Uh, but then you can't see that the sign says "Death."
No to the two panel suggestion. Far too on the nose about it.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."^^ I said the OP suggestion◊, not the @19 suggestion. The sign that reads "death" is very obvious even if the first panel is cut.
I vote for the new picture that OP suggested.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I'd be fine with current or 19.
19 is less concise (two panels) and less witty (slightly worse looking). But it is a lot clearer.
BUT.
Current isn't not clear. Between the page name, the caption, the image, and human common sense, it's clear she's at least weighing the options. Which is idiocy. Despite Viewers Are Morons, it doesn't need to be horribly spoon-fed to readers like OP's suggestion.
Now, 19 is clearer. Current is better looking and shorter. Which combination is better boils down to opinion, which leads me to think crowner.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.21 looks good. It's a lot clearer that she's looking at the "dumb" direction over the other.
I prefer the OP's suggestion, but 32 is okay. Would be better if coupled with the current.
My favorite is 32.
Current = 32 > 19 >>> 1.
Check out my fanfiction!32's quality is much worse than the current, so I'll support the current over anything else.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Sorry, it is a frame of the GIF. I don't have the source to capture.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.No. That's not what that tarot card means.
Check out my fanfiction!Already in use on (what else) The Fool, albeit with different coloring. Besides, it doesn't really look to me like the guy is actually going to step off the cliff.

Scary Movie example shouldn't even belong to this trope. Description starts by referring to sanity of a person, yes? Okay, so watch the chain of contrived interpretations required for the example to qualify. The girl sees those two signs (Safety/Death). At the top of her sanity she believes them to describe actual outcomes of the chase, because that how things normally work (no, they don't). After that she thinks on top of her sanity that her priority is to select one of these two paths based on signs information (consider they could be planted or switched). And then she knows that her place in this sequence of events is to actually survive (says who?). So she chooses the best path suitable for that end, and gets it wrong, welcome the trope. Hooray~.
The point is that scene runs within a parent absurd framework. Within the absurdity — the border between common-sense and stupidity gets obscured.
I think that's overanalysing for the sake of discrediting it, rather than to create a coherent argument.
Just taking the image at face value shows her taking the path that leads to death. People tend to want to live. It's not exactly complicated.

Check out my fanfiction!Intellect has nothing to do with this choice. That's half the trope out of the window. And because the image is potholed to the movie page, face value is rather beside the point.
I disagree.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Okay, my opinion is just that. Just in case, I'll add that trying to think of an alternative image made me question the trope itself, and calling this one instance a parody seemed to require constraining the caption to something clunky.
I was making a crowner, when I discovered there already was one. The Scary Movie image didn't even win it (a cartoon of a man sitting on a branch◊ did, but it is on Darwin Awards). The History doesn't go back far enough to see why it was changed.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The change must have taken place before February 2012, given that the system revert history shows a larger version of the current back then.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCurrent is fine.
If we only use the second frame of the OP suggestion, it would be more concise and clear than the current, methinks.
