[up]Cartoon network has a shorts program: while the shorts aren't released through means other than online (and a few are only shown at film festivals), it's still something.

Also, out of the pilots done (from the ones released from 2013 onward) only a roughly a third of them (Steven Universe, Clarence, Over the Garden Wall, Lakewood Plaza Turbo, Mars Safari, and Paranormal Roommates [and even then Benton Connor's more known for his regular show work]) were done by people involved with AT.

Meanwhile 5 (Paranormal Roommates, AJ's infinite summer, Long Live the Royals, Pillywags Mansion, and Riding with Burgess) involved Regular Show people, 4 (Clarence, Lakewood Plaza Turbo, My Science Fiction Project, and Back to Backspace) were done by people involved with either Secret Mountain Fort Awesome and/or Uncle Grandpa, and 2 (jammers and 12 forever) were people not previously involved with CN.

While I agree more with Aldo on the nostalgia thing,(And I have little love for Sonic) I do have to say kudos on insisting for more quality programming for kids and adults. I really dont like the dumbed down shows like TT Go.

[up]At least TTG is an improvement over Johnny Test.

[up] At least Johnny Test didnt dominate so throughtly as TT Go is. We could be seeing much more of Go than we ever did Johnny Test.

Regardless of your position on Go!, I think that we can all agree that CN kinda overuses the show. What with the constant advertisements for it and giving the show a 5-day, several hour marathon for their 100th episode(which turned out to be a regular episode) when it had it's own "Titan bomb" for the summer.

[up]This.

I find it funny that both shows were kinda decent in their first season, but after that people became very split over the show by the second season.

To be fair, TTG isn't the only show that had more than one bomb for the summer.

But yeah, CN gives a lot of attention to Teen Titans Go for some reason.

[up]True, true. Though I think I'm a bit more accepting of that since I have of bias.

TTG! does seem to be popular with kids as evidenced by those (rather annoying) vines that air in commercial breaks all the time. It's pretty much like the channel's Sponge bob.

Sooo...the Emmy Awards nominees are here. I don't see "Jammers" or "Twelve Forever" as somebody said there was the possibility of them there like a million posts ago. In fact, I don't see why an award ceremony dedicated to television would put in a category for pilots.

Necroing this thread because:

It's that time again! (Maybe? I'm not sure how they schedule these...)

It's SECRET PILOT TIME!!!! gringringrin

This time, we have Infinity Train by Owen Dennis, in which a bookish girl named after a type of flower struggles with the enigmatic nature of a bizarre train with a Robot Buddy (buddies?)....

And Victor & Valentino by Diego Molano, in which two half-brothers find themselves trapped in the Land of the Dead! As you do.

Going to say this right off the bat: My favorite's Infinity Train. Heck, it doesn't matter that Tulip (the girl) looks like she could be Wendy Corduroy's long-lost twin sister who decided to hit the books rather than the nature trail, I really wanna see what's her story. Also, this has talking corgis. Talking. Corgis. Say what you will, but that's enough justification for me to love this one.

The other one's not so bad. It's kind of Gravity Falls with Mexican legends de los muertos thrown in and if that sounds like a spicy good idea (pun intended), more power to you, but I'm still leaning towards the Train headed for Infinity...

If Infinity Train is greenlighted I sure hope the Latin American dub will censor the Fart Car. God I hate fart jokes.

The story for Infinity Train is really intriguing and I do want it to be greenlit so we can find out more about it, but at the same time Victor&Valentino just does the dialogue and jokes a lot better than Infinity.

I love Infinity Train and I want more of it.

According to IMDB, Owen Dennis was a writer for Regular Show.

I'm not sure where to put this, but it's a pilot from the creator of Ed, Edd n Eddy.

Finally, after all this time, he's back.

I wonder if his style will be able to fit in on modern Cartoon Network, though.

Talk about your Spiritual Successors. It really feels like a slightly more surreal Ed, Edd, n Eddy, right down to the jazzy soundtrack. I like it!

I saw that on Youtube.

Pretty sure I heard Sara and Jimmy's voice actors in it too.

I don't think Antonucci's style will be a problem when we have shows like Uncle Grandpa and Gumball on the air.

[up]x2 Is Uncle Grandpa really still a thing? I never see it on CN's schedule.

Then again, said schedule has lied before.

I'm really liking Danny's style in this. The A Boy and His X plot seems overdone to death, but he somehow made it even more deformed and surreal! If I have one gripe about it is the animation looks like a big shift from the ol' Ed Edd n Eddy hand-drawn style.

@Darkton People use the argument, "It's okay to like cartoons, just don't be ashamed of it." People say this about video games and comic books, too. The problem with this line of thinking is that there is no cartoon equivalent of Watchmen or Spec Ops: The Line. There is no "mature" cartoon that allows animation to break free from its shackles. It's either for children, or for man-children as seen in many of these "adult" cartoons.

Funny you should bring that up. I've been planning on writing a book about this phenomenon (I've already succeeded in getting an op-ed article about it published in my college newspaper), so any pointers would be helpful.

But what about Bojack Horseman? I remember a trailer for its third season pretty much played up how it is a critically acclaimed drama more than the fact that it is a comedy.

I do think that show is the Spec Ops and Watchman for cartoons. It definitely breaks the shackles to how people view cartoons. It's that one mature Adult Animation that actually tackles themes most animation of its calibre wouldn't go. And for the most part it started a trend for adult animated comedy to be more serious about its content it creates (Rick & Morty and F is for Family comes to mind ).
