I think it's safe to call the crowner and choose ""Replace the current definition with the one on Sandbox. The Dev Team Thinks Of Everything (and cleanup all misuse)" due to it having the ratio of 3.67:1.
Aye, calling in favour of Sandbox. The Dev Team Thinks Of Everything's proposed definition and remove all nonfitting examples.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanEr, can this be locked now that the changes are in effect and the cleanup thread's in existence, please?
I think it's safe to say the problem has been solved, for now. Can this please be closed and locked? It's taking up the backlog space.
Well, is the cleanup done and completed?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDepends on whether examples completely unrelated to video games qualify as "misuse" - there's a lot of that on the Main/ page.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I had created a project page precisely for cleaning up the misuse: [1]
It seems pretty much underused.
Yeah, wick cleanup is a solo work, usually. Unless the trope is really prominent.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman...Oh.
I tend to remove any examples I perceive as misuse and keep any examples that I don't. Others are free to help as well. (I stopped posting on that page, by the way).
I don't think there's anything else to talk about on how to fix this trope (other than cleaning up the misuse for which it would take awhile even if I dedicate some of my consecutive time to do so).
So, what's the criteria for you closing this page? If said criteria's "cleaning up", I thought that's what that thread's intended to be, and besides, even if I were to set time aside to search for and remove misuse, it would still take awhile due to the amount of wicks this trope would have.
The only reason why I ask for this to be closed is because I don't think there's anything else to talk about in context of fixing this trope.
TRS threads are kept open as a reminder to complete the cleanup work.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanBut you guys said it yourself: we need to clean up backlog.
Look, I understand what you're saying (that the thread's still open to remind us to continue cleaning up the trope). I'm just confused as to why you're still keeping it open when you said we need to clean up backlog.
The work isn't done; the thread isn't closed.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I know that. You don't have to repeat yourself. I just said I was confused.
I've seen a few misuse of this trope added in spite of the change in description even on the main page (that I had since removed), as if those people are explicit ignoring the description. (Don't know about the wicks, however, but I'm going to assume they may be doing it there as well).
Coming to think about it, the name of the trope does sound like it's praising the developers for their insightful thinking. I believe this mere fact is what may be causing further misuse. Can I perhaps suggest a rename to help curve any further misuse?

A rename would really help out, tbh. I imagine most people misusing the the page now are relying on their old understanding of the page and haven't even checked the new description for the definition of the trope.
Incidentally, once new threads can be made, the next thing to work on would probably be Anti-Frustration Features, which seems to also be getting a lot of misuse as "more user-friendly game mechanics between games in a series" rather than "one game breaking its own rules to benefit the player in a potentially-frustrating situation". But that's for later.
Would a rename help remove the misuse?
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I honestly believe a rename would help prevent further misuse. The Dev Team Thinks of Everything sounds like a trope that's praising the developers for their insight. Stuff like that goes onto the Sugar Wiki, not here.
I believe we should start brainstorming for a rename at this moment. Can't think of anything myself at the moment, although if one does pop up, I'd be sure to suggest it. As we can't get rid of The Dev Team Thinks of Everything outright due to the amount of wicks, we also need to figure out what to do with the old name, be it a redirect to a new name or to a Sugar Wiki page.
Can I suggest the name "Developer's Foresight"?
There has still been problems of people adding examples simply because the current trope name makes it sound like a praising trope. Examples such as within Shovel Knight (with the content related to Plague Knight's campaign), Super Mario Maker, etc. I had since removed them and keep what I think are actual examples, but the mere fact that the trope still gets misuse means that something else is probably the cause.

That actually works pretty well, very well in fact.
I am fond of it. It seems accurate.
