That would be one way to deal with a troublesome destroyer. Pop smoke and crash dive.
EDIT: Do you think Sony will file an injunction order, demanding that a proper bidding process be done so they can enter the PS 4 controller as a candidate? And never mind if Mad Catz or Logitech enter the bidding war. These submarines might not see service until 2027.

Mad Catz went bust a while ago.
"Yup. That tasted purple."And joking aside, if a $30-60 piece of hardware can do the job of a $38k piece of hardware and won't have any serious reliability issues (or can be quickly and easily swapped out if it does fail), it seems like a pretty sensible decision.
You could pack a few dozen in a locker as operational spares. Also handy when you want to have Halo LAN parties.
Watch Russia's Only Operational Battlecruiser Launch A Massive "Shipwreck" Anti Ship Missile...
...for the last time. The Kirov class is undergoing refits that will replace the P-700 Granit (SS-N-19 Shipwreck) with new shit fired from newly installed VLS batteries. (A total of 80 ASM's including their newest hypersonic ones.)
When really what they should be doing is replacing them with 16" turrets so they can fire proper broadsides to jack up anyone foolish enough to get within 20 miles of them.
Well with sufficient nuclear power and those 16 inch guns being railguns, the range is more like 20 times that, 400 miles instead of 20.
But then again Russians have always been very terrible at naval gunnery. Just ask the guys who went to Tsushima.
Hey its not there fault a snake wrapped itself around the main gun.
The US Army(!) Is Buying New Boats To Replace Vietnam-era Landing Craft.
I knew the Army had ships and boats of a non-zero number, but I didn't think they were THAT old!
And now this thread has become bizarre. Army ships, what's next the Marines having A-10s? (Given the idiocy of the Air Force, splitting the A-10s between Army and Marines might not be such a bad idea...)
Who knows these days.
I am kind of surprised the Army hasn't tried to push back into Amphib sooner.
Who watches the watchmen?Meanwhile the next round of defence cuts could see the Royal Navy losing its LPDs, on top of losing its LPH next year.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Well the Royal Marines can hitch a ride with the USMC.
Who watches the watchmen?Ah yes Britain, The Most Triumphant Example of a Vestigial Empire collapsing into irrelevance and decay.
It wouldn't surprise me at this rate Las Malvinas will be Argentine once again and forever by 2030.
Because you can't defend an island nation without warships and you certainly can't call yourself a world power without the ability to just roll up and land troops anywhere you want via LPH's, LPD's or what have you.

How America Is Losing the Battle for the South China Sea
With the U.S. government and the world understandably focused on North Korea and escalating tensions in northeast Asia, China this summer has made substantial progress in further establishing de facto control over most of the South China Sea. Indeed, aside from Secretary Defense Mattis’ strongly-worded speech in June at the annual Shangri-La dialogue in Singapore, and an uptick in U.S. Navy freedom-of-navigation operations in the South China Sea, the administration seems uninterested in reinforcing—let alone more forcefully emphasizing—international law and the longstanding U.S. position that all claimants must take concrete steps in accordance with said law to resolve the disputes peacefully. As Bonnie Glaser from the Center for Strategic and International Studies noted this past July at CSIS’s seventh annual South China Sea conference, the United States seemed surprised and ill-prepared for the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s 2016 ruling, and has yet to devise a comprehensive South China Sea policy or strategy. Freedom-of-navigation operations is simply a policy tool, not a policy in itself.
China gave Nacho Nazi a trademark, they're not a problem anymore. FAKE NEWS etc.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. In fairness it wasn't like Obama was doing much ether. Hillary Clinton could have managed it but apparently she was some kind of Evil Witch or some crap like that.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Regarding old equipment, the Air Force is still trying to replace their Vietnam-era Hueys.
At least most of our own watercraft are newer than that.
Also a really interesting way to track submarines by the things it basically leaves behind without having to use sonar. Basically they use things like chemical sensors, changes in temperature of the water, and other wake detection technologies. Clever Russians.

"Yup. That tasted purple."x-post from the military thread:
‘Fat Leonard’ probe expands to ensnare more than 60 admirals
The "Fat Leonard" corruption investigation has expanded to include more than 60 admirals and hundreds of other U.S. Navy officers under scrutiny for their contacts with a defense contractor in Asia who systematically bribed sailors with sex, liquor and other temptations, according to the Navy.
Most of the admirals are suspected of attending extravagant feasts at Asia's best restaurants paid for by Leonard Glenn Francis, a Singapore-based maritime tycoon who made an illicit fortune supplying Navy vessels in ports from Vladivostok, Russia to Brisbane, Australia. Francis also was renowned for hosting alcohol-soaked, after-dinner parties, which often featured imported prostitutes and sometimes lasted for days, according to federal court records.
The 350-pound Francis, also known in Navy circles as "Leonard the Legend" for his wild-side lifestyle, spent decades cultivating relationships with officers, many of whom developed a blind spot to his fraudulent ways. Even while he and his firm were being targeted by Navy criminal investigators, he received VIP invitations to ceremonies in Annapolis and Pearl Harbor, where he hobnobbed with four-star admirals, according to photographs obtained by The Washington Post.

Left Trigger (LT) is either Aim Down Sights-style zoom or somehow a submarine throws a grenade.
