Valid point about the near duplication, and the suggestion is, to me, much better than the current.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I think something from Hellsing, home to the best Scary Shiny Glasses this side of horror films, may be worth a shot, namely:
"All you Fascists bound to lose."^ The problem I see with the ones from Hellsing you linked are that it doesn't show that they're glasses. To anyone unfamiliar with the work, they could just as easily be Eyebeams.
If it wasn't already on Knife Nut, I'd suggest the one of The Corinthian from The Sandman where he's saying "We're going to take turns".

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Those are pretty comical, less scary.
So far the only one I really like is the OP suggestion.
So far, OP is the best suggestion for me. As much as I love the Hellsing examples, you can't tell they're glasses.
Yeah, all other suggestions are a little low on the "showing the important part of the trope" part.
Check out my fanfiction! The OP's suggestion is easily the best one so far. Most of the others don't show the "scary" part very well.
Also, the link to 6.2 doesn't work for me.
I think that the OP's suggestion is the best out of all of these so far as well.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyBumping. And here's the OP in wiki size:
I like that.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThat works.
Looks good.

The caption could be something lampshading the fact that (apparently) there is no light source to cause the reflection.
Something like "Don't ask how it's reflecting like that without a light source"

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I'm not sure how the caption really adds to the image. I think having to point that out actually diminishes the sinister factor of the pic.
Agreed; that does blunt the focus of the pic. I'mma go ahead and lock this one; caption discussion can pick up in the repair thread if anyone comes up with an idea.
Nothing inherently wrong with the image itself, but it's way too similar to the page image of Finger-Tenting. Not exactly a duplicate, but they have the exact same poses due to the fact that the image from the former is apparently a Shout-Out to the latter that it might as well be.
I think this◊ image from the example section is a better illustration for this trope, since the pic's atmosphere is also more sinister.
