Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa (My Monster Secret)

Man, there was a lot of good stuff in this chapter. Feels, Shima being a major creeper, Karen again proving that she's a terrible demon, Akari giving a legitimately moving speech (and promptly shooting herself in the foot with her bad timing), not to mention her actually smiling without being horrifying.

Well, that was certain a thing. These last few chapters are just awesome. Of course Shima had to get shafted though. Really didn't see Karen, Genjirou, and Touko finally graduating, but now that I think about it it makes perfect sense.

That scene honestly made me tear up the first time. That's what's incredible about this series: you know Akane's just gonna troll everyone at the end, but the emotional moments feel no less sincere. And that last shot. <3

Shima is getting Shima'd until the end.

By the way... For all her kind words, Akane still still hasn't given back her halo to Karen.

That last chapter was awesome. I almost legit tearing up when Karen, Genjirou, and Touko graduates. Also love how all of their friends even came to attend, even Aizawa's dad.

Here it is. It was a damn fun ride indeed. My only regret is that we didn't see Asahi and Youko's kid. Hell, Youko doesn't even look pregnant in that second-to-last page…

And the final troll point goes to Genjirou.

Man, this whole thing has been one hell of a ride and I enjoyed every minute of it. Final chapter summed it up pretty well (heck, it game me flashbacks to my own high school graduation; it's kinda scary how well it captured the bittersweet elements of it). And it still managed to pack some laughs in there. I don't laugh out loud when I read very often, but Shima's harem got me. And it's really kind of appropriate that they'd start the whole thing over again at college.

Also, thanks for translating this. Your team did a great job, and this series is easily one of my favorite manga now.

Either Genjirou couldn't get Akane to change him back, or he's enjoying his new form a little too much.

Yeah, I think Akane's trolling is just a convenient excuse by now.

…You know, one thing I find great about Akane (and maybe also Touko), and that I only realize now: her character would have been exactly the same if she had been male. You don't see that many characters like that. It also applies to Genjirou I guess, since he's basically a male Youko − and his female form never seems jarring either.

was there a fanservicey shot w/ akane in the anime? That's a difference!

In general the series is pretty good about that. Akane in particular is the most obvious example though. The only thing with Genjirou is that all the Overprotective Dad jokes and The Reveal of the crossdressing wouldn't have worked as well.

The other think I like about Akane is that she starts off more or less existing just to screw with people, but ultimately turns out to be the Big Good of the series... while never losing her tendency to annoy people. It's pretty rare to be able balance those two aspects of a character simultaneously without making them annoying. In most cases either the trolling would taper off or else the character becomes too unsympathetic.

That's pretty much the perfect ending for the series. Happy endings for (mostly) everyone and all loose ends got tied up. My only complaint is that the underclassmen, especially Saki, are a bit underused, but it's a pretty minor one.

Also in the last two page they were talking about Eromine...is that implying they just had sex?

I'm pretty sure it is… Though it might just be blood sex. But if they don't do it "the conventional way" during the nine month, that means Youko would literally have a virgin birth.

I don't think a simple bloodsucking would cause them to panic for being late...

Given that in the Bad Future Youko ended up having a kid, it's pretty much canon that conception by bloodsucking is what happened. I feel like the reactions would've been different if they had ended up getting her pregnant in the conventional manner. Also it amuses me a bit too much because it makes the Bad Future even more of a kick in the balls for Asahi. He has to deal with all the difficulty and responsibility of being a single father and didn't even get the fun of getting laid first. I mean, now that they're two college students in a committed relationship living together they're obviously going to get busy at some point, but I'm not convinced that they have yet by the time the manga ends.

Are you talking about the last bonus 4koma comics? Because I'm pretty sure the joke there is Asahi realizing that they can totally do it, only for Genjirou to pre-emptively cockblock him by giving Youko a coffin to sleep in, thereby ruining the mood.

No, the last chapter. When they were late to the university, Youko was blaming "Eromine", suggesting they did something ero.

Oh, that, yeah, there's definitely an implication that they finally got around to knocking boots there. I'm pretty sure the baby came along before that point though;

The countdown has started.

From the synopsis, this sounds like a non-romantic comedy. Might be similar in vibe to Bakuman. We'll see. I'm both excited and scared shitless honestly. I don't want to set my expectations too high…

The premise for this sounds meta as heck, which could provide a ton of potential comedy. That said, I have no idea how he's going to top this one, which is solidly one of my all-time favorites now.

Let me know if you want to start a new thread for the new one or something. I'll probably check it out at least.

For those interested, the first chapter of Shuukan Shounen Hachi is out on… I don't know if I can say the name of the site, but anyway, it's out. The redraws aren't done but there will be a V2 later on.

Chapter 2 and 3 should come out soon as well. There are 4 chapters in Japan right now.

The series is less "hostess bar for glasses, time-travelling dragons and earth-shattering cake addiction" than Jitsu wa, but the general IQ of the cast is about what you would expect from Masuda. We're still in the character introduction phase, but so far my favorites would be Myaako and Alice (the Akane expy). Hachi is very much Asahi's successor, except he's slightly less of a straight man I would say.

And I really want to know more about that Youko/Nomiya girl and that panda head…

Also, I've noticed that the teachers in Masuda's works are always a bit unhinged for some reason.

Well, Jitsu Wa started out fairly low-key, and ended up having stuff like Akane travelling into the past to avoid going to the dentist, so I think there's plenty of room for escalation. I'll have to look up the first chapter.

Do we want to just discuss it here (and make it a sort of general Matsuda thread), or start a new one?

I don't mind starting a new one, personally… Dunno if there's gonna be a lot of participants though.

Read it, I like how the MC and rival are good friends. Yeah, I'm kind of tired of the cool, aloof, edgy rival tropes.

So, is the Akane expy the short girl with the vampire backpack?

Is chapter 2 out already? I could only find the first one. It looks pretty interesting so far, though it's largely just establishing the characters. If he handles Hachi's situation with the same depth he used in Jitsu Wa, this should turn out really well. The idea of trying your best and working as hard as you can, but still not accomplishing what you want to is a really relateable theme, and there's a lot you can do with that.

There are a lot of borrowed designs from Jitsu Wa. That one girl is basically Akane, and Mike is pretty much Nagisa but a man. Even Hachi looks kinda like Mikan with dark hair.
