Needs Help: Seinen

The order of the "kids'/adults" anime is obviously backwards.

Does anyone mind if I fix it, or should we find a whole new one?

Not only that, but the images in the upper bar are so small as to be invisible.

Ew, that is nasty. There is no fixing that abomination. Kill it with fire.

I like the idea, it gets the idea that cuteness is not just for Shojo across, but the Seinen side needs to be more actual Seinen like Non Non Biyori, Kiniro Mosaic, Hidamari Sketch, Sakura Trick, Gochi Usa, K On, A Channel, Acchi Kocchi Chis Sweet Home and such. Azumanga Daioh is not actually Seinen.

Dark violent Shonen such as Jo Jo, Death Note, Claymore, Attack On Titan, Fist Of The North Star would be good for the other side.

It means nothing to me. It tells me nothing about the genre. I vote for "Pull, with or without replacement".

It's not a Genre it's a demographic.

It's the adult male manga demographic which most people assume is all blood guts and gore. The image is trying to show that it has become dominated by cute like K On, people automatically assume those series are for girls because of the stigma that if it's got cute girls it can not possibly be for adult males and such. And the 'manly yada' mostly relegated to Shonen or Josei series which people mistake for Seinen, although they still exist mostly of the truly Gorn variety though.

If we're not going the comparison route we could throw up a bunch of Seinen mag covers like Manga Time Kirara like this◊ and such. There isn't a real unifying manga for Seinen though, unlike Shonen Jump for Shonen but Kirara is probably the closest I guess.

I assumed it was an extremely careless mistake on the part of the creator: basically, they mixed up the kids and not-kids images.

The Azumanga Daioh is wrong, that one is Shonen, it ran in Dengeki Daioh, the others are quite right.

I can't tell what all of the Shonen ones are though being so small.

Bottom row middle is Lucky Star, of course. Top row left is Gurren Lagann. 2nd image looks like Fist Of The North Star, but it's hard to pin it down.

...But anyway, do we all agree this needs an entirely new image? I can look for one.

Making a bigger one with the exact same premise with some of the works I linked in post 4 would probably be the best I think. I lack the editing skills to do it sadly.

The best interpretation I can come up with for the current image is that it's specifically showing a type of Seinen mentioned in the third paragraph of the description for the sake of making a joke. It's rather confusing when you just glance at the image first, though.

Current needs to get gone.

No idea about a replacement, since seinen isn't exactly narrow. I'd say that out of shonen, shoujo, seinen, and josei, it's the most diverse, as it contains elements from all of those.

Hmm what would be the biggest Seinen sellers in the genres? Love Live would be the most popular Seinen ever selling more DV Ds than any other anime ever for a single season, K On was almost as big, Madoka Magica or Nanoha for the male oriented magical girl, probably want to skip out on the fanservice category unless we go Queens Blade or Strike Witches or something, CLANNAD for the romance.

For action uhh slim pickings on real popular stuff... Maybe Akira?

Well, Memers, since you seem to know all about this, could you put together a collage? Either way, current looks like an Image Macro with crap quality, so it needs to go, no matter what else gets done. Motion to Pull, regardless of replacement.

I don't have any editing skills or tools sadly, I could try but I have no idea what I am doing there. But which idea?

Eh, you could find images and provide links to them, then somehow explain how it should be structured. I can do the arranging part, but I'm a casual anime fan at best, so I would be at a loss as images what to use or what it means. A few more for the current and we can obliterate it from existence.

I'm fine with axing the current one. For a new one, I'd be down with something from Akira.

Edit: Or how about something that emphasizes how different the art styles often are from shounen and shoujo, like Vagabond or Sanctuary?

Akira is not very representative of Seinen alone though, and those two mangas are not as well.

Maybe 3 manga covers with Non Non Biyori◊ Highschool DXD◊ Akira◊

Edit: now that I think about it actual Seinen publications in which the mangas are published, as that specifically makes works fit in this trope. Such as Manga Time Kirara Such as this, throwing this one up would be good.

The problem, IMO, is that a cover like that (the one in the edit) does nothing to show how seinen is unique from shonen, shojo, or any other type of moe-dominated anime.

Having three series would work if you can make them all recognizeable in a 500x500 square.

Well we could do 2 or 3 Seinen mag covers but there arnt many super well known ones outside of that one anymore. Got another option?

They don't need to be well-known; they just need to illustrate the page.

Well I said 'any ideas' because the ones that I have at least heard of have stopped publishing and Google doesn't give me any good covers.

Heck even the manga that ran the Code Geass Seinen manga has covers that look like this◊, the gory Seinen publications are almost all gone.
