is that while some wards were founded by particular nationalities and ethnicities, what truly rules and defines each of them is their culture and flavor... and through the years people, spirits and species of all kinds, colors and looks have migrated and integrated into all of the wards, staying in those places where they can feel comfortable and whose culture they can embrace and belong to. Among the biggest of the Wards there can be found:

  • Silicon Street: A super modern city of tall skyscrapers and tons of technology as far as eye can see, where young hackers move about in hoverboards to ultra techno raves while at the same time from skyscrappers the ultra wealthy elites rake in untold cash, sending armies of robo security to deal with meddlesome protesters and corporate spies trying to free the alien species hidden in their basement. On the light side, it is the city of the future, of technology and creation, home of dreams for a better tomorrow. On the dark side, we got those ultra wealthy elites, terrible scientific experiments, secrets and surveillance as well as megacorp controls.

  • Avalon: Avalon, in sheer contrast, a modern city that somehow still has straw and wooden houses, together with rune engraved stone, built around a mysterious blue magical crystal, on top of forgotten labyrinthine ruins of unknown origin and surely there must be one or two indian burial grounds and mass witch graves somewhere close by. Here most anyone has a black cat or an owl for a pet and pointy hats are in fashion. The spark of magic can be seen in the eyes of most everyone, from younglings chasing each other on brooms, a girl turning her cheating couple into a frog to multiple magical potions in the market. However, there is a sinister side as well... ancient mages who hoard their power and weave their influence over others, curse slinging witches, dark rituals and a great deal of tradition.

  • Pleasantville: A relatively small town nestled as far away from chaos as they can weave their fences around. The sole bastion of complete normalcy in the entirety of Starline City... a suburb or that changes every few streets to a style from another corner of the world... though picket fences, carefully kept lawns and the like tend to be seen near everywhere. It is a place of peace and quiet, where nothing quite too exciting happens but at the same time, nothing too bad ever happens. On one side, it is quite peaceful and normal, idyllic and nice to raise a traditional happy family. On the other, it's boring, closed, traditionalist and repressive of new ideas and deviant expression.

  • Orie: An expansive city comprised of the embracing of oriental cultures and traditions, of spirits, martial arts, pagodas, temples and tradition. On the border closest to great Silicon Steet, you got great advances in robotics, megacorps wielding armies of workers and tons of modern, cool technology. On the border closest to Avalon, however, you can find not so ancient, but impressive temples, monasteries in the mountains, martial art schools, palaces and the like.

  • The Hollow: The city where the border between life and death is thinnest, a place Gothic architecture, ruins and shadows. The population can be seen as dreary in some aspects though very much alive in their passion in others. A place where ghosts and the supernatural is common occurrence, of strange powers, demonic residents and where zombies may flood the streets and vampires claim great mansions. On a corner, however, is tucked Festival Muerte, home of boundless celebration, music and color partying for those who have gone before, ancestors and the like from Latin Traditions.

  • Ultramarine: Also known as Subnautica or Atlantica, a sunken, sprawling city of the coast where all manner of sea life finds their home. From those loving the depths on sealed bubble homes to schools of sirens, and water breathing people, Ultramarine is a celebration of the mysteries of the sea and the creatures found within as well as the exploration of the same.

  • Tropica: Home of the greatest beaches of Starline City, this ward bordering with Ultramarine lies hugging the coastline, with a sun shining near every day of the year, sunglasses, swimsuits and a certain aura of being carefree. The ward stretches over Ultramarine, consisting as well of a few islands off the coast and many boats of all kinds moving between them. Though it has a few pirate issues, it is perfect for vacations. There are also a few tropical jungles around and ruins hidden in between the tall grass. Some inhabitants of Tropica, though, get a bit mad at how their ward gets positively flooded during winter by all sorts of tourists, wrecking their usual lifestyle.

  • Nova: Nova is the beating heart of Starline City... from which all other wards came and where the flavor of all of them mixes into a singular core of color. It is also in many cases the center of conflict between Stars. Trains of all kinds, from the sleek bullet trains of Silicon Street to ancient magically moved locomotives of Avalon, skull engraved, coffin themed trains from Hollow and tubes of water coming from Atlantica... all wards have easy and quick services that reach the Nova. A busy place full of color, and at the center of it lies Hero Tower... the place of residence of the Hero of the Lost Age, an open tower bearing his shining crest and the most sacred of neutral places in the whole of Starline City.

  • Ishrah: The most desert-like of the Wards, Ishrah is a ward for those that can't stand the cold and that honors ancient traditions of those who walked through the sands. Bazaars, lavish palaces, deep vibrant oasis giving a dot of color to the rest of the land... this and much more can be found within this Ward. On their border with The Hollow there lie ancient ruins hidden beneath the sand from which it is said that Lords and Gods of time past rest. Closer to Silicon Valley you can find some of the tallest skyscrapers in the whole cit as well as amazing touristic destinations and lavish entertainment with the latest technology.

  • The Fiefdoms of Euralia: Set close to Avalon lie the Fiefdoms of Euralia, a Ward that is split into tons of small neighborhoods and territories in constant conflict to expand their domains. Plagued with Kings, Queens, Emperors, Barons and the like (Some actual nobility, some merely 'elected' community leaders) who field their knights, ladies and gentlemen to struggle and fight in their honor. Most famous territories within are Albion and Galia, constantly at war, New Rome, Olympus, Barcelon and many others. Quite a colorful ward, with tons of varied culture depending on which neighborhood you visit.

  • Winterland: The grim up north of Starline city harbors some of the most rugged inhabitants of them all. In a place where snow is constantly falling, sometime accompanied with bucket sized pieces of hail, only the strong survive. Closest to the border the cold is still bearable and even charming to live in, but further North you will only find temperatures plummeting and all that can survive it are hardy folk, giants and possibly ice witches in frozen palaces.

  • Embrace of Gaia: A ward devoid of any technology, would be considered nothing but forest and jungleland by some if not for the efforts of the community within to have their voices heard. A realm of faeries, dryads, treants the nature loving and many many animals, this is a wild place that defend themselves with thorn, fang, claw and magic from those who at times would try to steal their resources and disturb their peace.

  • Paradiso: Floating directly above Starline, Paradiso, also known by some as Celestia, moves a bit from side to side to hover over different wards. Paradiso is home to all sort of Heavenly beings and even an odd God or two who have left their own homes elsewhere on true Heavens. Angels, Valkyries, Celestial Spirits, Godly Attendants and such from all around the world make up their home in the floating Celestia. Debates about the nature of good, the duties of heaven and what it should look like and thus what Paradiso should look like tend to rage between the many different celestials hanging around. Good, dying souls may be caught by a small subset residents of Paradiso who will then incarnate them and try to have them pick their corner of Heaven as the one they want to reside in, offering amazing spa treatments, relaxation and the like. Some Wards don't like it when Paradiso floats above them as the city may cast a huge shadow over their homes. Funnily enough, the Hollow love when Paradiso floats over them, safeguarding them from the sun but the people of Paradiso tend to dislike the Hollow so they keep away most of the time.

  • Underland: Underneath Starline lies Underland, called Inferno by most of the demonic population, ward of all that lies in the legendary Underworlds. Some undead and many demons reside within, some partying, some fighting, some maintaining prisons for the worst of offenders in Starline and relishing in the task. Some, however, live quite a regular life even as demons in their neighborhoods. However, beyond demons there are many inhabitants of other myths, such as from the Egyptian and Greek Pantheon, people who preside the Underworld and debate with Paradiso for trying to snatch all the good souls. Still, this can be one of the rowdiest of Wards.

  • Subterra: Close but separate from Underland, Subterra is the Ward of those dwelling underground but away from demons and the underworld. Dwarves, Gnomes, Drow, Miners, lovers of the gems and the Earth make Subterra and it's long, deep collection of tunnels their home. Furthermore, though a longer route, you can pretty much find a tunnel from Subterra to any other ward aside from Paradiso for obvious reasons.

Those are the main wards that come to mind at the moment, though I still need to make one themed around the ancient Middle East, one of European Medieval Nobility and certainly a lot more themed around other concepts. However, it can be inferred that there are all kinds of wards spread all around Nova.

Thus is the stage for all sorts of messes and trouble. The hero for Avalon may be one who attacks Silicon Street and is hated by them, or Star from Silicon Street may attack the megacorps and laugh as he steals from their reserves of money or destroys their equipment. One can be an unrepentant villain attacking everywhere to gather resources for his next ploys and to live the life they wish for. One can be part of a band wanting to do their next concert on the very heart of the city, only for a rival group to do their best to foil the concert.

Well, if there is any interest in this RP, here is a character sheet to fill. Though I will remind everyone that this is very much a Sandbox RP and will depend on people making up their plots, stirring problem on their own. I can't make up plots and situations for everyone to be entertained all the time. Try to give your character lots of motivations and possibly relationships to pursue and enjoy and fight for.

  • Name: What is your name? Include aliases if any.
  • Gender: Male, female, both, alien, neither, ovipositor, tentacles, brain childs, energy beings?
  • Species: Just what are you? Can just name or also explain.
  • Appearance: What do you look like? What do you tend to wear? As a Star or casual as well works.
  • Personality: What do you act like? How do you face the world? How do you think?
  • Ward: In which Ward does your character live or most reside and identify with?
  • Goals: Something your character wants to accomplish.
  • Bonds: Important field. What are you passionate about? What drive you? Name concepts as well as people, favorite locales, food... anything that is precious to you. What you would fight for and defend. Includes concept such as Justice or something as silly as which is the best mexican food restaurant in Nova or how do you eat your eggs.
  • Enemies: If Bonds are what you love and defend, there are surely stuff you dislike. It doesn't have to by a burning hate, but it can be just who you'd most like to bother and cause mayhem to. A Silicon Street Star may just simply be unable to stand those dreary Hollow Folk and go with a paint gun to draw rainbows in their city.
  • Powers and Abilities: What can you as a Star? Most everyone can fight, but in what manner and using what is your style? Do note that roughly all Star characters will be of the same power level, affected by different situations, their level of enthusiasm, support and the like.
  • Assets: What do you own, where do you live and the like.
  • Bio: What has your life being so far in Starline?

That would be it for what I have so far of the game... so Interest? Recommendations? Questions? Whatever it is, share it and we can work on it.

I have interest. I got ideas for characters, but I think I'll wait for other folks to throw their guys in first so I can have someone to play off of first.

  • Name: Avery "Jet Setter" Snyder
  • Gender: Female
  • Species: Dirty stinkin' humie
  • Appearance: In casual attire, Avery fits the phrase 'mouse-like' very well. Slight and of middling height, she peers through thick-lens glasses with deep brown eyes and often has her tangled brown curly hair pulled back in a messy ponytail. She wears tacky clothes that are just decent enough to avoid the angry glare of the fashion police. All-in-all, she looks far smaller than she is, as apparent by her life as a Star. She wears the Jet Setter Mk II (she made a few adjustments to the original). She stands tall under the suit, looking to be over 6' tall.
  • Personality: Avery and Jet Setter are almost completely opposites in terms of personality. Avery is very withdrawn, often seen muttering and mumbling to herself and generally looking pensive and reclusive. Jet Setter, meanwhile, is filled with near boundless amounts of energy. She'll throw herself at any and every task with incredible gusto, whether it be fighting off a purse-snatching thug or taking a fellow Star up on an offer for coffee some time. Acting first and thinking later, seems to be a mantra for Jet Setter while the reverse is true when she is out and about as Avery. In actuality, her true personality is far more like Jet Setter's but she fears how others would look on it if they knew it was her.
  • Ward: Avery is trapped in Pleasantville. While old enough to move out on her own, she is incredibly worried about her mother, still mourning the death of her husband and Avery's father. Her mother refuses to leave Pleasantville, as it has too many precious memories of her beloved husband. Avery, on the other hand, hates the place and all of its, according to her beliefs, faux-charm. Something about the place doesn't sit well with her and that isn't just her feeling weighed down by all the normalcy.
  • Goals: Avery wants to continue the Jet Setter legacy and do her departed father proud. She seeks to fight for justice and maybe somehow convince her mom to move out of Pleasantville to somewhere more progressive. Oh and also become besties with some other Stars.
  • Bonds:
    • JUSTICE!: Avery's role as Jet Setter is to further her father's legacy. And his legacy... was justice. Or at least, that sounds cool enough to be true. Avery wants to protect the citizens of Starline City by doing the right thing.
    • Ma: Avery's mother is one of the most important people in the world to her, being her only living family. While she can frustrating in her seemingly unending grief, Avery loves her and would drop being Jet Setter if it ever endangered her mother. She spends a lot of time looking after her, as she continues to reel from the loss of her husband.
    • Pizza Nova: Her father's other, less glamourous legacy was being the best delivery man, and later the best manager, at the best pizza shop in Starline City (Note: These are the opinions of the character; they do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the writer). While Avery doesn't have the skillset to fill these particular shoes, she seeks to try and help Pizza Nova continue its success by making sure to 'subtly' drop hints that you should all go grab pizza at Pizza Nova, the best pizza in Nova.
  • Enemies:
    • Evil-Doers: JUSTICE! is great. People who hate justice... not so much. Jet Setter will punish the jerks and protect the civilians.
    • People Who Are Always Mopey: Sort of... It is more the bad vibes themselves than the people. It is so much more fun to just be happy and energetic than brooding all the time. Plus, her mom fills her daily quota of self-loathing and sadness.
    • People Who Wear Socks & Sandals: Why.
  • Powers and Abilities: The Jet Setter Mk II is a state of the art super armour that has many useful (and many more useless) functions. These include general increased strength and stamina for the wearer, easily stored in a backpack or suitcase, multiple miniature jet engines installed in both the arms and legs for high speed maneouverability, a voice modulator, a facemask with at least 23 different sets of emoticons available, Green-Tooth support, "mad bumping" stereo system, and the patented Hands-Free In-Helmet Coffee Brewmeister Mk XVI(c). For those days when you need a bit more caffeine with your daily dose of justice.
  • Assets: Avery owns most of the usual stuff a youth in Pleasantville would. She also owns the Jet Setter Mk II, an underground workshop where she does maintenance and improvements on the Jet Setter Mk II, and numerous patents under the pseudonym Ivan Clark Weiner.
  • Bio: Avery was born to a secret Star father and his highschool sweetheart. The story of how they met was one Avery could recite from memory and was finally no longer gagging through. They lived in Pleasantville, out of which Avery's father, Jerome "Jet Setter" Snyder, opperated as a Star. He might not have been the biggest name since the Hero, but he was respected and liked by many. He revealed his secret to his wife and only daughter a week before he was found dead outside his work at Pizza Nova ("The Best Pizza in Nova"). While the idea of finding his killers had wandered into Avery's mind, she pushed it aside. She read way too many books than to fall into the pitfall of revenge. Instead, she decided to make the Jet Setter name an even better one. Putting her incredible scientific mind to use, she made a few modifications to the Jet Setter. Now that they are complete, Avery has but onetwothree goals: Bring glory to the Jet Setter name, make Starline City a better place, and make some new friends.

EDIT: Expanded Bonds and Enemies.

  • Name: Throttle
  • Gender: Male
  • Species: Human
  • Appearance: Throttle is of mostly average height, around 5 feet and 10 inches. He has hazel eyes and short blond hair, which is usually a mess. He's fairly well-built as well, and quite fit. His attire mainly consists of a black hoodie with yellow highlights, a pair of boots, a pair of black jeans with a few tears, and a black cap. All stolen, of course.
  • Personality: Throttle lives for destruction, in an almost simple-minded manner. Cries of terror and anguish are music to his ears. He revels in his evildoings, and he will let everyone know by laughing his ass off. He is also arrogantly confident in his powers. Believing himself to be unmatched, he will smugly put down anyone who even thinks of defying him. As ruthless as he acts however, he is not without mercy. Those who submit to his will get off with a slap on the wrist, but those who are defiant will be turned into roadkill.
  • Ward: These days, Throttle tends to hit up Silicon Street and Nova, with more emphasis on the former than the latter.
  • Goals: To destroy as much of the city as possible, beginning with the Hero Tower. He also aims to create his magnum opus.
  • Bonds: As previously mentioned, Throttle lives off of destruction. Of course, he destroys things because he likes it, so it can also be said that he lives for himself. He's also very enthusiastic about cars, and machinery in general. He also dabbles his hand in art, and is currently looking forward to completing his brand new masterpiece.
    • The Conductor: During Throttle's short stay in Starline, he and The Conductor have come to an understanding. Now The Conductor has become one of the only people in Starline that Throttle is willing to respect.
  • Enemies: If there's one thing Throttle cannot stand, it is heroes, especially those who go on and on about "justice". That really pisses him off. That is why he wants to destroy Hero Tower, because where most people just see a tower, he sees a tower-sized middle finger. That tower pretty much stands for everything he hates, and he would love to just blow it up. He's also got a bone to pick with Pleasantville. They've had it too good for too long.
  • Powers and Abilities: Throttle possesses Automancy, and can control vehicles with his mind. The degree of control can be anywhere from basic car functions that anyone can do from behind the wheel, to taking parts away from a car and controlling them, to just lifting a car and throwing it at people. And it's not just cars. Now that he is at his full power, he can extend his control toward buses, trains, and even tanks. Of course, there are limits. He can only lift a few buses at a time, maybe two or so tanks, and lifting even a single train will leave him pretty winded. Distance, of course, also factors into his degree of control.
  • Assets: Throttle doesn't really own anything. He mostly just steals what he needs.
  • Bio: It was a few months ago that Throttle blew into Starline from another city. Whether he had decided that he had wreaked enough havoc there or was actually driven out is unclear, but what matters is that he is now preparing to take Starline by storm. For the past few months, he had been laying low, steadily growing his powers and gathering allies. And now, he is ready to show Starline city true terror, and give all its denizens a throttling.

Note: Throttle has a totally awesome super ultimate duper secret evil plan. If anyone is making a villainous character and wants a piece of the action, just PM me. There's room for three people in the plan.

I saw "female Kitsune" and I was like "Yo I gotta make an Oni now" except that it sorta spiraled out of control from there. I'm happy with what I've made of this guy.

  • Name: Cen Honja
  • Gender: Male
  • Species: Oni. Pretty damn varied as a species, but at least with enough consistency to be thought of as "big ogre-dudes with the crazy teeth and eyes and hair and skin colors."
  • Appearance: Cen is a dark red Oni, about 5 and a half feet tall. He has wild, writhing dark hair like many Oni, and can't ever seem to get it to behave. His face is mashed-in and puglike like many Oni, and he has a pair of short tusks coming out of his mouth. He has a thick, muscular body, and his shoulders sculpt up into his neck so much that the distinction between the two's a little hard to figure out sometimes. He typically wears casual shorts and t-shirts with slogans like "HASTE. RESOLUTION. HONOR." and practical sneakers. If it's particularly windy out or his hair might otherwise become an issue, Cen puts on a baseball cap and threads his hair into a ponytail and out through the hole in the back. He has a pair of tiny vestigial horns that typically are hidden under his bangs.
  • Personality: Cen approaches the world with confidence, bravado, and positivity. He doesn't think the world can beat you or get you down if you don't let it. He thinks that anyone can get into pro wrestling, but that different people approach its appeal differently—whether that be laughing at it or enjoying the struggles of the fighters. One of his favorite angles is to point out that the SWF is basically just a live-action anime. Cen believes in the struggle of the weak to defeat the strong, but that strong folks should also help the weak however they can. If that happens to be a charity event or some free tickets to a fight, well, that's what he's gotta do.
  • Ward: The Avalon-Orie Border, in a borough filled with monsters like him known as The Ogre Quarter.
  • Goals: Gain renown and a real fandom before the night of his fight in 3 weeks; he wants to break records for attendance and keep those numbers high in future performances. He also needs a nemesis; maybe he can bring in someone from outside the SWF to fight him.
  • Bonds:
    • The Starline Wrestling Federation. More than just a fighting ring, Cen sees it as a dedicated acting troupe of performers willing to put their bodies on the line for a compelling show with a sprawling continuity and outlandish, entertaining characters that bring color to the lives of people who might otherwise not be in the best of situations.
    • His fans. They need him, but Cen needs then just as much.
    • The Nova Bards' College. They're where he learned to fight and perform, simultaneously. Gotta respect your elders and your teachers.
    • The Ogre Quarter. More important than the teachers, you also gotta respect where you came from.
  • Enemies:
    • Can't stand criminals and bullies, especially those driven by cynicism. Why would you want to live a life so full of darkness and depression?
    • Those weird japanophiles that don't get that he's just some guy. They're easy enough to correct, but this sorta just extends to all those racists that don't get that they're racist. Or the willfully racist ones; he gets enough crap for being a 'monster,' he doesn't need reminding.
    • Those "stay in your lane" types. Cen had to put up with a lot when he joined the Bards' College, and then focused his Performance into wrestling, he certainly doesn't need reminded that most Oni are club-wielding brutes.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Martial Training: Cen is trained extensively in hand-to-hand combat. Wrestling is distinctly not "play-fighting;" Cen knows how to deliver a beating to someone and make sure they hit the ground hard. He is proficient in a variety of punishing holds, and while he isn't quick on his feet Cen can use his raw muscle to deliver punishing headbutts, tackles, and body-blows to ensure his opponent feels the hurt.
    • Bardic Lore: All Bards channel their power through Performance, be that acting or acrobatic shows or music or, in Cen's case, wrestling. His more ostentatious moves push the angle that he's using Bardic Magic too; however, unlike a typical Bard's music, Cen's "Performance" is contained in his special moves.
      • Five-Fist Mist: Cen announce the Five-Fist Mist, then hold his right hand in front of his face to channel the incantation through his Wrestling Performance. A rune appears on the back of his hand, and for a brief period any right-handed attacks he makes get echoed five times in one-second intervals with ghostly fists of green energy.
      • The Tengu Shuffle: Cen tells stories of his Tengu neighbors, the Jigoros, as he takes a beating. Should he finish a heartwarming story about his neighbors, he can buff himself with defensive gusts of wind that increase his agility and reduce his friction with the ground, allowing him to slide along the ground for a short period of time.
  • Assets:
    • A modest car, a dark orange sedan with a sleek look that's equal parts Orie and Silicon Street
    • A beat-up secondhand phone that could probably survive an atomic bomb
    • Plenty of both nice and casual clothes for public appearances
    • A basic, usable computer for email and social media
    • A house in the Ogre Quarter, a few blocks away from his folks
  • Bio: Cen grew up in the Orie-Avalon border, on a street populated primarily by Oni, Orcs, Ogres, and Tengu known as the Ogre Quarter. They were a diverse crowd, but they were all brought together by their nature as monsters. This diverse culture drove him to want to collect all this knowledge, share that with everyone else, and he decided to go to Nova's Bards' College, a place where any kind of Performance was permitted. It was here that he discovered Wrestling, a kind of Performance too anachronistic for any of the other Wards. He always had a penchant for both acting and show fighting, being a lot bigger than the other kids in his neighborhood, and in school plays he was the only person who could toss around the ogresses. Wrestling combined his two passions into a live performance of ideals and fisticuffs. He rose from amateur pit-fights with goofy intros to the Starline Wrestling Federation, and from there gained prominence in the SWF through his primary gimmick of being an archetypal Bard that used his training in the ring. Wielding a wide variety of Bardic magic, he pummeled his opponents with all sorts of magical empowerment from his home neighborhood, special moves whose significance in the climax of a wrestling Performance resembled the musical crescendos of an Avalon Bard's music. While he isn't a champion, Cen is considered an up-and-coming new boy. Recently, his management has told him to branch out; he's got a few weeks until his next match, and he has time to kill. Seeing all the heroes of Starline, he's decided to become a philanthropist and vigilante, righting wrongs on the street then going to all the charity events he can to help out the kids of Starline city—his main demographic.

Goals: Wants to be free from his demonic contracts.

Bonds: Depends on his mood but he is generally for individuality and freedom of choice and expression.

Assets: Lives in a haunted castle ruins in the Hollow where he stores ingredients for alchemy and various magical ritual materials. Zombies and spirits patrol the grounds and only the Lich can get in and out without being attacked.

Bio: He can't really remember his previous life, but he was recently (about thirty years ago) raised from the dead by demons to serve as their emissary and to desroy anyhting preventing his demon masters from invading Starline.. He was offered a contract and he signed it. The contract stated that he was to get several magical powers (some hidden to be revealed later on) and immortality, in exchange he was to serve the demons whims and carry out any task they ask of him. He opposes acting with malevolent intent against other sentient beings, but will do so if ordered by his masters.

Can we provide concepts to be incorporated (like an artificial race or organization)? Besides that, could we have two characters? I wanted to use both a demonically tainted Magi-Knight and an Angelic Magical Girl thing.

  • Name: Mattrin Crossgate

  • Gender: Male

  • Species: Approximately 80-85% human.

  • Appearance: Mattrin is a noble knight of massive stature, clad in thick and impressive masterwork steel. The image is not meant to be an exact representation, just an idea of his general aesthetic. He stands over seven feet tall outside his armor and nearly eight within it. Rumor has it that a giant's blood flows somewhere in his family's heritage but Mattrin neither confirms nor denies such idle talk. He has a chiseled, angular face with a strong jawline and short, straight black hair; his skin is unnaturally pale from lack of exposure to sunlight, for he rarely ventures outside without his armor. Most people won't see his face anyways, though, for that same reason.

  • Personality: Mattrin's honor and dignity as a knight of the realm comes first. Some have pointed out that it's not exactly clear what sort of code he adheres to when he claims to be defending his honor, but Mattrin scoffs at the blathering of such ignorant folk. A true knight knows in his heart what must be done. Mattrin enjoys courtly words well enough, but he prefers to remain silent and observe if placed into an unfamiliar situation.

  • Ward: As-of-yet-unnamed medieval European/high fantasy ward, which may or may not be a sub-division of Avalon as opposed to a separate ward all its own.

  • Goals: Mattrin seeks to slay vicious beasts and complete noble quests to earn favor from the nobility and the hands of fair ladies. The gold showered upon the accomplishments of a mighty knight doesn't hurt either, but that is not his primary motivation, of course. Those who would dare insult his prowess or his honor, or do a disservice to the realm, will be put to rest at the point of his blade.

  • Bonds: Mattrin fights for the ideals of Order. All things in their place.... and all people in their place, as well. It is the natural Order that many folk will be common, and those many will serve the great. Tradition must be observed, and the rule of law must be respected. Those who would dishonor such sacred authorities are foul and corrupt.

  • Enemies: Mattrin has many enemies, for there are many who would oppose the noble forces of Order and Honor. He has fought great beasts, dueled against devious vampires and evil sorcerers, even faced down a dragon or two in his time. Any who commit wanton destruction or fight only for personal gain are without honor, and to be struck down; but so are those who spout the misguided ideals of "equality" or "fairness," concepts by which the weak would seek to shackle the strong. Cowards who rely on sophisticated weaponry or dark magicks earn his scorn as well, even when their goals align with his own.

  • Powers and Abilities: Mattrin wields in one hand a great blade and in the other a tower shield nearly the size of a normal man. Ancient magicks weaved into the metal of his armor give it a strength beyond any natural metal; it deflects all but the mightiest blows, and seems never to tarnish or dent. In addition to this durability, the armor is insulated against extreme temperature changes and electrical currents so as to counter wicked sorcerers and their unnatural spells. Mattrin's own strength matches his size and the quality of his gear, and he is skilled in both the knightly arts of swordplay and of bashing one's foes with shield or gauntlet. A nimble opponent might evade him for a time, but they always make a mistake eventually.

  • Assets: Mattrin owns a grand manour outside the castle of a noble lord, complete with sparring fields and only a few miles from the kingdom's largest tournament grounds. He is not of the nobility himself, but has been raised as one of their highest vassals for his service and valor. He has a force of servants which attend to his estate while he is out questing, and sees that they are well-off and comfortable in exchange for their loyalty.

  • Bio: It was when Mattrin was still a boy that he witnessed Sir Roderick of the Long Whiskers, one of the greatest knights in history, defend his village from being devoured and set aflame by an elder drake. The creature's fangs and claws could not break Sir Roderick's shining steel plate, and while its fire singed away the ends of his famous moustache, it could not claim his life. When Mattrin saw Sir Roderick standing atop the monster's bloodied corpse, blade raised in victory and surround by the praise and adulation of the villagers, he knew what he would do with his life. Allegations that Mattrin's unnatural size and strength have lent him an unfair advantage in his rise through the order of the kingdom's cavaliers are, of course, absurd. It is his commitment to justice and his noble heart which has brought him such success and fortune, as any honorable man can see.

Bit of an odd character, tonally. Kind of a Kamen Ghost Rider I suppose.

  • Name: Hugh Santos (Eidolon)
  • Gender: Male
  • Species: Undead human - normally appears to be a regular, albeit unageing, human but can temporarily change into a ghostly form.
  • Appearance:
    • As a human: Hugh looks likes a fairly normal teenager, as he was 18 when he stopped ageing, with the exception of needing crutches to walk. He has deep red hair and wears fairly normal fashionable clothing, albeit almost exclusively in black.
    • As a ghost: He looks similar to his human form but pale and withered. His eyes also turn a deep black and the bottom of his legs become an unclear haze unless they're touching the ground.
    • As Eidolon: He stands (or more accurately, hovers) taller and wears a suit of technological armour. The suit has a black base with jagged white elements over it. The kneepads and shoulderpads have glowing purple around the edge and there is a large black sphere which absorbs light in a small radius embedded in the centre of the chest. The helmet resembles a gaping jaw, with glowing purple eyes peering out of the darkness.
  • Personality: Hugh is almost constantly cheerful, even when being happy is incredibly inappropriate. He's fairly friendly but can also be quite caustic when he doesn't like someone. He attempts to put on a more serious persona as Eidolon, presenting himself as a champion of justice, although he has been known to break character quite often.
  • Ward: Actually lives in Silicon Street but grew up in The Hollow (on the boundary of Festival Muerte) and identifies with its populace more.
  • Goals: As Eidolon, he seeks to stop others messing with death; many aim to use various methods to master immortality or resurrection, which he considers to be against the natural order. He also attempts to protect - or protect against - the undead whenever trouble arises, although he also acts as a more mundane vigilante.
  • Bonds:
    • Justice: He considers it crucially important to help the weak and fight evil. More specifically, he considers that the power he has means that he has the responsibility to use it wisely.
    • Family: Hugh cares deeply about family, although he only has one living family member. He cared deeply about his mother and was willing to forgive his father despite past transgressions.
    • Knowledge: He's naturally inquisitive and simply likes to learn things. As this includes people's dark secrets, this can cause trouble. He's also more apprehensive about secrets and lies, although willing to engage in them if necessary.
    • Happiness: Hugh considers it important to stay positive, as negative emotions easily cause weakness. He does, however, have a tendency to take this too far.
  • Enemies:
    • Dark magic: He has a particular hatred of dark magic, especially when used to defy death by immortality or resurrection (although he has no problem with healing or temporarily lengthening one's life without hurting others) as he considers this to be against the natural order and creates a massive risk of corrupting anyone who achieves such a goal. He considers his own unageing state to be a curse and considers it his responsibility to stop others achieving the same.
    • Unethical science: Just as he dislikes magic being misused, he's equally against those who use science to achieve dangerous levels of power.
    • Exploitation: He abhors those who abuse or manipulate others for their own gain. As a result, he's come into conflict with many megacorporations in Silicon and sham mystics in the Hollow.
  • Powers and Abilities: Hugh has gained various abilities due to his undead state.
    • Medium: He is able to see and commune with the ghosts of the dead and supernatural beings such as demons. He is able to block them out or target specific ones if need be.
    • Unageing: He now no longer ages, eternally having the body of an 18 year old. He only heals at a normal rate, however, so is not immortal.
    • Ghost form: Hugh is able to switch between human and ghost forms. The process takes a minute or so and as such can't be done during combat or similarly rushed situations. In this form he can fly and phase through thinner objects. (it depends on density as well as distance - for example, a wall is normally possible, a vault door would require more effort, but a whole mountain would be completely impossible). He is also able to only appear to particular people or be completely invisible but this doesn't work on anyone who is specifically looking for him, was aware of his presence before going into ghost form or has any kind of sensory powers or equipment. While he doesn't take physical damage in this form, enough force moving through him will force him back into human form.
    • Eidolon Transformation: He can use the Wraith Shifter to transform into an armoured form. This form also lets him fly (more observant people would notice that he only flies and hovers - he still can't walk normally despite the transformation) and provides physical protection.
      • Enhanced ability: As well as flight and physical protection, the form also makes him stronger and allows him to agilely move through the air.
      • Phantom Scythe: He can summon a large white scythe with a blade that emanates purple energy. It is capable of cutting through almost anything.
      • Adaptive Forms: Not an ability he has but rather a potential one. If he gains control of a powerful magical object, he could incorporate it into the Eidolon powers and gain an additional form he could transform into which would safely channel the item’s power, even if it was cursed.
  • Assets:
    • Wraith Shifter: A white belt which he can summon when needed. It has a large center piece which resembles a large mouth with sharp teeth. When he activates it, the mouth opens and reveals a glowing purple orb. From there, he can transform into Eidolon by declaring “Spirit Change!”
    • As he requires them to walk, he posses a pair of technologically advanced crutches. Functionally they aren’t much different to normal crutches but they can tightly attach to his arms or compact for storage if needed.
    • Hugh lives with his father in a reasonably sized apartment in Silicon Street. His father makes a good amount of money and works for a tech company so he has whatever mundane luxuries he wants within reason and a fair amount of gadgets such as computers, phones and tablets.
  • Bio: Initially, Hugh grew up with his mother in The Hollow; his father paid child support but considered him a mistake and otherwise wanted nothing to do with either of them. When he was a child, however, he was involved in a building collapse accident; when he was knocked unconscious he saw a foreboding figure in a deep gray cloak with a bony hand holding a long scythe. On waking he possessed a mysterious ability - he was able to commune with the dead. However, the incident also brought suffering, as he never healed completely and from them on needed crutches to walk. Word of his power spread and his mother used his power for money, charging people to receive messages from spirits. He was happy enough, until another terrible accident occurred when he was 18 years old. In searching for a specific ghost he accidentally found a demon, who was aggravated at the unintentional connection. The dark being lashed out at him and destroyed his home, as well as killing his mother. Hugh once again saw the mysterious cloaked figure and awoke trapped on the boundary of life and death - sometimes an unageing human, sometimes a ghost who can not pass on. His father, having since improved in moral fibre and wishing for forgiveness, took him in and the now unageing teenager uprooted his life and moved to Silicon Street. His father, now working at an advanced technology company, was interested in the boundaries between science and magic and created a special device, the Wraith Shifter, that allowed his son to channel his powers and transform into an armoured form. A few years have passed and now, despite the past tragedy and mystery in his life, Hugh remains unnervingly cheerful and fights crime as Eidolon.

I like Mattrin, him and Cen could have a really cool dynamic! Coincidentally I have once before also played a wrestler whose nemesis was an enormous not-quite-human knight in shining armor, though Cen has plenty of stuff differentiating him from El Jabali.

  • Name: Chiasa Bakatsunomonobo, the Black Dog
  • Gender: Female
  • Species: Crow Tengu
  • Appearance: Official Uniform and Traditional Garb
  • Personality: Chiasa is a selfish and sassy demon. It's very difficult to make her care about anything but herself. She cares about things like the thrill of battle, or the thrill of making love, precious and shiny objects and delicious food, and not much else. The way she presents herself comes across as apathetic it, but she can actually become easily over-dramatic to the simplest things such as dropping her ice-cream. She becomes bored very quickly, and has a passion for the finer things in life, like good food and elegant clothing and art. She respects power, but doesn't think anyone is more powerful than she is. She finds attempts to boss her around to be adorably futile. She has some very traditionalist views that she is not quick to give up.
  • Ward: Lives in Orie, works in Silicon Street.
  • Goals: To find powerful foes, expensive things to steal, thrills to be had, and to stop the encroaching of the already shrinking borders of Orie.
  • Bonds: Her culture and the people of Orie are very important to her. She also loves the art of war and strategy, and all forms of battle. She very much enjoys lovemaking, as well as music and dance. She loves fine clothing, as well as small animals and children.
  • Enemies: Ugly demons and trolls, weaklings, heroes and people that want to stand in the way of her fun.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Flight: Chiasa has two large, black wings that allow her to fly at high speeds.
    • Tengu Strength: Chiasa is very strong, able to lift a few tons above her own weight and deliver power crushing punches, kicks and holds on her enemies.
    • Tengu-Do: The Martial Art style of the Tengu, sharing similarities to Kabuki theater. Flashy style attacks that either end, or are executed, with exaggerated poses. Usually involving being on one foot with hands posed in front of the user. Some attacks also involving comedic style rolls and dances, or spins, that result in strong kick attacks. Very theatrical and boisterous.
    • Weapon Mastery: Chiasa, like all Tengu, is a master of many forms of weaponry and tactical war strategy. She has proficiency with swords, bows, and guns. Her main weapon of choice is a pair of pistols, and a long blade.
    • Crow Form: Through meditation and channeling magical energy, Chiasa can take on the form of a small crow for stealth. She can only assume this form at night.
    • Male Form: Chiasa can also shapeshift into the form of a handsome, muscular man with black wings, but she rarely uses this ability.
  • Assets:
    • Elegant traditional-style Japanese castle in Orie.
    • A private Hotsprings.
    • A huge, lavish wardrobe of tradtional japanese dresses, as well as modern contemporary clothing.
    • Access to a personal armory of both ancient and modern weaponry and espionage equipment.
    • A hi-tech communication device to speak to her assistant for database research and tactical analysis.
  • Bio: Chiasa is a 1015-year old Tengu, and when she was young, she stumbled upon a class of child students learning the art of swordsmanship. Already being a master swordsman herself, she picked out the youngest, weakest and most inexperienced student and made him her pupil, training him in secret at night. She had her way with the boy whenever she wanted, and was eventually discovered. She was chased and attacked by the people of the village, and seemingly killed. In the modern era, she was revived by the Secret Tactical Arcane Research Corporation, or S.T.A.R. Corp, known for their economic and philanthropic business endeavors in the worlds of modern magical medical research. In secret, they are actually a tactical and war-profiteering bureau dedicated to gaining knowledge of magical creatures, precious and powerful artifacts, and other important targets for the growth of wealth and power of all its members. Chiasa was enlisted as a high-ranking operative of this organization. In other words, Chiasa is a magic spy. She goes on missions for S.T.A.R. Corp, under the alias of Black Dog, eliminated or spying on important targets in the communities, stealthily stealing important items, and gaining combat data on magical creatures and monsters.

  • Name: Mary Mac Quillen, The Golden Goddess
  • Gender: Female
  • Species: Human
  • Appearance: Totally sweet mom or the bane of demons all?
  • Personality: Mary is a totally average housewife and mother. She is extremely sweet, innocent and detests violence. She avoids confrontation and doesn't like thinking about violent things or seeing people getting hurt. She just desires to be a good mom and to her kids safe, and to lead a comfortable, happy life. She's actually really naive about a lot of things, especially related to magic, isn't good at fighting, and is a huge klutz. She very much dislikes lewd conversations and situations, and is very easily embarrassed, especially about her body. Under the magical influence of the Goddess's Cross, Mary becomes much more pithy and on the side of justice, though still her naive bumbling self. She becomes more courageous and completely merciless in her quest to punish evil, especially demons. The longer she stays transformed, the more and more sadistic and possessive this desire for punishment becomes...
  • Ward: Lives in Pleasantville with her children.
  • Goals: To eliminate the evil threat of demons from Starline City, and to serve justice.
  • Bonds: Mary's greatest love and treasure is that of her two children. She also loves her home and her health. She loves pizza very much show. She respects the law enforcement as well as government. She likes the good benefits that technology brings. She very much believes in the freedom of religion, and the freedom of choice.
  • Enemies: Detests criminal and evil monsters. She has a very strong fear of demons, as well as a small self-loathing due to her dormant fetish for them.
  • Powers and Abilities: Mary is branded with a magical tattoo on her lower back, shaped like a cross. This is the Goddess's Cross, the emblem of the powerful hero who once held the title, bestowing upon the owner grand powers from the Heavens. The longer she uses the power, the more blind she becomes to her personality, only desiring to deal out punishment to sinners. Upon calling for the gift of power from the Heavens, Mary transforms into the Golden Goddess, gaining:
    • Wings of the Goddess: Mary gains eight, small angel wings that allow her to fly. The feathers that can be plucked from her wings have healing properties on those they tickle.
    • Body of the Goddess: Mary's body is changed to become taller, stronger, more agile, longer flowing hair, much curvier and more buxom. A form more fitting for a goddess.
    • Helm of the Goddess: A powerful helm that protects Mary's identity, and can not be broken or removed unless Mary has committed a grave sin and not confessed to it and asked for forgiveness.
    • The Seven Virtues: A magical weapon that can morph into seven different powerful forms.
      • Castitas, the Chains of Chastity: Mary becomes bound by shining, golden chains, binding all over her bound and making her unable to move. In exchange for power, Mary is given immense invulnerable to only the most powerful of dark magic.
      • Temperantia, the Shield of Temperance: A large, golden shield shaped like a cross that resists the hottest of fires. Returns to Mary when thrown, and can only be lifted by her hands.
      • Caritas, the Sword of Charity: A powerful, flaming sword that Mary can not wield. When held by someone else, it gives powers that match that of the Goddess's. Strength, agility and flight.
      • Industria, the Hammer of Diligence: A sturdy hammer that can bend any metal, and break any rock on earth.
      • Patientia, the Bow of Patience: A bow and arrow that never runs low and can cut through the strongest wind.
      • Benevolentia, the Whip of Kindness: A long whip that when wrapped around a foe, makes them more willing to understand and conversation than violence.
      • Humilitas, the Gauntlets of Humility: A pair of gauntlets that sacrifice all other abilities, transforming Mary back into a normal woman, in exchange for massive, unstoppable punching power.
    • To use these powers, Mary was live by three vows. She must never knowingly fraternize with a demon. She must remain faithful to the Heavens. And she must never kill an innocent soul. If she breaks any of these vows, angels from the Heavens will come down to take away her power, expose her completely and give up her body to the demons in Hell to do with her what they wish for all eternity.
  • Assets:
    • A comfortable, attractive home in Pleasantville with her two children, 15 and 8.
    • A family sedan.
  • Bio: About a century or so ago, in the age of the Great Hero, one of his most well-known allies was the Golden Goddess, a powerful female hero who was very beloved and respected for her sense of justice and knowledge, as well as her immense beauty. Against her wishes, a dark cult, the Cult of the Goddess was formed, in a desire to sacrifice the body of the Goddess to gain her beauty and power. Long after this hero died, in the modern age, due to her resemblance to the Goddess, Mary was kidnapped by the cult, tortured and almost sacrificed. The Heavens intervened, bestowing upon her the Goddess's Cross, and giving her the power to defend herself and stay alive, at a cost. She must live on as the Golden Goddess and help rid the threat of evil from Starline City.

Name: Cat Sith (or Cat Sidhe, Cat Si, or even just "Cat")

Gender: Indeterminate, but goes by "he/his/him" pronouns

Species: Either a fairy or a witch, depending on the source, Cat is content with being enigmatic

Appearance: A large (about 5 feet tall at the shoulder) black cat with green eyes and no whiskers.

Personality: Cat likes to watch things happen, and then cause more things to happen so that he can watch even more stuff. He is laid back, and likes to laugh— but what he finds funny, most others would consider... unfortunate. His morality and ethic isn't reality compatible with that of typical human society. And, like any cat, he likes to play with his food. He also has a job, of sorts, that he takes very seriously.

Ward: Cat Sith is probably (not even he knows for sure) from Avalon, but he frequents all districts. He is very fond of Pleasantville and the problems that can be stirred up in the suburban heart, and of the shadows that underlie every brightness on Silicon Street.

Goals: To perform his job, to trick "mortals", and to just... like... chill.

Bonds: Cats of all kinds— Cat Sith is bound, literally and metaphorically, to give aid to any cats that request it. The details are sketchy. Contracts— Anyone or anything can enter into a contract with Cat Sith, exchanging services or goods of equal value. Cat Sith also is tasked (see below) with punishing contract breakers everywhere. Loyalty— Cat Sith pays fealty to a strange being he refers to as "the Mistress". He hates her, and yet is also terrified of breaking one of her unknowable rules, understood only by him. She seems to have given him his mission.

Enemies: Contract breakers, mice, and bodies of water (Cat hates going to Ultramarine)

Powers and Abilities:

Soul Eating: Cat can eat souls that have been separated from the body (ghosts, etc.) and may also eat the souls of people who break contracts.

Weird Movement: Cat can walk on any surface (walls, ceilings, clouds, etc.) as if they were a solid floor.

Portals: Cat Sith can open a portal to anywhere on his current plane given he has been there before.

Immunities: Cat Sith does not age, and has a high threshold for damage from any source. He also requires no air, and can tolerate almost any pressure level.

Stealth: Cat Sith gives off no heat signature, and can become completely invisible.

Speech: Cat can speak like a human, and is proficient in any language that a contract may be written in. He can also commune with animals.

Assets: Cat Sith is technically, by virtue of some long-forgotten contract, the landowner of city block on Silicon Street, upon which has been built a particularly famous skyscraper. He is also head of the law firm that takes up the top four floors of the building. Cat Sith does not sleep.

Bio: The first thing Cat Sith remembers, or the first thing he will tell people about, is waking up on the roof of a small building in Nova, a great light above him. Here he met his mistress. That was 300 years ago. From that point on, Cat has stayed in the shadows, performing his function, and being entertained by a great deal. He has also become somewhat of a food connoisseur who has tasted everything, from vampire dust to mermaids.

OUT OF THE CROOKED TIMBER OF HUMANITY NO STRAIGHT THING WAS EVER BUILT
