"Shingen the Ruler" was an entertaining conquest / strategy game. However, I would consistently pronounce the main character's name as "Shin - JIN" until about 1994. That was when I learned it should be pronounced "Shin - gehn."
I thought "bourgeoisie" was pronounced boar-go-see instead of burger-swah. This caused problems when history class covered communism
I had "niche" as "nee-SHAY" rather than "ni-shh"
I used to refer to a certain disease pertaining to high blood sugar as "diabeetus".
Oh wait, I still do.
At least you don't do this shit◊.
I just learned Moog (as in the synthesizer) is pronounced in a way that rhymes with "vogue" and not the noise a cow makes with a g at the end.

It wasn't until I watched an episode of Pokémon that I learned that the evolution of Shuppet is pronounced "bey-NET", as in "bane + marionette", not "banshee + marionette" like I always thought it was.
Same here.

"Anemone dear, I know you want to be more independent from me, but... please take care, okay?"I always thought the website Quotev was pronounced "quo-tev." But according to Markiplier, it's pronounced "Quote V"!
Still hoping for Klonoa to get a new game... or a movie like thisHow do you pronounce Arceus? My whole life, I've been pronouncing it "ARK-ee-oos". Is it really "ARK-ee-uss"? "ARK-oos"? "AR-soos" Something else?
Still hoping for Klonoa to get a new game... or a movie like thisYou're probably right with your pronunciation. It's kinda like "archaic."
"Anemone dear, I know you want to be more independent from me, but... please take care, okay?"For a long time, I pronounced indict (in-DITE) as in-DICKT.
Many times. Especially with words like adequate (mispronounced as 'aquedate'), ecstatic (mispronounced as 'esctastic') and Cambridge (CAM-bridge as opposed to CAME-bridge).
Pronounciation isn't my strong point...
↳ Redirecting to Mvfl G.I pronounced "mischievous" as :"mis-cheevi-us" for a long time. I'm not the only one, apparently, as I hear a lot of people making this mistake.
More things the Pokémon anime taught me:
- Braixen: BREYK-sen, not BRYKE-sen.
- Gourgeist: GORE-gyest, as in poltergeist. Both g's are hard.
I still pronounce this word wrong because I can't say it properly but I have to say it every Saturday or Sunday when I'm in church.
I can't pronounce "Apostolic" correctly.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre Adventureplateau as platoo and King Dedede as deedeed.
My new plan is so secret that even I cannot understand its full scope!I also mispronounce and misspell the word "pronunciation" itself as "pronounciation".
Also, speaking of pronunciation, ABA Journal has released two quizzes that test your pronunciation skills based on Charles Harrington Elster's The Big Book of Beastly Mispronunciations. I did terribly at both, mainly because I don't speak American English and I suck at pronunciation.
- 1st part: I got 17/30, although for words like "fiancé/fiancée" and "formidable" it was just a matter of wrong syllable emphasis. Here are the words I mispronounced:
- acumen (AK-yoo-men instead of uh-KYOO-men)
- brooch (BROOCH instead of BROHCH)
- cache (ka-SHAY instead of KASH)
- clandestine (KLAN-di-steen instead of klan-DES-tin)
- comptroller (KOMP-troh-luhr instead of kuhn-TROH-luhr, but what is a "comptroller" even?)
- divisive (di-VIS-iv instead of di-VY-siv)
- dour (DOW-er instead of DURE)
- environment (en-VYR-muhnt instead of en-VY-urn-muhnt)
- err (AIR instead of UHR)
- flaccid (FLAS-id instead of FLAK-sid)
- forbade (for-BAYD instead of fur-BAD)
- 2nd Part: Not much luck here, I got 13/30. Again, here are the words i mispronounced:
- hegemony (HEJ-uh-mo-nee instead of hi-JEM-uh-nee)
- Holocaust (HOH-luh-kawst instead of HAHL-uh-kawst)
- juror (JUH-ror instead of JOOR-uhr)
- kudos (KOO-dohz instead of KOO-dahs)
- long-lived (lived pronounced as 'lived' instead of 'live-ed')
- machinations (pronounced as 'mashinations' instead of 'mackinations')
- niche (pronounced as 'neesh' instead of 'nitch')
- ophthalmology (of-ta-MOHL-uh-jee instead of ahf-thuul-MAHL-uh-jee)
- substantive (suhb-STAN-tiv instead of SUHB-stin-tiv)
- succinct (suh-SINGKT instead of suk-SINGKT)
- supposed as an adjective ('suppose-ed' instead of normal 'supposed')
- template (TEM-playt instead of TEM-plit)
- transient (TRAN-see-int instead of TRAN-shint)
- tyrannical (ty-RAN-i-kuhl instead of ti-RAN-i-kuhl)
- ultimatum (uhl-ti-MAH-tuhm instead of uhl-ti-MAY-tuhm)
- usury (yoo-SHUH-ree instead of YOO-zhuh-ree)
- zoology (pronounced as spelled, not zoh-AHL-uh-jee)
In total, I got 30/60 or 50%, which just goes to show how weak my pronunciation is.

↳ Redirecting to Mvfl G.How do you pronounce the last name Blanc? I feel like I've heard it pronounced both "Blank" and "Blonk".
Still hoping for Klonoa to get a new game... or a movie like thisIt depends on the actual person with that last name.
I always pronounced it Blonk.
When the legendaries for X & Y where first announced I always pronounced "Yveltal" as Ya-vet-ul when it is apparently pronounced evil tall.
Almost every town/city with a French name in my area is pronounced wrong by everyone in Western Pennsylvania, the only exceptions are Duquesne and Latrobe. Though in the case of Latrobe everyone from there insist on purposely pronouncing it wrong and feel the need to correct you when you use the proper French pronounciation.
They call it Lay-trobe instead of the way people that know French pronounce it. My grandfather was from Belgium and he hated how the citizens of Latrobe pronounce that name.

Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureGoing in cold, I'd say "Blonk," but if the nameholder says it's "Blank," then it's "blank." I know voice acting legend Mel Blanc pronounced his last name "Blank."
A lot of towns have French names near where I live, too. There's a town named Versailles that is called "Ver-Sales" rather than "Verse-aye."

We have a North Versailles we pronounce it ver-sales instead of the French pronunciation.

Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre Adventure4x I think it is pronounced "Bloh" but I am not sure if that is in every context.
There was a band from around my area (Boston, specifically) called Fox Pass. I just now got that they were probably also making the same joke.
I used to pronounce "Mori" with more of an "Y" sound, rather than an "I" sound.
Ya, I'm weird like that...
I used to pronounce Reimu (From Touhou) as REM-I-U, and not REI-MU.
"YOU SHALL FEEL THE FLOWER'S WRATH"
