it's not even the normal "pffft, silly sky fairy" stuff, it is proper hatred and bile that is undermining a major archaeological discovery
advancing the front into TV TropesIt kind of surprised me because The Guardian is left-wing. I would have expected that kind of vitriol from a right-wing site's comment section - but then, I just saw the same site's comment section claiming Merkel was as bad as Hitler so there's that. :/

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)The president of the Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party says that Islamophobia is based on slanders against Islam
The PAS president said the ongoing war in Western Asia has clearly shown that Islam is the real victim although the religion is repeatedly demonised as being synonymous with acts of terrorism.
“This so-called Islamophobia today is really slanders against Islam.
“It is not the priests who are being killed but the mosques that are being bombed,” he said in his speech at the opening of Multaqa Serantau Alumni Al-Azhar Malaysia 2015, a forum on Muslim unity held at the Grand Seasons hotel here.
Hadi added that Islam prescribes clear guidelines that forbid the killing of innocent people during war.
He said that there are many stories that there are many examples in the Islamic faith that shows the religion is not one to be feared.
“The hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad prohibits the murder of women, children and the elderly.
“The Prophet also forbids the murder of priests, diplomats and monks,” he said.
Hadi, who is also Marang MP, later said that Malaysia does not need foreign advisers as it was enough to use teachings in the Holy Quran to guide the country.
The Federal Constitution should also be interpreted in accordance with religious principles and not be tailored to suit the appetites of man, he added.
“We don’t need advisers from the east or the west. We only need their knowledge. We can take their knowledge but not their advice,” he said.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotOn one hand, that reaction was dumb as fuck. On the other hand, there's plenty of alternatives to the freaking Shahada as starting points for calligraphy.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I agree. Both the school and the parents over-reacted, but we really are not supposed to assign religious texts as homework in public schools.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Unless they're from dead religions like Greek Mythology.
Exactly. A passage from the Arabian Nights would have been perfect.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Yeah, whatever happened to starting off a new language with "Hello, my name is [whatever]" or something simple like that?
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects."Hello World"

And isn't being a revivlist movement more or less an explicit acknowledgement that the original version is dead? As opposed to a restructuring or back-to-original form of an existing group.
The movement emerged in the 1990s. It's too early to tell if they are self-sustaining or not, I think.
And some make claims of uninterrupted continuity, as you can see for yourself in the article.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Way way back in the ninenteen-nineties
Leisured government employees
Dug up famous gods and spirits
And made amusing revival worships
Now the gods are back in business
They're gonna make it if they try
Gods niiiiigh, gods' niiiiigh...

Trump delenda estMiss Puerto Rico suspended from the organization after a series of anti muslim tweets
Her tweets were the following:
The only solace from this, is that Trump's own organization is turning against his ideals.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesThe "plant gas stations" part is what really gets me. I picture a Sheik with sunglasses and headdress, Hand Rubbing, tip-toeing, mustache-twirling, gutturally-snickering, while literally planting gas station like seeds into the ground while nobody's looking, only for them to quietly spring up overnight. The onlookers gaze, agape, and the Sheik walks by as if nothing was wrong, and, while admiring his dastardly deed, gives a cheery Not-So-Innocent Whistle to the tune of Twisted Nerve's Bernard Hermann.
I apologize for my tropey mind.

Well, it's the Guardian comments section. To expect a balanced view on religion from that place is like expecting /r/european to give a balanced view on the migration crisis.
