Third Leaf - Megaman Battle Network RP Sign Up thread

The year is 20XX.

The infamous NetTerror organization Mitsuba Channel (3Chl) holds the entire world in its steely grip. They fight not under any true allegiance, but solely for mutual gain. Their purpose? To create chaos and anarchy through the Net and, by proxy, the material world.

While 3Chl exists as a nameless conglomerate of criminals, some form of governing is provided by “Moderators”, who only appear when the mysterious creator of 3Chl, null, desires a specific world-wide event to happen. 3Chl is not true anarchy, but instead it is shaped and directed chaos.

In May, 3Chl Moderator Vimana, through his NetNavi ChameleoMan.exe, announced that null declared free reign to all of their subordinates so that they may wreak havoc upon the world in the advent of Mitsuba Channel’s New World. Immediately, 3Chl controlled Virus outbreaks have appeared across the globe. Some say 3Chl has even gained control of some of Doctor Hikari’s Dimensional Core Generators, others say they’ve taken over what was left of World Three. Regardless of any sort of allegation, it is clear that Mitsuba Channel is a threat to global safety.

In response, Lloyd Schwarz, CEO of Redion Incorporated, a multinational NetSecurity conglomerate, created a specialized force for the protection of the net: the Redion International Taskforce (RIT). Influential NetBattlers, High Ranking Redion Officers, Technicians, SWAT officers. Any walk of life that could help combat Mitsuba Channel was searched and sifted through to hand pick members of RIT.

You, among countless others, have been selected to be a member of RIT. Your NetNavi has been equipped with the latest upgrades Redion Incorporated could provide. If you didn’t have a customized NetNavi before, you’ve been given one custom-tooled to your specifications and interests.

Your mission is to tear down Mitsuba Channel and save the Net by doing so.

You heard me right! A Megaman Battle Network RP! You’ll be working in collaboration with each other to takedown Mitsuba Channel, under the direction of your Mentor (who’ll be introduced in the first post mind you).

You’ll be making two sheets here, one for your NetOp (your NetNavi’s operator) and for your NetNavi (Internet Navigator) itself. Remember, your NetNavi always needs to have “.exe” at then of its name, but you never really call your own NetNavi that. When you make one, you have one of two options: Either you make your own, original NetNavi, or you choose a pre-existing Megaman Robot that was never in Battle Network to begin with. This can include Robot Masters or Mavericks from the Megaman X franchise. Just don’t pick a protagonist (Like X or Zero).

As a note, for convenience’s sake, your character has to come from Netopia. It’s America crossed with Europe. This doesn’t mean your character has to be white, or what have you; Netopia is a melting pot of culture. It just makes things easier if they’re from the same country.

As a note, PETs (Personal Terminals) look much like touchscreen phones. They feature holographic displays to enable further interaction with one’s NetNavi. They are held horizontally, and battle chips are fed into the right side of it. This is the PET S1. It may connect using wireless technology, but it doesn’t hurt to yell out “Jack In!” once in a while for show.

• Name: Faro Morris
• Gender: M
• Age: 22
• Appearance: Faro is a short dude with dreads and dark skin, only five feet tall. He has a pierced nose, and wears a lot of comfortable second-hand clothes that aggressively assert his informality.
• Previous Occupation: Senior Modern Sociology Major
• Personality: Faro is above all inquisitive; his Senior Thesis is riding on this, after all! He needs to know details in enumerated and specific order, and needs to make sure everything he and others have to say is backed up. He tries to find the social and cultural background to everything; he never thinks people make decisions entirely of their own.
• Bio: Faro and his father immigrated from Netfrica to Netopia for his father's job when Faro was very young. As a Netfrican in Netopia, Faro felt like an outcast, the whole time. He found solace in academia, and netbattling. He could see both of these activities under systems, stuff that people couldn't make objective judgments on like social interactions—people had rules to listen to. Chill Penguin struck him as a great Navi because he'd never been to anywhere cold before, much less seen a penguin in real life. The Navi's fidgety, impatient nature also made him a great motivator for work. Faro made it into college, and for his Senior Thesis he seized on this moment—he would write an article about his time in RIT, and hope like hell that he would get a good grade for this by analyzing the play between all these different people forced to work together for the fate of the Net.

• Inspiration: Chill Penguin
• Appearance: Chill Penguin isn't very tall—the top of his head is about up to a normal humanoid Netnavi's chest. He makes up for that in width, because he is a big fat penguin. His beak protrudes about six inches out of his face, and he wears a thick helmet with a visor for his eyes. The visor continues down into armor covering where the black bits would be on other penguins. His feet are flat and rectangular, but not flippers, and his wings can separate or divide into fingers. He has a red tube coming out of the back of his neck, which leads to a pair of cylinders on his back.
• Personality: Chill Penguin gets bored easily—in spite of his name, he actually isn't chill. He fidgets a lot and tries to keep moving all he can. He's indignant over any criticisms he receives, thinking it's all because he's a new animal-type Net Navi. He likes to fight, but only if it accomplishes something—violence to prove a point or to save a life or something. Mostly to prove superiority.

• Name: Jack Ursa
• Gender: Male
• Age: 17
• Appearance: Jack has midnight black hair and sea blue eyes. He has the physique of a slightly muscular young man and is about 5'8". He usually wears a black shirt with a grey jacket, as well as jeans and white shoes with blue details. He usually carries a skateboard with him to quickly get from place to place.
• Previous Occupation: Civilian
• Personality: Jack is a essentially a normal 17 year old. He greatly enjoys Net Battles and hacking. He has trouble opening up to others and is a little shy. When he is behind a computer screen, he has absolute confidence and can often be found hacking.
• Bio: Jack Ursa has been with his dad all his life. His father was a military computer analyst and was often gone from the house. Jack developed a bad habit of using his dad's computer to hack into military databases and play pranks on the other analysts. That was before his father disappeared last year. Jack searched for anything that would give him a clue as to the location of his father. This led him to find designs for a NetNavi on his dad's computer, from which he made Vile.exe. They have recently received a tip that the Mitsuba Channel may have some information as to his father's whereabouts. They are now on their way from Netopia to search for answers.

• Personality: Vile is a very energetic Navi, always itching for a fight. He has a very short fuse and more than a few anger problems, not unlike his Operator. Vile loves fighting and HATES losing. He often has problems accepting losses and is not one for patience or talking.

• Custom:
  • V-Blaster: Vile generates a cannon which can spawn of his shoulder or in place of his hand. This cannon shoots rapid fire and is surprisingly light, despite being about the size of a rifle.
  • Ride Armor: Vile's body grows into a form as big as Gutsman.exe. This Armor gives Vile many weapons and more strength, but makes him much slower.

• Appearance: Slightly-tanned skin with black, curly hair and brown eyes, stands at 5'6" with a lightly muscular build. Clothing is often basic but light; A green hoodie or jacket, often concealing a black t-shirt featuring the logo of whatever band or artist he's listening to the most that day. Wears blue jeans and green-accented tennis shoes. Often seen with large, bulky green headphones around his neck which plug into his PET.

• Personality: Mike is a laid-back, joyful guy who just likes to go with the flow. Though he's often found with his headphones up, listening to his music at full blast, he loves to talk with others and is a great listener. Though he loves all forms of music, his absolute favorite genre is Electro Rock.
• Bio: Coming from a family of distinguished, traditional musicians, Mike has always had a profound interest in music since the day he was born. However, instead of having an interest in instruments, Mike enjoyed the creation of music from his fingertips; composing music through the use of his computer and the tech of today was much more exciting than playing the piano or a violin. Though his parents never really saw eye-to-eye for his preference to 'electronic' music, they did give him a fully customized Net Navi, personalized to aid in music, at the age of 10. He instantly grew attached to this program, which went by the name of Beatman.exe. Two years later, Mike and Beat had their first Net Battle. A simple fight against a bully in middle school, which nonetheless sparked a great enthusiasm within the two. Net Battles made them feel truly in sync with one another. Fast-forward another 6 years, just after high school, the two had a high record of won battles under their belt. Mike found himself and Beatman selected by RIT. Although music was still the two's greatest passion, it didn't hurt to have an actual job to sustain themselves on either, so Mike went with it.

• Gender: Male
• Appearance: A heavily music-based Navi, it shows a lot in his design; Large, brass-like headphones covering where ears should be, with a visor the conceals the Net Navi's eyes. The rest of his head is obscured by a green helmet, with only the bottom-half of his face uncovered. When in a serious battle, a mouthguard appears as well, fully covering his face. Has a standard, human-like build, similar to Megaman or Protoman, mostly in black and green. Black wires feed from his headphones to a white fusebox on his back. His insignia is a three arcs spreading out like a soundwave.
• Personality: Unlike his Operator, Beat is much more energetic and active, always tapping his foot or bobbing his head to an imaginary rhythm. He was designed to greatly enjoy music, and he often is listening to the same track that Mike is listening to. Although he can perfectly hear people while listening to music, sometimes he may get a little to wrapped up in it, in which case he'll need to be snapped out of his groove.
• Affinity: Elec
• Custom:
  • Sound Wave: Releases a visible wave of sound which spreads out around an area. It loses impact the further it is away, but the closer one is to Beat, the more it hurts. Close up, it may also momentarily paralyze the opposing Navi.
  • Up-Tempo: For a short period of time, gives Beat a great increase in speed, also allowing for the faster input of Battlechips.

• Name: Rai Barton
• Gender: Male
• Age: 17
• Appearance: Dark Black pants and a Black uniform jacket undone, white undershirt, coarse black hair and slightly pale skin, squared chin and bright blue eyes.
• Previous Occupation: Student and Hacker
• Personality: Reserved and calm , generally a friendly person to be around. However sort of a cheater and a playful attitude when it comes to messing with coding. Takes on a different persona when netbattling, becoming a hammy over the top commanding "villain" of sorts, tends to be quite friendly after a match.
• Bio: Rai's family moved to Neotopia when he was 5 when his father got a job at a new computer company, this notably gave Rai access to computers at a young age. This notably had some effect on him as he got older and learned coding, he took great pride in being able to mess with another computer's systems no matter how long it took, this got him into trouble quite a bit. He grew out of this as he grew older but Rai still likes to test his skills with his Navi Assault_Gear from time to time.

• Appearance: Armored Frame, masked face with a set of combat goggles, mechanical looking body, thick military style trench coat over body, worn loosely.
• Personality: No Nonsense and to the point, Gear rarely drops his reserved attitude and is typically very stoic, despite this he is loyal to Rai and quite pleased to be his Navi and would not have it any other way though he does take issue with Rai's hacking tendencies. Of note one of the few things that makes him smile is combat and netbattling.
• Affinity: Fire
• Custom:
  • Arsenal Assault: Gear gains a power up and a specialized rifle based weapon for a all out attack on the enemy with multiple attacks at once.
  • Burn: Gear summons a specialized launcher that fires fire based grenades onto the enemy's space.

Assault Gear will get a image when possible.

• Name: Varya Kharitonova
• Gender: Female
• Age: 19
• Appearance: Varya is tall and slender, with pale skin, icy blue eyes and long light blue hair. Likes the cold, but bad with heat, so dresses lightly after moving to Netopia from Sharo.
• Previous Occupation: Government Official (member of the Sharo Cyber Defence Force)
• Personality: Quiet and somewhat reserved, Varya might strike people as cold or anti-social. But in truth, she's very cheerful, and loves teasing people. Especially Netbattling gets her in a good mood. Not good with housework, and in particular does not like cooking or tidying up after herself. Loves good food, however, so she's fond of eating out.
• Bio: Varya was born and raised in the snowy country of Sharo, her mother a researcher at the space observatory lab and her father a programmer. Because of her parents' busy jobs, Varya spent a lot of time on the Net and her Navi became something of a younger sister. Her Netbattling and programming skills grew, and she was early on scouted for a position as an Official Netbattler and when she finished school, she started straight in a job at the Sharo Cyber Defence Force as a government junior agent. However, the Force was hit by budget cuts and Varya lost her job after just a year on the Force. Bored, and looking for a job as exciting, she was approached by Rediron, and she immediately accepted and moved to Netopia.
• Skills: Accomplished net-battler, highly skilled in creating net defenses and tracing enemy signals, also somewhat skilled hacker.

• Personality: Like her Operator, Leviathan is playful and likes Netbattling, but she's somewhat more on the sadistic side and has no problem choosing a "dirtier" way of fighting rather than having a clean one-on-one. Has shown tendencies to get flirty with other Navis, which Varya insists is a programming bug she hasn't solved yet. Leviathan is very thorough when working, however, and is especially skilled at protecting systems and setting up defensive routines.
• Affinity: Water, with Wood Armour. (To explain, Leviathan and other Ice-bosses in the Zero-games are weak to fire, not the other way as one might think. So I gave her Wood Armour (weak against fire instead of electricity) to reflect this. If you want me to change it, say the word.)
• Custom:
  • Ice Lance: Her spear can fire off a burst of three icicles. Charged up, it becomes an ice dragon that homes towards the enemy (like a Ratton chip)
  • Minefield: Leviathan can lay large balls of ice that explode into icicles upon contact. One of her favourite tactics is to lay mines, wait until the other Navi has to stop and then attack with her spear from above.

Here's hoping this doesn't weave too far into LORE-FRIENDLY territory.

Also; any nerfs that the GM can think of (which are probably going to relate to network admin knowledge and Axton's sentry, most likely) can be applied with gusto.

• Name: Fernando MacGuinness
• Gender: Male
• Age: 25
• Appearance: Perennially wearing long-sleeved shirts and jeans, Fernando is oftentimes seen with a jacket and a baseball cap on. He keeps himself ‘’somewhat’’ fit, though he’s nowhere near the peak of human condition. In winter, Fernando is often seen bundled up with heavy clothing – dude hates cold. Strangely, despite having a Spaniard's face, Fernando speaks with a light Irish accent.
• Previous Occupation: Network Administrator
• Personality: Fernando barely ever worries about big things. Some criticize him, stating that he’s not able to give important issues the attention they deserve. Others envy him, noting that he seems significantly less stressed out. For his part, Fernando only ever worries about a network’s uptime – when your biggest job issue is “oh shit the network’s down and it needs to get back up”, other, significantly more trivial matters become small-fry by comparison. Fernando is easy-going, quick to make friends, and difficult to rouse to anger, though it is known to happen.
• Bio: Having a rather ordinary life without much of note, Fernando was attracted more to the physical part of the Net. Code was truly amazing – after all, why else would Net Battling exist, and why else would he get involved often – but in the end, you can’t code if you have no hardware to code on. Fernando entered a post-secondary college that focused on the devices and hardware that made up networks, graduated, and ended up securing a job as a network technician, where he quickly ascended (through an aptitude for the role) into a network administrator. While he installed security software, in the end he paid for a custom-designed Navi to help police the network – Axton. Axton and Fernando’s skills helped make their network a very safe place, which got them noticed by RIT.
• Skills: Knowledgeable about network operations, hardware, and non-Navi security programs (which will probably come into play at some point), as well as network protocols (which likely won’t). Skilled netbattler, both by hobby and trade, with Axton.

Navi

• Name: RifleMan.exe
• Gender: Male
• Inspiration: Not that it’s a Megaman robot, but he is basically Axton from Borderlands 2, so…
• Appearance: RifleMan is a rather vivid green, though the exact lightness and darkness of the color depends on what part of him, exactly, you’re talking about (his torso, for example, is almost lime in its color, whereas his boots and gloves are darker than sage). On his left shoulder is what appears to be a targeting computer of some sort◊, though it’s really mostly superfluous. Elbow pads and knee pads dot his limbs, while his chest seems to be armored in similar style to a flak jacket. RifleMan’s helmet is shaped like a combat helmet, though it doesn’t have a chin strap; in combat a translucent orange visor drops over his eyes.
• Personality: Two words: “glory hog”. RifleMan loves fighting, taking on challenges, and the glory that comes from a hard earned win - which makes him perfect for lone-wolf network security. With a team, this'll often end up resulting in him waiting to call help so he can try to be a total badass via taking down the bad guy alone - which isn't to say he's incapable of working with a team; rather, he'll prioritize personal glory. RifleMan is also a notorious flirt - nobody really knows why.
• Affinity: None
• Custom:
  • TacBuster – RifleMan’s specialized buster program - this is a customized Buster, so it is not a chip. The weapon includes a nice, steeply angled grip for when RifleMan needs to steady shots, and has a muzzle brake protruding from the end that recoils when it fires. Notably, the Tac Buster fires in two round bursts at such a speed it’s almost as if RifleMan is shooting once.
  • AutoSentry – RifleMan tosses out a single-barrel sentry gun. The sentry gun steadily fires at any enemies it sees; though it can only remain out for a short period of time before it needs to recharge. The Auto Sentry may or may not be upgradable (at GM discretion), but it’s basically just a gun on a stick.

• Name: Io Stratos
• Gender: Female
• Age: 18
• Appearance: Average height with purple hair and green eyes.◊ She tends to wear the hood when she's on official RIT business. Makes her look more imposing.
• Previous Occupation: Student
• Personality: Io is an unsociable individual. Not because she is shy, but because she is apathetic. She acts like a mercenary of sorts in the ranks of RIT, not caring about the greater good they are trying to accomplish, but because she wants to keep Netbattling. It is this philosophy that allows her to understand Prometheus so well. However, she also has a code of ethics that she follows very closely. For example, she would never break a promise, and she always pays back a big favor.
• Bio: Io was born to a very wealthy family. As the firstborn child, her parents had great expectations for her, and she failed them at every turn. At first, she just took their yelling, but eventually she yelled back. There was no end to the arguments she would have with her parents, which often ended with slammed doors and very uncomfortable servants. Her parents soon had a second child, and this child was everything her parents wanted her to be. So while they doted on her sister, Io was ignored. She would be lying if she said she wasn't relieved, but she also fell into a state of depression. One day, a butler presented her with a present: a Navi called Prometheus.EXE. Influenced by his simple-minded yet insatiable thirst for Netbattles, she herself began to participate in more and more anonymous battles on the Net. They developed quite a record for themselves, and people eventually began to refer to Prometheus as "The Reaper". Perhaps it is because of this fame that they were scouted by the RIT. They tracked them and extended an invitation to join. She accepted.

• Appearance: A humanoid Navi, wearing mostly purple armor with a mixture of red and white. He has long cyan hair coming out of his skull-like helmet, trailing behind him like a cape. He is almost never seen without his signature blue scythe. His Navi mark is a purple triangle with a spiked base on top of a pale blue circle, and it can be seen on the front of his chest.
• Personality: Prometheus is a warrior through and through. He wants nothing more than the feeling of combat. He does not need a reason to fight, for fighting is the reason he lives. He shows no mercy in battle, and will continue to fight until one Navi is left standing, whether the other one has logged out, or been deleted, all the while having a sadistic smirk on his face. Prometheus is also extremely arrogant, and will have a mocking remark for almost everybody. Even so, Prometheus is still loyal to Io, and she is the only person that he will listen to.

  • Beam Scythe: Swinging Prometheus's scythe unleashes a wave of destructive force, obliterating everything in a straight line. (No element)
  • Flame Spears: Prometheus's hair changes form and plants itself into the ground, shooting up at the enemy in the form of multiple flaming spears. Tends to destroy the ground wherever they come up. Prometheus is also immobile when this happens. (Fire element)

• Appearance: She's a very tall woman at a towering 6'0, her skin a bit pasty and covered with freckles while her hair is a bright fiery red that is cropped short. She can be seen in almost any kind of attire, but she is always wearing an aviator jacket.

• Previous Occupation: Highschool Student

• Personality: Catriona is very upbeat and friendly towards everyone, always extending a hand of friendship to whoever she meets. However, she is a Cloudcuckoolander, being very ditzy and airheaded. Her scattered mind is very forgetful, to the point she'd forget her own Net Navi if she didn't notice.

• Bio: Catriona Tamm lived a pretty normal life with her parents, they lived out in the country where her father was a crop duster for a farm. However, a piloting malfunction caused his plane to crash. Her father barely survived and they had to move to Netopia for his hospital needs when she was 5. She'd start to take up various athletics and soon she'd buy her Net Navi from an older student when she was 13, who wanted to throw him out. Fast forward five years later, where she usually just saw Net Battling as a game for fun and never thought it could be a career. And now she was being noticed by RIT.

• Skills:
  • Skilled Netbattler. Despite what her ditzy nature would suggest, it makes her a wild card.

  • She has her Piloting Licence, heavily inspired by her Father. Obtained at age 16, has traveled to various places and battled.

Name: Storm Owl.exe

Gender: Male

Inspiration: Storm Owl from Mega Man X4

Appearance: A very round and tall Net Navi, his torso having green chest armor while his limbs are a more reddish color. His head shares this same coloring while his head is styled to look like a beret. He has short wings on his back with feathers that hang off his body like a robotic cape while his eyes are round and looked to be rimmed like goggles-or like an Owl. His hands appear to be just that: hands with white gloves while his feet are like talons.

Personality: A proper and stern 'man', Storm Owl talks with a militarist authority. He treats others with the utmost of respect-unless given a reason otherwise-and he looks to his friends as though he's family. Which is why when threatened or hurt, he will declare war on them as if he's the general of an army.

Affinity: Wind

Custom:

• Gale Force: Storm Owl lives up to his name and generates a vortex of air around him. This can repel enemies, obstacles, and Non-Elemental attacks.

• Homing Cyclone: Storm Owl creates balls of winds and fires them at targets. It's a homing attack, but only one of these orbs can be fired at a time.

Can I use Tron Bonne and the Servbots?

I suppose if you used Tron as the NetNavi, and then had a chip for summoning a Servbot to act as a barrier or turret of some sort, postentially

Well, I was thinking using Tron Bonne as the operator, because it fits more in line with her character I think, and then using the Servbots as kind of a hive mind bunch of mooks that are a single Net Navi.

what if you had like, a "commander servbot" of sorts, that can summon a bunch of servbots as its custom chips?

I'm trying to shy away from the hive mind idea here, while preserving the inspiration
