Yeah, that's relying on the caption to get the point across...some more context from the strip that's from might help, but I don't think it was linked in the example.
Sure, it relies on the caption, but it also works with the caption, so I don't think it's pullable. If you really want it gone, it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to find a replacement.
Check out my fanfiction! What about something from Scott Pilgrim, like this◊ or this?◊ I personally like the second one, since it also has other characters acknowledging it, though I'm not sure it'll fit.

Those are both links to the same image.
What about the last panel from this OotS comic? The comic is a prime example, a character directly references an RPG rule, and the only way the situation makes any sense at all is if some kind of game mechanic is in effect.
That would work pretty well.
Woops, the second one was supposed to be this◊ (that's embarrassing). The Order of the Stick one is also good.
I lean toward the Oot S pic as long as it looks good at wiki size.
The middle panel on the second-last row of this OotS strip might be even better.
= Spindriver =Anything we can do with this one?
Yet another OOTS suggestions : http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0297.html , third row last panel.
The suggestion in 12, while a great example of the trope, would in my opinion be rather hard to condense sufficiently to really work.
Yup, that's a good one.
The suggestion in 13 is already the page quote.
Indeed, and since the visuals don't really add anything to the illustration, I think it would be better to leave it at that.
Out of all these suggestions, I'd pick 6 and 11.2 as my favorites. 12 would be great if it didn't require so much space.
I think 10 and 11.2 are the best so far. 6 would end up being almost identical to the image for Failed a Spot Check.
Clock is set.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere's plenty of good suggestions here, and I don't want this thread to clock out needlessly, so how about a crowner?
Didn't include the suggestion in post 12 because no specific part of it was suggested, and we can't just use the whole thing.

Attached the crowner.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMonday votes bump; three in the green as of right now.
I am vehemently against Order of the Stick mostly because I'm sick of seeing it on here and I hate its art style (you can tell me it's Stylistic Suck all you want, it's still ugly; you want Stylistic Suck done funnier, go look at Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff).
Whereas I hate pretty much everything about One Piece from an aesthetic standpoint, but I'm not going to let that stop me from giving a pic from it a if it beats other for a trope.
If it gets the idea across, fine. But I prefer the Scott Pilgrim image in this case. Far less dialogue.
Votes bump.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
All I see is someone standing in front of a monster's bloody corpse while reading a book. There is no indication anywhere in the image that RPG mechanics are in play at all, let alone that the character in the image is aware of it.
The caption doesn't really help much either. At least it states that the book she's reading is a "monster manual", but there is still nothing in the image or the caption that implies the presence of RPG mechanics. Does the book say how many Hit Points the monsters have? Does it say what elements they're weak to, or whether or not they are vulnerable to Standard Status Effects? The answer to that doesn't matter, since the image completely fails to illustrate it.
