I've also like to point out that Squirtle's Punny Name actually implies that it fights with water, so whether or not it's obvious that it's a Water type fighting a Fire type doesn't seem to matter to me.
What I'm not seeing in that image is Squirtle winning against the fire dragon. It strikes me as an example of Elemental Ignorance, not of this trope (because "scissors tries to beat rock and fails" is not this trope).
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!@23
Water is not strong vs fire in a lot of games actually. Take Final Fantasy X for example, water is not even related to fire. Ice is the only one related to it and they are both weak to each other. Heck most games do not even have a water element or even a Strong/weak system.
This is a game mechanic trope, IMO it needs something from an actual game like say a screen of Pokemon battle saying 'not very effective' and 'X has fainted'.

^^ That is backwards. The dragon/fire is the scissors, squirtle/water is the rock. Normally water beats fire in the Pokemon world, but probably not there.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Just use the fingers crushing the fist. That is literally the best image you can hope to find.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackI disagree. I don't think it's a very good image at all. It illustrates the name of the trope, but not the trope. Part of the job of a page image is to communicate meaning to people who don't know what the trope is; I don't think that helps.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. So caption it with "I have more strength in my two fingers than you do in your whole fist", which is what this trope is about.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackThe thing I am less than fond of in the Pokemon example is we do not see any water, making it less than obvious that Squirtle uses water in the first place. The caption helps, but I feel like the might be something better.
At the moment though it is my favorite one. I think using an example with elements makes it very clear what the trope is about, while the doubling up on the rock-paper-scissors metaphor is less clear.
By the way, here's the comic that the original image came from. I think an image of only the three rightmost panels might work.

The "fingers crushing the fist" doesn't even look like that; it looks like the fingers are being stretched too far in the wrong direction.
I also support the Pokemon image (then again I'm totally biased) but we may need a better illustration like showing the Fire actually scorching the Water like someone else said before.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Other than Squirtle's name?
Yes. To people not familiar with pokemon, that name is meaningless.
That would work, although I prefer the hand image.
Crowner time, I think.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Squirt...
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I think that the pokemon one is better then nothing, but I agree a better picture is likely possible. I have no suggestions at the moment, however.
I think we're overestimating the likelihood of people being unfamiliar with Pokémon. It's a cultural phenomenon, and those particular Pokémon have been around well over a decade.
While Pokemon might be famous but how many can name or type all of them?... Less than you might think.
Anyway I still say we need a 'not very effective' 'target has fainted' pic.

Arguments about how well-known something is tend not to work.
I know very little about Pokemon, and think that's an okay picture. Not great, but okay, and the best suggestion so far. It is missing some information, but that can be made up for by the caption.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Honestly as a Fire Emblem fan I may be a bit biased towards the fire emblem one, but that Squirtle vs. Charizard image is awesome. How about this for the caption though?
"You squirt as if to douse a candle, but you only stoke the fires of hell!"
P.S: I originally created this trope, but I forgot about it and somebody else launched it instead of me, fun fact.

I like that, but we should not make an All Blue Entry.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. On top of that, I think there should be a link to something other than the Fire Emblem series with a quote that badass. I don't just mean the Making a Splash link either.
Would we also need to add in a note at the end of the caption saying where the picture is from, as I've seen elsewhere, or would we have the picture itself link to its source?
Nah, sources are potholed in images.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo that means, for that caption I suggested, it'd have to:
1: Have Fire Emblem Awakening potholed in somewhere, as it's a slightly modified quote from Walhart from that game, 2: Have a pothole for pokemon, 3: Not be an All Blue Entry.
Any suggestions?
