Though is does raise the question as to which organisation is competent enough to imprison us but incompetent enough to let us escape.

We could all be in the same planet/city/town/village and it gets attacked by some sith warlord, so we all either fight together or run away together

[up] The same forces that are able to imprison regular lawbreakers yet allow them to escape in the real worldgrin? Police are much more effective than prisons.

And that idea could work too. I'm really a fan of any situation where we all meet by happenstance and are on the run from something bigger than us.

I really don't enjoy railroading or otherwise forcing a convoluted series of events to Force everyone to somehow wind up working together overnight.

It's a lot more simple and practical to develop some sort of common background consisting of a series of joinings rather than trying to do it all at once in-game and turning things into a mess.

When I make the real signup I'll add a field where you list two of the other crewmembers that you have some sort of history/friendship/business/whatever with. I know so far that it'll start out with everyone having worked together for at least some short period of time (long enough to have to skip doing a million handshakes and introductions at the start of the game, and have a general understanding of everyone's talents and personality, but not so long that you've had any sort of unintended influence on each other).

So it could totally be a prison breakout that gets you all together, but as a backstory.

The only problem with having previously established relationships with characters is what do we do when somebody inevitably drops out? What should our contingency plan be? Just Chuck Cunningham them or say they went to another assignment?

How about this. I think I can implement a prison break. If every player character happened to know two (or more) other player characters, then one of them could have been picked up by, for example, Coruscant security, who in turn picked up one of their known associates, in turn picking up another known associate, etc. You all escape with the assistance of a starship captain who happened to be there, or knew one of you, but was either recaptured or killed during your escape. Then the game starts off just after your jump to hyperspace.

The thing about this approach is that you're going to be wanted by some sort of governmental entity. I can make it an independent planet to avoid making you have to avoid the entire Republic, but regardless you're going to all be wanted criminals of some sort. Is everyone okay with that?

Actually, how about this for a plot hook.

All the characters start on a space station of some kind, likely run down cause we're not exactly the folks that hang out in the rich areas. The station get's attacked, something breaks, etc and all of us flee to the nearest ship, steal it, and escape in the resulting confusion?

Okay, so here's what I've got right now.

  • Name: Feen'bonduna ("Feen")
  • Sex: female
  • Age: adult-aged
  • Race: Twi'lek
  • Title: "the nurse"
  • Role on Ship: Combat Medic / Ambassador
  • Alignment: light-ish neutral
  • Appearance: Blue-skinned and still young enough to be pretty.
  • Personality:
    • She has a strong sense of loyalty, and once established, is not easy to break. Her demeanor can be a bit fluid, depending on the people she's interacting with.
    • Not very keen on using the Force when she doesn't need to. You big baby, that's what your natural regenerative processes are for.
  • Primary Weapon Type: Blaster pistol. Light, but functional. Also, concealable.
  • Armor Type: Light
  • Starting Abilities:
    • Force Heal
    • Medicine — from field first aid to treating more serious injuries in the med bay or somesuch
    • Dodge — in case they try to shoot the medic first
    • Persuasion
  • Equipment:
    • blaster pistol
    • basic combat suit
    • a couple of medpacks
  • Brief History:
    • Began training with the Jedi at a young age, but constantly failed to abide by the Jedi code. People not meant to live without emotion or attachment, she thought. Eventually left Jedi order, but had stayed just long enough to gain some training in the healing arts. The rest, she picked up on her own.
  • Plot Hooks:
    • During a past mission with another group, she posed as a slave girl so that the group could sneak into the lair of a crime lord and swipe a very expensive treasure. She was found out as they were making their getaway, and although they all managed to get out safely, said crime lord now knows her face. And he might just be inclined to put a price on that pretty little head... alive, though, not dead.
    • Healers aren't always able to save the people in their care. The brother of one such person now bears a personal grudge against her for "letting him die".

Re: relationships with other characters, maybe one of them had her back when she was being pursued by a local gang or a bounty hunter? Or maybe one of the characters sustained a significant injury, and she (being still independent at the time) had to stay with them until they recovered.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

[up]A non-lightsaber wielding (former)Jedi, nice.

Okay here's the current signup. I'll make an official thread once I come up with a name. Does anyone have suggestions for a name for this RP? Oh, and a name for the ship.

The signup sheet itself has no major changes, aside from the addition of that last section.

I hope that this gives a nice blend of being able to meet other characters for the first time, while also giving everyone some friendlier associates you can rely on.

It has been over a year since the destruction of the Star Forge, the disappearance of Revan, and the dawn of the Sith Civil War. Now as the Empire tears itself apart, the Republic recovers from decades of warfare, and the Hutts maintain their neutrality from their palaces.

Trian. One of the most highly-advanced worlds of Wild Space, it has maintained its independence from the Republic for thousands of years, and held off the Sith Empire unlike its neighbor, Telos. Now, Trianii Space, serves as one of the few secure zones free from interference from the Empire, the Republic, and the Hutts alike. A hub world for trade in the Tingel Arm - and a common destination for many of the smugglers in the galaxy - it provides an opportunity for enterprising individuals to make their fortunes.

And as an unfortunate band of scoundrels found out, the Trianii Rangers are not a force to take lightly....

It's uncertain who the first arrest was, but their known associates were quickly taken into custody, as were their known associates, and theirs in turn. However, with the assistance of Vania Nartano - a togruta smuggler with a penchant for mischief, an eyepatch, and an eye-shaped thermal detonator - a small band managed to escape. Though she was taken down during the escape attempt, the others escaped aboard her ship note  and made the jump to hyperspace.

Today, still wanted by the government, they need to survive despite having nothing but themselves, the ship, and the equipment they managed to recover. And a computer with details on Vania's current job, the payout of which is significant.

  • Name:
  • Sex:
  • Age:
  • Race: I'm okay with most races, aside from ones that are just outright bullshit like a Gen'Dai, too inconvenient to deal with like a Hutt, or too... believed to be extinct, like a rakata or Sith. Aside from that, go nuts. Also please don't be a kid.
  • Class/Title: Just for fun. Like how Han Solo was a "scoundrel", or Boba Fett was a "Bounty Hunter".
  • Role on Ship:
  • Alignment: How Light, Dark, or Neutral they are. Doesn't really affect anything aside from magic wizards being able to say "Oooooh, I sense darkness/light in you".
  • Appearance:
  • Personality:
  • Primary Weapon Type: The weapon type you mainly use. You have what could be considered pretty-good skills with that particular weapon. There's nothing forcing you to only use that weapon, but just keep in mind that you'll have "below average" proficiency with other weapons. Unless it's a lightsaber - then you'll probably cut your arms off. [[lol]]
  • Armor Type: Light/medium/heavy. You'll be starting with relatively cheap armor, so heavy will be very bulky but protective, light will not protect very much but give you maximum mobility, and medium will do a bad job at both.
  • Starting Abilities: Everyone starts with four abilities. These could be Force powers (like Push, Pull, Jump, Saber Throw). They could be weapons you are really good at using. It could be a skill like piloting, slicing, security, treat injury, demolition, repair, armor construction, weapon construction, etc. The more specific a skill, the more talented you are than a more general one (To use a dumb example, think of the difference between tea preparation and drink preparation). Permanent augmentations and droid components like a translator or cardio package would also count as an ability instead of equipment. Also, some races might come with a free ability, like a Miraluka having Force Sense - just tack that on as a fifth ability. You can also use two ability slots on one skill to make an ability "advanced", which makes it much more effective than the basic version.
    • [Ability 1]
    • [Ability 2]
    • [Ability 3]
    • [Ability 4]
  • Equipment: Everything your character has on their person. Should just be the things tied to their weapon/armor and abilities. I just don't want people starting off with super-expensive gold-plated weapons and cortosis armor so that there's room for you to keep buying/stealing cooler weapons.
    • [Stuff]
  • Brief History: Try not to make it super complex. If you can maximize readability and develop a backstory that presents opportunities for working with other players, that would be nice.
  • Plot Hooks: Anything relating to your character that I can integrate into the game via NPCs or other means. Such as having a bounty on your head from a hutt warlord who really liked that pet vornskr, a vengeful Sith ex-girlfriend, colonists who are pretty pissed off that they spent their savings on your less-than-legitimate "investment opportunity", a smuggling group that didn't like having you testify against their leader, and other things of that nature.
  • Links in the Chain: The two characters that your character knows. The two people who would be tied to you in a "...knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy..." chain. Work with the other players to come up with associations between you and. You don't have to be best-friends-forevers or something like that, really you just need to be somewhat associated. This is important, as these might wind up being the characters who are least likely to want to throw you out of an airlock.
    • Zelda
    • Ganondorf

  • Name: Kyla Thule
  • Sex: Female
  • Age: 19
  • Race: Human
  • Class/Title: Jedi Sentinel
  • Role on Ship: Slicer
  • Alignment: Neutral, leaning towards the Light.
  • Appearance: Somewhat taller-than-average, slender, athletic build. Long brown hair kept tied back in a braided ponytail. White skin, brown eyes. Reasonably pretty.
  • Personality: Adventurous, ambitious and impatient, Kyla is easily bored, occasionally causing her to get a bit stir-crazy. Her hunger for knowledge and unending quest for something interesting to do have gotten her accused of making brash decisions in the past, though she is not naïve and is usually aware of her actions’ possible consequences before she acts. Though not above committing pretty crime for fun and profit, Kyla is a compassionate person at heart, loyal to her friends and allies, and still committed to (her favourite parts of) traditional Jedi philosophies.
  • Primary Weapon Type: Lightsaber – Ataru.
  • Armor Type: Light.
  • Starting Abilities:
    • Telekinesis
    • Mind Trick
    • Slicing
    • Con Artistry
  • Equipment:
    • Lightsaber: violet blade; simple, straightforward hilt.
    • Slicer Datapad: acts as a whole lot of Computer Spikes, the supply of which can be replenished with a little time and effort.
  • Brief History: Born on a rural little planet in a largely-forgotten corner of the galaxy, Kyla was soon found to be Force Sensitive and was given over to the near-by Jedi Enclave. Before she could graduate to Padawan, however, the Jedi Civil War broke out and the Enclave was destroyed by Sith forces. She, her older brother – a Jedi Knight – and a handful of others managed to escape the planet unharmed, and they sought refuge at another Enclave a few systems away. This Enclave was sparsely populated and not prepared for the sudden influx of Initiates, so Kyla found herself able to neglect her studies and meditation in favour of more interesting pursuits like using (or abusing) her powers to impress her friends and make a little money, as well as learning about computer security, something which also impressed her friends and made her some money. Her brother strongly disapproved of her actions, and one fateful confrontation prompted her to run away from the Enclave and try and get a ride off-world. Not long after she’d left, however, the Sith attacked again, and the Enclave she’d been staying at was destroyed. The fates of her friends and her brother were left unknown to her, as the locals reported that several Jedi had escaped, though nobody knew which ones, exactly. After searching for a few years, she eventually gave up, but had taken a liking to independent living and refused to return to the Jedi Order. She lives on a modest, semi-reliable income from conning unsuspecting and unaware people out of their hard-earned money and/or raiding the savings accounts of unsuspecting businessmen, though she always leaves a little bit behind and does her best not to take money from anyone who might need it more than her.
  • Plot Hooks:
    • Although she’s generally not notorious enough for most people to instantly recognize her, she is wanted for petty theft and fraud on several worlds, and has stolen from several gangs in the past.
    • Kyla’s older brother’s fate in unknown, much like her parents’ fate. She presumes they are all dead, but can’t know for sure…
  • Links:
    • She'd probably want/need some protection from the various gangs she's pissed off. Maybe she hired Uziel and/or Rakko and/or Darius? I doubt she could afford more than one of them, though.
    • She and Selth are both former Jedi... Could there be same vague camaraderie? Since she was never formally promoted to Knight, and he's a former Master, would he be interested in helping her complete her training?
    • Maybe she and Uziel pissed off the same people, and teaming up for a while just seemed logical?

I figured we had enough laser swords on board.

Though would it be fair to say she's had just enough time with the training sabers that she's not going to accidentally lop her own limbs off if she picks up a lightsaber, or is that something you'd have to put down as a skill on the character sheet?

So I'm thinking a droid who came with the ship (read: is a ship asset). Officially a service/maintenance/drudgery-work droid. I was going to make it have some slicer capabilities installed by the old captain, but if we have a fleshbag slicer I'll come up with something else. Any suggestions?

That's fine, Kyler.

That's also fine, Luthen. Although maybe it would be convenient if the droid, or at least its currently-incarcerated owner, had previously done business with someone else. Or at least some reason why it's not trying to kill everyone stealing the ship[lol]

  • Name: Darius Solusar
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 34
  • Race: Human
  • Class/Title: Bounty Hunter
  • Role on Ship: Sniper and Spotter
  • Alignment: Gray
  • Appearance: Darius stands at 5'11" and has a set of slicked back trim black hair, often assumed to be from his helmet. His skin is pale and his eyes a piercing icy blue. He wears a large tattered coat to make himself more physically imposing, his helmet has a odd visor and optics system built into it's respirator mask. It doesn't do much currently other than glow to make Darius seem threatening.
  • Personality: Darius has a cold personality, he tends to be a very professional person and is generally in it only for the pay. His tone is generally uninterested as if nothing is truly going to affect him. Despite all this his tone can change in a instant to one of rage if something is not going according to plan. For him he cannot think up a new plan on the spot and generally has a plan beforehand, hence the rage if things start to go off the rails. Darius also has no sense of loyalty and can be bought off any bounty or target for a even higher price, he's not to proud to accept that. Beyond that he feels nothing for the people who hire him or his targets. it's all business.
  • Primary Weapon Type: Blaster
  • Armor Type: Medium armor.
  • Starting Abilities:
    • Blasters - Riflemanship. Darius is a Sniper first and foremost and can often be seen climbing up tall buildings to get a better shot on his target. However he is perfectly capable of utilizing a Assault blaster to close the range. It's just that his primary use is within Sniper Rifles.
    • Pilot Skill''' - If it has a control system he can drive it. how well depends, he mostly prefers to use fighters and other non ground vehicles.
    • Engineering - Darius claims that all good bounty hunters should be capable of maintaining their tools and sabotaging their target if need be. It is his honest belief of this but he still turns to others for more complex mechanical needs.
  • Equipment: Darius carries a Blas Tech A280 assault blaster◊ with no modifications, as he claims "If it isn't broken, don't need to fix it." His other weapon is a customized DC-15x Sniper Blaster◊ with work in progress on converting it to a anti-material blaster, he is also asking Fixit for assistance on allowing it to fire slug rounds as well "A slug can down a Jedi in one shot" as he puts. Finally is his armor and helmet, he does not claim to carry more.
  • Brief History: Darius has been a bounty hunter for 9 years and shows no remorse or signs of stopping. Travel for him as much as he would love to have his own ship, is heavily limited to public use, a fake identity and smile each time with a wave of a license and some spare galactic credit into the right pockets as he moves forward. He continues with Bounty Hunting because it's what he does best.
  • Plot Hooks: Darius is a hired gun and nothing more. But currently he is drifting, he has no new job opportunities on the horizon and is just there as it was the cheapest transport available. Truth be told he's there because he's hunting a personal bounty, and figured it was one of the best ways to get about as he knew old associates there, one of which being Rakko.
  • Links in the Chain:
    • Fixit - Darius has met up with the Jawa more than once in his travels and is on decent enough terms with him to ask for help maintaining his weapons. His consummate views generally results in him treating Fixit quite well and paying handsomely for work well done.
    • Rakko - Darius's relation to Rakko is purely professional, they have teamed up together more than once to catch a bounty or two. Darius's plans generally involving Rakko being a distraction as part of the galaxy seems to find him adorable. Most of these plans are in jest.

There we go. I will actually draw this guy and upload a picture eventually.

@ Blackfire667:

She'd probably want/need some protection from the various gangs she's pissed off. Maybe she hired Uziel and/or Rakko and/or Darius? I doubt she could afford more than one of them, though. [...] Maybe she and Uziel pissed off the same people, and teaming up for a while just seemed logical?

[Uziel's] had a sizable bounty on his head ever since he wiped out half of Luda's gang on Nar Shadaa on little more than a dare, but he relishes the combat it brings his way.

If Kyla was brave enough to approach Uziel with her gang problem, I could certainly see that leading to his first plot hook. Having pissed off Luda the Hutt, and a little short on credits, she finds the biggest, meanest-looking guy on the planet and convinces him to solve her problem on the cheap (possibly with a bit of her Con Artistry). Uziel's happy for the challenge, but the Hutt himself escapes his wrath and now there's a bounty on both their heads.

Basically, this makes Uziel into Marv from Sin City.

@ Kyler Thatch: Uziel is definitely one to sustain injuries. His winding up in Feen's care would require some tolerance of obvious Sith on her part, but it might work, particularly if she had any knowledge of cybernetics.

"Kyler" and "Kyla" may get confusing.
